The two initially meet at Nemona's house in Cabo Poco while Juliana is walking with the three starter Pokémon of the game before she is to make her choice of which to pick. Juliana and her mother have recently moved to Cabo Poco, with Nemona introducing herself as Juliana's neighbor and asking if she wishes to be friends. Nemona loves battling, immediately saying her and Juliana should battle before Juliana has even had a chance to choose her Pokémon. Nemona is a champion-ranked trainer, however she requests that Director Clavell allows her to choose one of the starter Pokémon to raise alongside Juliana, so they can compete on an equal ground as rivals. Nemona is prone to getting overly-excited about the idea of battling, having to be reminded that she should use her new partner to battle the new trainer that Juliana is rather than one of her usual partners. Nemona takes on the role of both a rival and a guide for the protagonist, teaching them the ropes of things like battling and catching Pokémon, as well as escorting them to school.
Juliana and Nemona next battle outside the gates of Mesagoza, with Nemona wanting to see how much Juliana has learned just in that short time from battling with other trainers and wild as she made her way towards the academy. When Juliana wins against Nemona's terastallized Pokémon, she realizes that the protagonist can't terastallize their Pokémon yet, noting that they're so good at battling that she keeps forgetting how new they are to it. Nemona leaves the protagonist to look around Mesagoza themselves before they head to school, so that she can prepare things to ensure they can terastallize their Pokémon as well. Nemona consistently makes sure to help out Juliana and make additions to her own team to ensure that they will be equals in battle, with Juliana being the first person Nemona has really been able to share her love for battling with.
Throughout the events of Scarlet and Violet, Nemona can be frequently met and battled by the player at most gyms as she makes her way around Paldea.
After Juliana becomes a champion-ranked trainer, Nemona immediately challenges her to another battle. This time, she promises that she won't hold back. After the location for the battle is decided as Mesagoza, where the treasure hunt begins, Nemona declares to Juliana that the treasure she got was Juliana, a true rival. Even as Juliana wins their decisive final battle, Nemona is excited, immediately wanting to go for another battle.

AcademyAceShipping is a fairly prevalent ship in the fandom, due to the characters' close friendship. They also fall into the common trope of Protagonist x Rival, which a lot of the most popular ships from the Pokémon franchise tend to be. Its most prevalent rivals are HerbaMysticaShipping(Arven×Juliana) and DipplinShipping (Kieran×Juliana) on Juliana's side, and ChampionRankShipping(Florian×Nemona) on Nemona's side.
ChampionRankShipping is a fairly common rival due to Juliana and Florian's shared role of protagonist, leading some people who opted to play as the male protagonist to prefer it.
There are currently over 100 works on AO3 for this ship. It it Juliana's third most popular ship, and Nemona's second most popular.
