Tokyo Mew Mew (2002)[]
Seiji and Mint are brother and sister, born to unknown wealthy parents. Seiji is older than Mint but it is unknown how much older Seiji is than Mint. Mint was a ballerina, having started dance lessons when she was younger, and Seiji would often come to her dance recitals and cheer for her. Mint and Seiji were very close and Mint enjoyed having Seiji around to watch her dance recitals. However, as Seiji grew older, he became more busy with his studies at his private school and began to have less time to devote to Mint. This caused the two to drift apart and their relationship to become more formal.
Mint later invited Ichigo to her house so that she could borrow one of her many dresses and he met Seiji. While looking at the dresses, Ichigo saw a photo of Seiji watching Mint while clapping and learned that they used to be close. Ichigo was sad that the two had grown apart and decided that she and the other mews should invite Seiji to Mint's ballet recital. After spying on Seiji, the mew mews learned that he really did want to go see Mint's recital. When they brought him to the venue before the performance, Mint kept her distance from him but a chimera animal attacked. Seiji protected Mint until the mew mews defeated it. Afterwards, Mint told Seiji that he still did not need to be there, but Seiji gave Mint a bouquet of flowers and told her that she was still important to him.
Tokyo Mew Mew New[]
As with the original series, Seiji and Mint were born to unnamed wealthy parents. Unlike before, Seiji never grew cold and distant. Ichigo, Lettuce, and Pudding later came to their mansion to spend time with Mint and cheer her up after her idol Zakuro rejected them and refused to join the team. Seiji arrived to turn off the sprinklers after Pudding had set them off and asked Mint if they were her friends. Mint responded that they were not and that they were just leaving, but Seiji said that they needed to let them dry off and invited them in anyway. Seiji later formally introduced himself to Mint's friends and thanked them for watching over his sister.
Seiji later approached Mint the night after she participated in a business proposal contest. Although Mint did not win the contest, Seiji told her that one of the judges was friends with their father and was impressed with their work. Seiji told Mint that she was offered admission to a prestigious school for future business leaders in the United States. However, Mint was hesitant about the offer because she was mew mew and needed to stay in Tokyo to fight the aliens but noted that she would have jumped on the opportunity otherwise. Seiji would later pressure Mint to make her decision soon and noted that she had changed and that she should decide carefully as this choice may impact the rest of her life. Mint ultimately decided not to study abroad in America.
Mint later showed up to Ichigo's house and announced that she had run away from home. Mint stated that she got fed up with her brother after arguing over her future as an entrepreneur and stormed out of their mansion. Mint stated that she was tired of Seiji treating her like a child and used her laptop to design a device that could harness wind energy and power homes. After breaking into her family's workplace, Mint designed a prototype of the device but was disappointed that it only generation 1/5 of the energy she expected, and it was soon destroyed after the aliens attacked and turned it against them. Seiji showed up after and told Mint that he was happy she was doing what she wanted to do.
Seiji later allowed Mint to help him with his company's ocean cleaning project, where he had created giant machines that could clean the pollution from Tokyo Bay. The aliens later attacked the machines and reversed them to instead increase the pollution. Mint turned into a mew mew to help fight them off while Lettuce found some mew aqua to purify the water. Mint then realized that the aliens were targeting environmental projects and began to worry about her brother's safety.
Seiji later started an atmospheric purification project, and Mint asked him to stop because she was worried that the aliens would target him, but he refused. The aliens later hijacked the machine and caused to pollute Tokyo and slowly make the air unbreathable, and Mint tried to leave the mansion to aid the other mew mews but was blocked from leaving by the servants who informed her that Seiji ordered her to be sealed inside the mansion for her safety. Mint later barged into Seiji's office and demanded to participate in the conference about stopping the machine, but he would not listen. Mint then unplugged the computer and transformed into her mew form in front him, revealing her secret. Seiji then began to trust in Mint's ability to stop the machine and told her its location.
Fanon[]
The Aizawa Siblings are a popular family ship in the Tokyo Mew Mew fandom though there are few works involving the sibling duo. It was initially overlooked due to Seiji having not appeared in the manga and being an anime-exclusive with little appearances. However, the reboot Tokyo Mew Mew New also included Seiji despite him not being the manga and gave him an expanded role compared to the original series. The fans enjoyed Seiji's new role in the new series as it gave him more depth and contributed to Mint's character development.
