Yang Cheng is saved by E-Soul at a young age after unknown killers murder his parents. He spends most of his life up until university with zero trust value which causes him to feel extremely self-conscious and have low self esteem. He goes to the same university as Shang Chao and Xia Qing. In the present, he works as a delivery man for Uncle Rock and also as an E-Soul performer for children.
Shang Chao comes from a successful background as his father formerly works for the upper management of Might Glory, one of the top hero agencies, and is currently the CEO of TREEMAN.

Yang Cheng tries to ask Xia Qing, his long time crush, out with two Lucky Cyan concert tickets. Unfortunately, Yang Cheng is interrupted by Shang Chao who has his career forms. Yang Cheng hastily leaves, using his job as an excuse.
Yang Cheng performs at the MG Children's Parade, fighting a Magic Shadow, E-Soul's nemesis, actor. Pomelo, Xia Qing's little brother, calls him out on his boring performance.

Yang Cheng is reunited with Pomelo and Xia Qing in the waiting room. Shang Chao joins them with a drink for everyone, revealing that Yang Cheng had gone viral due to the footage caught of him saving Pomelo. He wanted to help Yang Cheng grow his popularity as a hero.

Yang Cheng and Xia Qing attend Shang Chao's funeral as Shang De, Shang Chao's father, reading a speech. After the funeral, Yang Cheng apologizes to Shang De who tells him to avenge his son rather than ask for forgiveness. Yang Cheng confesses to Xia Qing he knew Shang Chao's murderer was Da Hu, one of Pomelo's kidnappers.
At the warehouse, Yang Cheng reveals to Xia Qing why he doesn't ask the Heroes Affair Commissions for help is that he cannot trust anyone anymore.

3Soul is the most popular poly ship in the fandom. 3Soul is often depicted in fandom works as a one-sided rivalry as Yang Cheng thinks Shang Chao wants to court Xia Qing while the latter being interested in both of them. Yang Cheng, having extremely low self-esteem, is often uplifted by Xia Qing and Shang Chao by reminding him that they'll always be by his side.

- Shang De, Shang Chao's father, founded the TREEMAN Corporation two years before his son's murder. He starts managing a hero called Nice.
- Fans have noted that Nice looks strikingly similar to his son in terms of hairstyle and it's implied Shang De started grooming Nice to avenge his son's death.
- Moon, Nice's former "girlfriend" and also a former hero managed by the TREEMAN Corporation, is murdered by Yang Cheng on the beach several years later for unrevealed reasons.
