Is it a bad idea for someone to age a child character to ship them with adult characters?
I don't think it should be a problem. Other fandoms do this as well, like Zackray and KakaSaku, so long as the age gap isn't too crazy it should be fine.
@Androbirb I just wish most of the game, movie, comics or other media creators would tell us about the characters' age without telling us to use our imagination and this is why numbers is more important than height or appearance. I prefer male x older female but I'm always aware of the age gap
I personally would say doing so is a little uncomfortable and again I personally wouldn't really recommend doing it.
If the ship would normally be considered illegal, then it's likely a bad idea to age it up just to make it appropriate -- at least in my opinion it might be better to view their relationship differently, and perhaps not-romantically(?)
It does depend on how large the age gap is, too. If it's especially large / the younger in character in question is a young child, then maybe it's better not to.
Then again, that's just my stance and doesn't have to apply to everyone/anyone else.
That's a good question
Normally I try to avoid shipping characters with a large age gap (I think the largest age gap I ever shipped for a pairing was 5 years). Say if character A was 16 and Character B was 20, I would just create a scenario where 2 years have passed for character A to be shipped with B.
That probably sounds like a cheap way to bring the characters together but I thought it would be good compromise for those who'd be for or against the idea.
Though I'd NEVER exceed the age gap to over 10 years (especially if one of those characters in question was a child being shipped with an teenager/adult).
I guess to put it in short, It would depend on the pairing and age gap. If the age gap isn't TOO large then bumping the character's age is ok. But is the age gap IS too large, then I wouldn't agree with aging up the child just to fit the shipper's ideal.
But then again, fanart/fanfiction exists and I'm not entirely against shippers creating AU's to fit their ideals.
What do you think?
