- Akira, we stay together, even if it's in hell.
- — Satoru to Akira, before sacrificing themselves while in the custody of Chuohku
AkiSato is the slash ship between Akira Kasago and Satoru Wakasagi from the Hypnosis Mic fandom.
Canon[]
Akira & Satoru[]
Akira and Satoru were co-workers at Beginning Gate, a company located in Ikebukuro a few years prior to now. Kikoku Kaibyakumon, the CEO of Beginning Gate, aimed to provide delinquents with a fresh start in life and a dream to pursue. One day, he assigned the duo specific certifications to study — Akira was tasked with studying cleaning, while Satoru focused on cooking. Although they were not satisfied at first, the duo eventually decided on their goal in life after Satoru suggested they open a restaurant together in the future, using the skills they had acquired. Thus, for the first time in their lives, the two had found a respectable dream.
Akira and Satoru often had conflicts which led to physical combat, although the reason for their quarrels is usually not specified. After a fight that ended with both of them losing a tooth, they decided to turn their fallen teeth into necklaces, which they later exchanged so they could wear them as a symbol of their bond and devotion.
One day, while the two were arguing about the type of restaurant they wanted to open in the future, the Chuohku administration arrived and arrested them, along with their co-workers at Beginning Gate. After being taken into custody by the government, they learned that the Director of Corrections planned on using them as test subjects for the unreleased Hypnosis Microphones. In order to save his co-workers, Akira offered to sacrifice himself. In response, Satoru insisted on joining him, touching his necklace as a sign of his devotion, and told Akira that they will stay together, even if it's in hell. They eventually lost their lives while being tested on by the Chuohku women, their lifeless bodies being later delivered back to their company director.
Chiaro & Scuro[]
After Akira and Satoru lost their lives, Kikoku Kaibyakumon, their former company director, used his advanced programming skills, along with his memories of the two, to bring them back as Artificial Intelligence (AI) versions of their former selves, named Chiaro and Scuro. These two seemed to have no clear recollection of Akira and Satoru's lives, except for a few vague flashbacks that occasionally surfaced. Despite being AIs, Chiaro and Scuro could feel emotion to some degree, which hinted that bits of Akira and Satoru were still present in their programming. For instance, Chiaro experienced rage and regret when he discovered that Chuohku had killed Akira and Satoru, while Scuro felt sadness and grief before Chiaro transferred his data to him, knowing he would disappear after being defeated by the main cast.
In the end, just like Akira and Satoru, the two met a tragic fate, "dying a second time".
Fanon[]
The ship isn't widely popular in the fanbase. So much so, that in AO3, there are currently less than 5 works written for the ship. Despite this, since Akira and Satoru are only canon in the Rhyme Anima + animation, it is shipped due to their strong devotion towards each other and their fun interactions. The intense angst only makes it easier for the characters to resonate with the viewers and tug at their hearts.
