Butterfly Soup[]

Every day, before their first period bell Akarsha plays a prank on Noelle. Their first on screen encounter includes Akarsha dropping a trashcan over Noelle, remarking that Noelle was her "favorite Frenchman," to which Noelle requests that Akarsha stops calllng her "Frenchman," Akarsha's nickname for her due to her name being of French origin. Akarsha notices Noelle's voice sounds "weaker" than usual leading Noelle to explain how she is ill and losing her voice. Akarsha asks to punch Noelle to "displace her mucus" and sings to trust her. Noelle yells that Akarsha is "the last person she would trust" and that she "feels nauseated" looking at Akarsha, while struggling not to break character by laughing. While Noelle acts as if she annoyed with Akarsha, she enjoys their banter; Brianna Lei comments that she worries that people "forget that in the first classroom scene it says Noelle is holding back laughter."[1]

At lunch Noelle remarks that she likes "being alive at the same time as [Akarsha]" after Akarsha comments on stabbing herself. Akarsha replies that it was "the sweetest thing [Noelle] had ever said to [her]" to which Noelle smiles and rebukes her statement. When Akarsha directs one of her hypothetical questions to Diya alone, Noelle is noted to look left out by the conversation and asks why she wasn't asked.

Before the last period of the day, Noelle's condition worsens ,and she comments that it was very hot. Akarsha begins to reply that it was because of her before being cut by Noelle. When Noelle collapses, Akarsha stops her jokes and tells Noelle that they will take her to the nurses office. Noelle strongly protests because if she misses her Gym class, she would ruin her GPA and valedictorian status. Akarsha determines that if no one can attend class then Noelle could not be blamed for missing class. When prodded on what she was going to do, she asks Noelle and Diya to promise not to get mad. If the player, acting as Diya, does not promise, she leaves without explanation; if the player does promise, Noelle protests and refuses to promise and Akarsha still leaves without explanation. Noelle comments how everything has to be some kind of weird mind game with Akarsha. If the player chooses to ask Noelle Akarsha's hypothetical question from the walk to school, Noelle recognizes it as something Akarsha would say, asking if it was "some dumb Akarsha question.

After a few more prompts, Noelle attempts to sit up, claiming to have a great idea. She suggests that for Valentine's Day, they send Akarsha a bouquet of flowers through the school's fundraiser, with message "From your secret admirer," so they could "confuse" her and "tease her relentlessly." Her and Diya scheme more which leads Noelle to be in a good mood. She adds that they could make the message a cipher, but Diya tells her that Akarsha would recognize the flowers to be from her, crediting the plan to Noelle. When Diya backs out because the prank would be to costly, Noelle is "immensely disappointed" and tells Diya to "forget it."

Suddenly, the fire alarm goes off, hacked to play the tune of the Super Mario Bros. theme, forcing the students to evacuate to the field. Upon seeing Akarsha, Noelle berates her and tells her that she would report her. Akarsha tells her she won't to which Noelle responds that Akarsha think she won't because they are "fellow acquaintances," too stubborn to let up her act and call them friends. When teased about it, Noelle tells Akarsha that she hates her "more than physically possible" and refuses to thank Akarsha for her illicit help. Akarsha tells Noelle that she thinks she's funny when she's mad and pretends to reach her hand out for a handshake. She instead grabs Noelle's hand and starts hitting her with her own hand. Noelle tells Akarsha that this was her "last warning" to which Diya think that Noelle had said the last time and the time before that, showing that Noelle tolerates Akarsha's games.

The next day Noelle smacks Akarsha really hard for no apparent reason upon seeing her.

Butterfly Soup 2[]

Akarsha is one of the people (the other being Min) who made the birthday cake for Noelle. After Akarsha messes up with the icing, she goes to stall Noelle. Noelle asks if the house they're in is Akarsha's, asking why she's here. If the player chooses to propose to her, Akarsha will get down on one knee, as Noelle looks warily at her. Akarsha, smiling, asks if she'll marry her. Noelle asks what's wrong with her, and Akarsha forces a rubber band onto her finger. Noelle, however, begins yelling, saying that they aren't engaged and how she didn't agree to marry Akarsha. After Noelle calls her a dolt, Akarsha asks if that's a good way to address your future wife. If the player chooses to fake her death, Akarsha will start saying she's poisoned. She collapses on the floor as Diya and Noelle stand on her motionless body.

