Akikoha is the het ship between Akito Shinonome and Kohane Azusawa from the Project SEKAI fandom.

Canon[]

Kohane and Akito are members of the street music squad VIVID BAD SQUAD and its sub-units, Vivids (Kohane) and BAD DOGS (Akito). Although Kohane initially thought Akito seemed nice, she also thought he was threatening as well. Akito was wary of Kohane's prowess as a singer as well. However, the two start warming up to each other after their unit story, with Akito even admitting that she is very necessary for their group. They are also second-year high school students but attend different high schools (Akito goes to Kamiyama High School, and Kohane attends Miyamasuzaka Girls Academy).

In VIVID BAD SQUAD's main story, during their first meeting, Kohane thinks that Akito seems a bit scary, but also that he can't be a bad person if An knows him. After their introductions, Akito tells Kohane he's performed and also known An ever since middle school, amazing Kohane. When Akito finds out that An has partnered up with Kohane, Akito initially acts polite around her, asking if she's performed anywhere else, but upon finding out she is a complete amateur to the street music scene, he invites them to perform at livehouse RED with ulterior motives. When Touya asks why he invited them out of nowhere, Akito goes on explaining how there's no way An will be able to accomplish her dream of surpassing RAD WEEKEND with a "timid, half-hearted noob" and how he's planning on totally crushing them.

When Vivids get onstage and start singing, Kotaro, one of Akito's musician friends cuts off the power to sabotage the Vivids, and Kohane freezes from stage fright. This forces An to cover for her, and it ruins their performance. She apologizes to An offstage and then they find the BAD DOGS fighting with Kotaro. Akito decides to take the blame that he was the one who did it, explaining how he needed to crush the Vivids to prove that Kohane has no resolve to surpass the RAD WEEKEND both he and An idolize. When An defends Kohane, saying she froze because it was her very first event, Akito questions her words and remarks that wouldn't stop An, as well as how practicing hard does not equal having a strong resolve. Kohane then runs away in tears after Akito tells her she doesn't belong in their scene, and when Touya asks why he didn't tell them the truth, he says hates excuses and how it was Akito's fault that Kotaro cut off the power in the first place. In Chapter 12, after Kohane cuts her hair and reconciles with An, Akito and Touya are surprised to find her at Weekend Garage. Kohane refutes his claim, telling him she doesn't do anything half-hearted, and how she's going to perform with An again. Akito warns her again, telling Kohane he hates those with weak resolves, and how he'll stop at nothing to crush Vivids if they plan on crashing into their next event. Kohane tells Akito she isn't going to run away again, shocking him.

In Kohane's initial 3* second side story, as Akito explains VIVID BAD SQUAD was invited to a big event as special guests, Kohane starts feeling nervous and explains how she's unsure of herself because she doesn't have as much experience as the other three. Akito tells her he didn't sign them up for the event because it's big and they're the special guests, but because he trusts they'll perform well, Kohane included.

Singing in Sync[]

The event begins with the unit discussing which event they should enter and when STAY GOLDEN gets bought up, An suggests they should participate in it. After a rehearsal session, An tells the nervous Kohane that she'll cover for her and get them back on track if she fails. Akito is about to ask something regarding Kohane, but then insists it's nothing after all. During the chorus, Kohane ends up failing and An forces herself to back the former up despite Akito trying to signal that they need to sing it without her or else it'll fall completely apart. In Chapter 3, after their performance, Kohane heads out to buy drinks and An laments how she failed to protect her; Akito immediately calls her out on this, telling An she doesn't think Kohane as a full-fledged member of their unit but rather as someone "she needs to protect." He also tells her that if she truly thinks like that, then Kohane is nothing but a helpless girl who can't do anything on her own to her.

In Kohane's "Once More, Together" card's second side story, as she, Akito and Touya are waiting for An, Akito tells her to not stress their upcoming event out too much. When Kohane assures she'll do as well as him, Akito smiles and says he's happy to see she's getting more confident. Upon hearing attendees talking about their earlier performance at STAY GOLDEN, Kohane is startled and says it's her fault that their reputation took a hit. Akito tells her that if she is so bothered by what others are saying, she should prove them wrong by performing amazingly. She then thinks back on how Akito didn't acknowledge her at first, but upon seeing her perform, he apologized and admitted she has the resolve. Akito mentions An being late again and tells them go inside, also mentioning that way Kohane doesn't need to listen to some guys trash talking their unit before the performance. When Kohane asks if he was being considerate of her, Touya tells her yes, and then they follow after Akito when he says he'll leave Kohane and Touya behind as well.

