59 is the non-binary ship between Five and Nine from the Battle for Dream Island fandom.
Canon[]
When Nine arrives on their skateboard and greets the other numbers, Five sighs and calls them annoying.
As Nine groans from being in the sub count for months, Five yells at Nine to be quiet. Five tells Eight that Nine's being a baby while Nine complains that they've been standing there forever. When Eight asks if it's a big deal, Five stresses that it's important they fulfill their time standing in the sub count. Moments later when Nine asks Six for a favor, Five catches them trying to get Six to take their place and yells for Six not to listen to them. Nine complains that there's no point to standing in the sub count anyways. The two later become contestants of Four's competition deciding who gets to retrieve Ten. In the mini-series' opening sequence, Nine lands on Five on a swingset after falling from the sky. The two, along with Seven, reach the final three of the competition. Four tells Nine and Seven that they get to move on to the finale for not being purple nor a five, leading to Five's elimination.
With Nine and Six fused as Fifteen, the two approach the other numbers and Five, along with Seven and Ten, become overjoyed upon Fifteen's arrival. Later after Nine and Six split apart, Five tells them that it's their duty to stay in the subcount as Fifteen and they get into a disagreement over who should pose as Fifteen.
Five and Nine play Jenga with Six, Eight, and Ten. During the game, Five notices Nine wearing a paper bag and asks them to take it off. Nine angrily refuses to do so. Later after Five concludes that Fourteen split himself into two Sevens, Nine and Six take the two Sevens away when Five says to do so. The next day, Five calls Nine, Six, and Eight over to discuss the scream they heard last night. Nine and Six believe that Five is referring to themself before they yell that it wasn't them and clarifies that Ten screamed last night. As they gasp, Nine calls out for Ten and Five shows the photo of Ten's skin being eaten by a criminal. Nine begins crying from the news and ends up tearing their paper bag apart. Five is shocked to see bruises on Nine's face as they explain that Fifteen had beaten them up for sneaking back to her cabin.
In a stand-alone short outside of the subscriber specials, Five tells Nine that they can crack an egg perfectly if they drop it into a pan. Nine tries this by setting up a pan onto an oven and launching the egg while backflipping. They miss, however, and cause the egg to crack.
Fanon[]
59 is a rarepair within algebralian ships of the fandom. The ship has gained a small following on Twitter where their scenes in the shorts are often analyzed. A common theme within posts is how despite Five finding Nine annoying, they often talk about them more than usual and hang out with them a lot. Similar to other Five ships, the pairing has a love-hate dynamic based off their frenemyship where Five has shown to care for Nine in later scenes despite other conflicts. Nine's more popular ships 96 and 79 mainly overshadow the pairing while it is around the same level for Five's other ships, such as 56 and 57.