Out of nowhere, Min comes in shouting the words, “surprise”, as Akarsha tells Noelle happy birthday, addressing her as Frenchman. As they head to the kitchen for the cake, after seeing how Min messed up, Akarsha says that it's all Noelle's fault for being born. After they're done eating, the girls head to the living room to play Mario Golf. After Akarsha says all of them should take turns playing against Noelle, she comments on how that would be like everyone's ganging up on her. However, Akarsha denies her point, saying she's getting the most fun as she once again calls her Frenchman. Some point into the game, Akarsha says she can't wait to see Noelle's face when they play Monopoly, however, Noelle asks why they're playing Monopoly.

Once it's Akarsha's turn, she “accidentally” skips the animation showing the hole's location. Noelle begins yelling at her, calling her a worthless scammer and such. As Noelle slaps Akarsha, Akarsha yells for help as she believes she's being murdered. Once they begin playing Monopoly, Akarsha asks if Noelle wants to be in cahoots with her. However, Noelle declines the offer as Akarsha tells her not to blame her when Noelle lands on her Killer Boardwalk. Later, after Noelle asks how much her rent is, Akarsha tells her it's $1700, as Noelle surprisingly begins laughing.

Once Akarsha's parents arrive, Noelle insists on helping Akarsha and them with the groceries. While they're in the garage, Noelle learns a lot about Akarsha's family. Noelle begins comparing Akarsha to her dad, however, Akarsha denies their similarities. Akarsha, in her mind, comments on how Noelle knows so much stuff about her. While Akarsha's thinking, her heart skips a beat as Noelle plucks something from Akarsha's jacket's fabric. A couple days later, In the Library, Akarsha daydreams about Noelle while using the library's computer. She thinks about how they're probably more close then a real couple, starting to wonder if Noelle likes her. Min walks into the library, and soon enough, Akarsha asks her for advice on her crush. Once the bell rings, Akarsha in her mind, thinks to herself if Noelle even likes girls, finally deciding she'll just seduce Noelle so she can confess to her first. During 1st period, once Noelle and Diya walk into the classroom, Akarsha in her mind once again, says she loves Noelle, especially with how she doesn't realize she loses the audience very quickly.

As the announcements play, Akarsha glances at Noelle, thinking that she would be able to get a rose from Noelle if she acts pitifully down. Akarsha sighs heavily, talking about how sad she feels when she has no one to celebrate holidays with. After Akarsha is done venting, Noelle tells her flowers have no practical purpose, believing they're a waste of money. After class, Akarsha realizes she got the same answer as Noelle, saying that she must’ve got the correct answer then. After Akarsha admits she's only ever gotten five out of six questions right, Noelle tells her five is perfectly respectable.

At Lunch, Akarsha notices Noelle struggling to open her water bottle. She realizes that she has a chance to impress Noelle and takes the bottle away from her. However, as she tries to open it, she realizes how hard it is. Noelle takes the bottle back, feeling disgusted by Akarsha. However, Akarsha doesn't worry too much, as she has another trick to make Noelle like her. During fifth period, Akarsha annoys Noelle at her desk. After getting permission to tell her something, Akarsha talks about how her online friend asked her to be his girlfriend. She talks about how that always happens, however, Noelle tells her to forgot she even asked. As the room starts shaking, they realize there's an earthquake. Akarsha goes under Noelle's desk as Noelle has no idea what she can hide under. Akarsha prompts Noelle to dive under the desk with her, which Noelle reluctantly does. Noelles hand grazes Akarsha's as she holds herself almost on top of her. They don't say much, but Akarsha has an internal monologue about how romantic it feels. When it stops, Noelle yells at Akarsha for putting her life in danger while Akarsha convinces herself it's a sign from the universe that they're meant to be.

Later that day, Akarsha attempted to confess to Noelle through IM chat after finally mustering up the courage to do so. Noelle asks if she's joking, and in a frantic attempt to backtrack Akarsha claims that it was her brother typing for her as a prank and that he was only joking. She told Noelle to ignore it, and the next day Akarsha does realize that Noelle forgot (or just doesn't care.)

Akarsha overhears Noelle convincing the others on the Baseball team to pay for Akarsha's 'prank' bouquet, but Akarsha doesn't know the actual subject of the conversation. The bouquets cost 20 dollars and each team member was supposed to pitch in. With 8 team members (excluding Akarsha) paying 1.50 each, that leaves one unlucky member paying the remainder 8 dollars. Although it's not explained in the game, it's very likely Noelle was the one paying the difference.

On Valentine's Day, Akarsha receives her 'prank' bouquet from Noelle, attempting to scope out who could have written it. The poem on the bouquet seems eerily accurate to Noelle's actual feelings towards Akarsha, but it's intended as a prank and we don't even know if Noelle is the one who wrote the note. It read 'Roses are red, Violets are blue, Love never crossed my mind until the day I met you.' Noelle teases Akarsha over her desperate attempts to find out who wrote it.