Quotes[]

Akito“Here, take this.”
Kohane“What? Um, an album?”
Akito“I gather by your reaction that you don't know who this is. If you only listen to what An recommends, your tastes are going to become unbalanced. Don't let yourself get too focused on a single genre just because it's popular.”
Kohane“Oh, thanks! I'll try to listen to a lot of different styles!”
— Area Conversation at Music Shop
Kohane“*Sigh* What should I do...?”
Akito“Hm? Hey, what brings you here?”
Kohane“Oh, Shinonome-kun! I was just trying to pick out some clothes...”
Akito“Clothes?”
Kohane“Yeah. The top that the store over there has on display looks really cool, but...”
Akito“If you're worried about how you'll look in it, I think you'll be fine. From what I can tell, it should go pretty well with the outfit you've been wearing for shows.”
Kohane“Y-You really think so?!”
Akito“That's just my opinion. Also, you don't have to rush to purchase, so why not just come back and try seeing what else it might go with?”
Kohane“Yeah, I think I will! Thank you so much, Shinonome-kun!”
— Area Conversation at Main Street
Kohane“Sorry, I was just thinking that I need to give it my best today.”
Akito“Don't stress out about it so much, or you'll panic and fumble again.”
Kohane“I won't! I'll sing as well as you do!”
Akito“Neat, you're finally showing some confidence.”
— "Once More, Together" second side story
“Keep your chin high and show them how awesome you are.”
— Akito encouraging Kohane in "Once More, Together" second side story
“Also, Shinonome-kun wasn't wrong about what he said... Back then, I definitely didn't fully comprehend what it meant to surpass RAD WEEKEND or what it would actually take. What he said shocked me, and I thought I wasn't good enough... But if he hadn't said that, I probably wouldn't have taken a hard look at what I was doing. Singing and chasing after the same dream as An-chan... And just now I realized something... I have a feeling that Shinonome-kun said what he said to me because he knew what it meant to sing here. He knew better than anyone else how you need to be determined to succeed. Which is why I think... It was his way of being kind...”
— Kohane in "Countdown to Christmas!" first side story
“Your stoic personality's already given me so much courage, Shinonome-kun. Hehe. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the future has in store for us!”
— Happy Birthday!! (Akito) second side story
An“Don't you have anything to say, Akito?”
Akito“I mean, she did what she usually does. Just stay focused for the next event, okay?”
An“Oh, is that how it's gonna be..? Who was the showering with praise just a second ago?”
Akito“You tell me.”
— Akito and An talking about Kohane's performance in Scramble Fan Festival! Episode 10 "Keep Delivering More And More"
Akito“Don't lose focus just 'cause you didn't get to rest.”
Kohane“I won't! I'll sing with my head held high!”
— Vivid BAD SQUAD New Year 2021 Virtual Live
Kohane“When the time comes, I'll fight with you! You're my precious teammate, after all.”
Akito“Kohane. You...”
— Find A Way Out: Chapter 8, "Someday, Even If It's Not Soon"
Kohane“Umm... Oh, I know! I want to take a picture of everyone celebrating!”
Akito“Huh? Even though it's your birthday, you want to take the picture and not be in it?”
Kohane“Yes! Is that okay...?”
Akito“...Ugh, fine, if you want to do it then let's do it. Since it's your birthday and all.”
Kohane“Yay! Hehehe, I'll take lots of pictures when the birthday party starts!”

Fanon[]

Akikoha is somewhat popular in the Eastern fandom due to its shy girl x tsundere boy gimmick. It currently has over 1000 works on Pixiv. Meanwhile, in the Western fandom, where it's not as popular, it has been known having tropes and/or being very similar to a "traditional shoujo romance", however, it has gotten considerably more popular since the start of 2023, and fans have observed Akikoha being the first M/F VBS ship the fandom warmed up to. It is mostly rivaled by other Vivid BAD SQUAD ships such as Anhane, Akian and AkiToya. In fanart, Akito is often shown to be protective of Kohane or jealous of other guys who interact with her.

Some fans compare it to Kyohru from the Fruits Basket fandom, due to the similarities in personality and the fact that Akito and Kyo both have orange hair.

On AO3, there are currently 220+ written works.

Ship Weeks[]

The first Akikoha Week was held on November 7-13, 2022 under the akikohaweek2022 hashtag on Twitter. Prompts for the first day were "café or encounter", "seasons or fashion" for the second day, "music or confession" for the third day, "fantasy or flowers" for the fourth day, "first date or warmth" for the fifth day, "birthday or future" for the sixth day, and the seventh and last day was free day.
