4x2 is the poly ship between Four, X, and Two from the Battle for Dream Island fandom.
Canon[]
Battle for BFDI[]
As Four becomes upset with Two convincing his contestants to switch to their own show, X offers Four a juice box to help him feel better. Four thinks that X will just switch to Two's show as well and as X tries to explain his thoughts, Four tells him to just go. X is unsure what to do and slowly backs away from him, switching over to Two's side.
Battle for BFB[]
Four becomes sad without X to co-host with him. As the contestants realize this, Firey points out to Four that X is over by Two playing patty-cake with them. Four becomes excited that the contestants may be able to bring X back from Two and makes that the next challenge for them to do.
The Power of Two[]
Two finds the contestants gathered outside of the hotel wanting to know who the chefs making the food inside are. After the doors open to reveal Four and X, Two explains that they started using their talents to cook meals for the hotel guests after their season ended. Two figures they can get a bite as well and tries to sneak inside, angering Four and causing X to bite their arm. When Four insists that the food is for the hotel guests only, Two thinks of another way to get inside and starts Cake at Stake in the meantime. They explain to Snowball, who has a strong want to get Four and X's meals, that the safe contestants will get a folder containing a plan to sneak in the kitchen. Two gives the safe contestants these files which include various plans: riding into Four, being launched into X, fighting Four, and scaring X. After Cake at Stake, Two whispers to Snowball that they will distract Four and X so he can sneak into the kitchen. Two approaches Four and X and pretends that their watch is going off, announcing to the two that it is playtime. Four and X levitate in the air as part of playtime, although Four quickly realizes that Two sent Snowball inside the hotel. As a result, Four locks up the kitchen and calls out Snowball and Two for trying to take food from them. Because Two is disappointed on not being able to enjoy a meal from Four and X, they make it the challenge to make them dinner. In the challenge, Snowball successfully steals a bag of food from Four and X and presents it to Two during results. Two takes the bag and eats everything in it, including the bag itself, and expresses enjoyment for finally getting a taste for the food, giving Snowball's team a high score.
After Clock's elimination, instead of sending him away with the rest of the eliminated contestants, Two sends him to Four and X's kitchen instead. Two explains to Clock that he's allowing him to work with Four and X while he tries to resolve his conflict with Winner. Seeing Clock happy with the opportunity, Two leaves him be with Four and X and the two immediately assign him to washing the dishes.
A few challenges later when Clock resolves his issue with Winner and is set to leave, Two sends him away. Four and X immediately become outraged because Two took away their friend Clock from them. Because of this, Four blasts away Two's contestants and X starts shattering the hotel's windows.
Fanon[]
The ship is one of the most popular poly ships for Battle for Dream Island. As early as Two's debut in the show, the ship emerged mainly to solve the shipping rivalry between 4x and 2x. Many shippers of either side were unsure as fans at the time thought that Two first appeared just to take away one from the other in the show. As all three eventually started warming up towards each other in the fifth season, The Power of Two, Two's ships with both began to be seen in a more positive light. Since the three are the main hosts of the later seasons, putting all three together both in general and as a ship grew more commonly in both art and fan fictions of the show. The art mainly focuses on what affection they would have and fanfics tend to focus on their relationships, particularly with Four and Two, being repaired overtime.
On AO3, as of November 1, 2024, the ship has 13 works under its romantic tag and 2 under its platonic tag. It is the third most written ship for Four and X and the fourth most for Two on the site, with their individual ships in the poly the only ones being ahead for Four and X. It is also the second most written poly ship for the show behind Penraserblock.
