Ace Attorney is a video game series with anime, manga, and stage play adaptations.
Plot
Ace Attorney follows the story of a young, fledgling defense attorney, Phoenix Wright, who finds himself taking on a number of confusingly odd cases. The first three games follow Phoenix tackling them alongside his mentor Mia Fey's younger relatives, Maya and Pearl Fey, after she was murdered.
Meanwhile, on the prosecution, Miles Edgeworth, Phoenix's former childhood friend, stands to challenge him head-on in court - often accompanied by homicide detective Dick Gumshoe. Despite his fierceness, however, Miles is often willing to help Phoenix during trials and investigations, and vice versa. As the series progresses, their rivalry slowly shifts into a close friendship once again. The games also feature other prosecutors, with Justice For All introducing Franziska Von Karma, the daughter of Miles' mentor and caretaker Manfred Von Karma, and Trials and Tribulations featuring Diego Armando/Godot, Mia's former coworker and boyfriend.
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney takes place after a timeskip of seven years, with Miles having left to work in Europe and Phoenix having since been disbarred and lost his attorney's badge. Consequently, the game features a new protagonist: another attorney by the name of Apollo Justice, who greatly admired Phoenix when he was young. Similarly to Phoenix in the first game, Apollo quickly loses his mentor, Kristoph Gavin, after he is arrested for murder. From then on, Apollo finds himself working on cases alongside Phoenix's adopted daughter Trucy Wright, while trying to unravel the mystery of the events that transpired seven years ago. He is also accompanied by new prosecutor Klavier Gavin and detective Ema Skye, another one of Phoenix's former assistants.
Dual Destinies has Phoenix restored as defense attorney and Miles returned to the country, now instated as the Chief Prosecutor. The game introduces Phoenix's new apprentice defense attorney, Athena Cykes, as a third protagonist, as well as her childhood friend, Simon Blackquill, who serves as the game's rival prosecutor. The darkened past of the two servers as the game's main plot point.
Spirit of Justice, the most recent main series game, takes the characters to the foreign country of Kura'in, expands on Apollo's past, and features the reappearance of Maya and Pearl Fey.
