AkiToya is the slash ship between Akito Shinonome and Touya Aoyagi from the Project SEKAI fandom.

Canon[]

Akito and Touya are members of the street music group Vivid BAD SQUAD. They are also members of their duo unit BAD DOGS which was formed two years prior to the main unit story when the two were in middle school. Both of them attend Kamiyama High as second-year students, and the two are also best friends.

Akito had experience performing music as a solo street artist before meeting Touya. On the other hand, Touya had been trained since he was young to perform classical music before rebelling against his father and choosing to become a street performer instead. While he initially quit classical music solely for the purpose of running away, Akito taught him about his dream to surpass - RAD WEEKEND - which he felt so passionately about. This motivated Touya to whole-heartedly chase that dream with him, leading to the formation of BAD DOGS. According to the main story, Akito knew Touya had what it took to surpass RAD WEEKEND upon first seeing him perform which is why he took initially took an interest in him.

After seeing the passion and motivation An and Kohane have when it came to chasing their dream, Touya becomes disheartened and breaks off his partnership with Akito in hopes that he'll move on to someone who is more worthy of standing by his side. However, rather than being honest about his reasoning for not wanting to sing with Akito anymore, he instead pretends to be leaving because he feels that their music means nothing, mirroring his fathers criticism of their chosen path. Despite taking what Touya said to heart, Akito is unable to grasp Touya's reasoning for abandoning their dream, which the virtual singers, namely MEIKO, uses to help him see through Touya's facade. With the added help of An’s father leaving Akito on the line so that Akito can hear his real reason for running away, Akito and Touya are given a chance to reconcile and be honest with their feelings for each other. Akito reassures Touya that he has no intention of teaming up with anyone other than him, calling him the best partner he could ask for.

Nocturne Interlude[]

In Episode 3, Touya is fretting about the situation with his father. Akito notices his worry and asks him what’s wrong. Touya tells him there’s something that has been bothering him, and Akito is surprised that Touya was willing to open up so easily. Touya tells Akito it was all thanks to him, which the latter replies to by saying flattery will get him nowhere.

In Episode 4, Akito notices that Touya is still thinking about his dad, to which he asks for confirmation. Touya affirms his suspicions and describes his father as towering over him with some sort of power, and no matter what he tries, he can’t get through to him. Akito immediately gets angry and says Touya shouldn't waste his energy trying to get someone like that to see sense. Touya disagrees and holds onto the hope that his dad still has good inside him, which causes Akito to want to protect Touya. Afterwards, he realises it’d be best if Touya faced his dad on his own.

Later on, Touya’s singing starts to decline as a result of his fight with his dad. Akito and the others pick up on this. An and Kohane are a little hesitant, not wanting to force Touya to say anything he doesn’t want to, but Akito disagrees and says he should get it out as soon as possible. He also says to Touya that he should rely on him a little more, hinting that he wants more of Touya’s attention.

STRAY BAD DOG[]

STRAY BAD DOG is Akito's first focus event, in this event, Akito really shows just how passionate he is about surpassing the legendary RAD WEEKEND. after a show with Vivid BAD SQUAD, that has gone quite well, Akito states they still cant be satisfied with just this. We then see Akito already practicing and warming up his voice, with Touya coming up to him. Akito states he needs to already practice two hours in advance of others if they want to give a good show, but also stating in his mind theres more to it than just that, saying that Touya's singing has gotten better since he got over what was happening with his dad, AKA the "Nocturne Interlude" event story, Also stating that An isn't making the same mistakes she used to, and Kohane has been growing faster than he could have expected, stating he needs to get better as well, to not stay behind and keep a decent wave within the group.

Fast forward to VBS' next event, they did great, as always, but the audience seemed to say something that caught Akito's attention, what they said being something about Vivid BAD SQUAD being almost as good as the "other guy" they saw. What "other guy"? Akito thinks to himself. the spectators also mentioned the other person wanting to surpass RAD WEEKEND, so... That person had the same goal as them? Akito was quite intrigued and questioned the spectators for the persons name. Arata Tono.

We then see VBS at the Weekend Garage together, talking about said Arata, Akito taking the shared goal as a challenge, with a determined face, one scaring Kohane a bit, Touya says to not mind it as Akito makes that face more often than she thinks. An then realized that Arata has been to Weekend Garage, like, 3 years back, to talk to her dad, Ken. She asks her dad a few questions on him, Ken said he was a "good kid", having a natural talent to get the crowd going, also mentioning him having a partner, which caught Akito's attention, but Ken answers with the fact that he atleast used to have one.

After the talk in Weekend Garage, Touya and Akito head home together, first, singing one more song at Vivid Street together, they go to their usual spot, but quickly notice theres more people than usual, then seeing they're cheering for aforementioned Arata Tono. Akito drags Touya along with him to go see Arata, wanting to see whats so special about him and what he's made of. Touya follows him reluctantly.

