Canon[]
Representatives from the U.S. Embassy, Carrie Matthison included, meet with a delegation of Pakistani intelligence officials. It is uneventful, and the Pakistani officers leave. Before Khan gets into the car, Carrie apprehends him and asks him about Saul, her disappeared colleague. Khan seems to be taken aback by her fast manner of speech and asks her if she is feeling alright. Khan says he is not involved, and Carrie wants him to prove it by showing the RCP footage. He says he is willing to prove her wrong right now and invites her to Benazir Bhutto International Airport – to watch the videotapes together. She takes him on the invitation. They find no information of value, and Carrie accuses him of concealing the truth.
Later, hallucinating Carrie goes to the hospital to question Kiran. Carrie starts getting more and more aggressive, she attacks a guard and runs into the streets. She shoots two men who approach her before turning her gun on the police, but then realizes she's not even holding a gun. The police apprehend her and deliver her to a house where she is greeted by Nicholas Brody. Carrie is shocked, but eventually believes her eyes as she embraces and kisses him. After an emotional reunion, it is revealed that it's been another hallucination, and Carrie is actually crying in the arms Khan. He holds her gently and asks who Brody, whose name she keeps repeating, is.
At first it is uncertain whether Khan is taking part in Tasneem’s plan to discredit Carrie, but when she comes to senses, he is as uncertain as her about what has taken place the night before. Carrie is still not feeling well and he insists she should get some rest and promises her that she is completely safe at his residence. Later, as they part their ways, Khan calls Carrie and they set a secret meeting. Khan wants Carrie to trust him and begs her to believe he hasn’t tampered with her medicine. Carrie criticizes him for not providing more information. Saddened, he is about to leave, but says that she believes in his innocence. Khan relents and tells her the identity of the person within the embassy who is working against her.
Before the prisoner exchange takes place, Carrie and Khan discreetly talk over the phone (while being only meter away from each other in the same room), and Carrie shares her fears about what might happen. She suspects something foul might be at play. Later, after the exchange, Carrie and Saul’s cortege is struck by RPG. Carrie calls Khan, asking him to send the Pakistani military. However, Tasneem reveals that the ISI is helping the Taliban, to Khan's disapproval. Tasneem asks Khan to delay the soldiers by 10 minutes, and he reluctantly gives in.
A mob of protesters collects in front of Haqqani's hideout in Islamabad. As Haqqani greets his supporters, Carrie takes out a gun walks behind the procession, with the aim of killing Haqqani. Khan, having arrived with the supporting troops, spots her from the distance. Before she can shoot Haqqani, Khan restrains her and points out that Dar Adal, Carrie's colleague is in the car with Haqqani.