It's revealed in a conversation that Noelle has with Diya that Noelle has an ongoing prank on Akarsha where she replaces her broken rosin with a new one. It's intended to come off as a 'magic' rosin, but it's really just a nice gesture disguised as a prank.

Near the end of the game, Noelle begins to frequently notice strange yet affectionate thoughts that she has about Akarsha. When Akarsha grins at a joke Noelle made, Noelle feels a prickle in her palm and chalks it up to being 'extreme anger,' regardless of how she knows she is only pretending to be annoyed.

During a baseball game of theirs, Akarsha hit her head and was presumably unconscious. Noelle rushed over to make sure she was okay, and after the assumption that she wasn't she cried over the thought of Akarsha dying. She said (out loud) 'The world would be an awful place without you.' When Akarsha woke up, Noelle hugged her but then pushed her back to the ground and called her an arse for getting hurt. Akarsha admits she was conscious the whole time, and when Noelle questions if she heard what she said Akarsha denied it. Akarsha later notices a tear on her cheek and when asked, Noelle says someone probably spit on her.

The next week in class, Noelle continues to notice her feelings for Akarsha and attempts to push them down. She says the strange urges she's feeling are all due to hatred and anger towards Akarsha. Eventually, when they become unbearably frequent, Noelle questions Diya if it's common to 'potentially love someone.' She claims she's not in love with this person, but she could be if she allowed it. Diya counters that those are regular feelings of love, but Noelle continues to deny it and claim that she has a choice. Noelle knows that pursuing a relationship with Akarsha would ruin her life's plans — which are essentially to marry an equally successful man and have two children in the suburbs before she turns 30. These aren't the plans she wants, but the one's she knows her parents would be okay with. Otherwise, they would pester her about her failure and never accept what she has. Diya once again counters that Noelle's parents will never be happy with her no matter what, and that Noelle's choice in a life with someone she wants or a life with what her parents want will not change the way that they treat her. Ultimately, Noelle slips up that the person she's potentially in love with is a 'silly little clown' and despite Diya's confusion she's somewhat sure that Noelle is talking about Akarsha.

At their school's Multicultural Week assembly, Diya and Min successfully attempt to force Akarsha and Noelle to sit next to each other. Akarsha and Noelle talk throughout the assembly. Akarsha noticed Diya and Min's PDA, commenting on her wishing that something like that 'were more her style,' and Noelle replies that it isn't exactly hers either. This prompts Akarsha to ask whether Noelle remembers the strange things that her brother sent her all those months ago. Noelle recalls the situation, but she doesn't tell Akarsha that she doesn't remember what was said. Akarsha reveals she was lying, that it was her words. Noelle doesn't give a proper response, saying in her head that she feels as if a joke flew over her head because she doesn't recall what Akarsha apparently said. Brianna Lei says it wasn't truly memorable to her because it seemed like another Akarsha antic that was easily forgettable, and that her lack of (recognizable) feelings for Akarsha at the time didn't help her memory.

During a senior Banghra dance, despite their grade Akarsha prompts Noelle to dance with her. Diya and Min join in too. In their (failed) attempts at replicating the dance, Diya and Min try to push Akarsha and Noelle into each other and Noelle says it almost felt deliberate. Akarsha holds hands with Noelle as they dance, and Noelle feels 'a crack in something foundational within her.' Noelle whispers under her breath that she has feelings for Akarsha, quiet enough so nobody could hear. Akarsha asks what she said and Noelle replies that she might tell her later. Akarsha twirls her and Noelle doesn't bother hiding the grin on her face.

In the timeskip at the end of the game, we see Noelle and Akarsha sometime in their (late?) 20s. Akarsha is half-naked and stuck in a pair of handcuffs that Noelle lost the key to. Noelle suggests that with the hour being so late, their only option is to go to the fire station for help. Akarsha laughs at the ridiculousness of their problem, and jokes that it never happened when she used handcuffs on Noelle, who replies that Akarsha was just lucky. Akarsha jokes about Noelle's grey hair and how she was basically begging to be made fun of, and Noelle complained that she's intolerable.

Noelle, prompted by Akarsha's annoying jokes, pulled her in for a kiss. Afterwards, Akarsha said that she (despite it being impossible) loves Noelle 'times infinity' and Noelle counters that she loves Akarsha times infinity, plus one.

Noelle tells Akarsha to get in the car, and Akarsha's laughing too hard to bring herself to do it. Noelle begins counting down how much she loves Akarsha from infinity plus one (minus one... minus two...) and Akarsha calls her mean as the game ends.