Akito goes up to Arata after he finished his show, apologizing for the interruption and asking for confirmation of him being Arata Tono, then saying he's heard rumors about him. Arata said he heard about VBS as well, Arata states he is fully capable of and will surpass RAD WEEKEND, saying he's more capable of doing it than VBS. Both Akito and Touya are surprised at the fact Arata knew about their goal of surpassing it. Bluntly saying they've been doing quite badly, and that he was hoping for more. Akito was clearly irritated by that, Arata mocking his face, saying his declaration still stands. Akito telling him to not get cocky on them, but Arata says he just spoke his mind.

Arata then said that he's surprised that it hasn't gotten through to Akito yet, Arata faced Touya and told him he has a good ear and his voice having very good pitch, telling him he's wasting his time on VBS. He then states that An has been doing quite well too, and Kohane is too amateurish for the group, saying he wouldn't have let her join in their place. He then seems like wanting to say something else, but Akito cuts him off. Saying that if he's so much better than them, why don't the three have a singing battle, the three of them.

Akito talks to Touya, making sure his voice is still in good enough condition to sing, but Touya seems worried, asking Akito what good could even come out of this, Akito just states that they can't let him rag on their group like that, stating that Touya doesn't have to join him, cause he can also face him alone. Touya quickly goes against the idea, saying that he'll sing with him, because he's his partner, and he's not in this alone.

The three of them have a exciting singing battle, both being really good. In the middle of it, Akito makes a remark to Arata, asking if he's still so certain about winning, Arata just replies with "of course", making it seem like he was preparing for something big, as suddenly, his whole vibe changed, his singing voice going way beyond good according to Touya, Akito stating he's felt the feeling he gets from listening to Arata before, we then see a flashback to RAD WEEKEND. Akito refuses to accept this, the battle comes to an end, with Arata winning obviously, he slightly mocks the two about it, saying they weren't so bad, then asking if they're seriously invested in RW just like he is. Akito replies that after seeing the event, he knew what he wanted to do in life, he learned that having a life without a goal or something to stride for is nothing but pointless, RAD WEEKEND is what kickstarted his life, and he's willing to spend his life trying to surpass what he saw on that beautiful night. Arata tells him that that's just the bare minimum. If you have a dream, spending yout life on it is the bare minimum you'll be having to pay, can you really call it a dream if you don't? He says thats what his partner told him, a partner that has gotten into a car accident, and he can't sing with him anymore. Akito apologizes for what happened to him. Arata then continues, saying he's talked lenghty about Akito's teammates, but theres one thing he left out.

"Shinonome, You're the least interesting one of the bunch." He said, Akito being quite shocked at the statement. Arata bluntly states that he thinks Akito puts on good shows, but that every person performing in RAD WEEKEND was a genius, and that Akito doesn't have that. Arata then says

"Shinonome, Your teammates are all more talented than you realize and they may even become first-rate performers in their own right in time. But it's too hard for me to believe that you'll be up there with them when that time comes."

Akito was speechless at that. Arata continues, pointing out that Akito has been feeling the same thing, and Touya steps between the two. Touya says he understands they may not have what it takes to surpass RAD WEEKEND just yet, but that he does not appreciate Akito being blamed like this. Akito got slightly startled at Touya standing up for him, telling him that it's okay, and they both walk away.

The two go to an alley in Vivid Street, where Touya says Akito's name, trying to ask if he's okay, this just results in Akito muttering a "Damn it..." To himself. Touya apologizes to Akito, Akito, clearly surprised at the sudden apology, asks him why he's apologizing. Touya says that if he had sung a bit better himself, Akito wouldn't have to hear that and take the blame. Akito says that it's not Touya's fault, and then says that he himself is the one holding them all back, no one else, Touya disagrees, telling Akito it's not true, but he cuts him off, saying he knows better than everyone else. Touya asks Akito to please stand up, saying that the both always get back up after getting knocked down, that's just what they do, Akito sighs and stands up, admitting to Touya being right, Touya asks Akito if he's feeling any better, and Akito says he never thought he'd be the one to need cheering up, especially from his partner.

An Ode for the Pure of Heart[]

An Ode for the Pure of Heart, also known as Touya's first mixed event, in Episode 1: "A Sudden Substitution", Touya is called by Saki, informing Touya about Tsukasa's sick case and had asked him to attend a Wedding Ceremony that Tsukasa was not able to attend because of a sudden illness. Though caught off guard, Touya hesitates for a while, as the call goes on, Akito asks Touya what's wrong, Touya immediately tells Akito he's not able to enter the SEKAI with him, since he has to replace Tsukasa from his role.

Though still confused, Akito wonders what Touya means by "replacement", Touya explains, which results to Akito reassuring Touya about his decision, showing concern as he asks if Touya is certain of his decision. He worries that Touya may not be able to handle it properly, and is worried for his sake since he's a little inexperienced with drama and theatre. But Touya assures that he'll find a way to make it up to Akito once he's done. In the second episode, Rui is in need of singing and dancing for the wedding show. Touya thinks for a moment, and tells him that Akito may be able to help them. Touya believes Akito is able to do well for the role required, and begs him to take part of it. Akito hesitates, because he "isn't willing to work with someone like Rui", and Touya has a disappointed look on his face. After Touya states the reason why the wedding show is very important to him, Akito instantly feels guilty. He eventually gives in, though telling Rui; "This is for Touya, not you, got it?" indicating he was only willing to take part for Touya.
