AkuKai is the het ship between Lea/Axel and Kairi from the Kingdom Hearts fandom.
Canon[]
Axel first met Kairi when he went to visit her on the beach in Destiny Islands. Sora was busy traveling the worlds, so Organization XIII was going to kidnap her. The plan was to use her as bait to fuel Sora into destroying more heartless and possibly re-releasing Roxas. Axel decides to prevent this and arrives to try and convince Kairi to leave with him. He even comments that he already feels like they are friends, but she does not trust him and follows Pluto instead.
Kairi manages to escape to Twilight Town, and seeks refuge there. However, Axel later arrives there in a corridor of darkness and takes Kairi away by force. It turns out that Axel just wants to make sure that she is safe from the rest of the Organization, but Saïx eventually intervenes and captures Kairi. Axel later meets Sora and explains what happened. He sacrifices his life so that Sora can make his way to her, and asks that Sora apologize to her on his behalf.
Some time after the events of Kingdom Hearts II, Axel returns as his human form, Lea. He decides to visit Master Yen Sid and ask to train under him as a keyblade wielder. Kairi is asked to join him, and the two begin to train in a special realm where time does not pass. Lea is seen bringing Kairi sea salt ice cream, something he was known to do with his friends in Twilight Town. Kairi asks Lea to stop apologizing for kidnapping her as his nobody form, Axel. He agrees, but asks that she call him Axel from now on. They are later seen watching the sunset together.
Lea and Kairi join the other Guardians of Light at the Keyblade Graveyard. When Kairi is about to be attacked by Terra-Xehanort, Lea throws himself in front of her. Later, they are seen fighting together against Saïx and Xion. This time, Kairi is seen jumping in front of Lea to protect him from an attack. They continue to fight, alongside Sora and later Roxas and Xion, until Kairi is kidnapped by Xemnas.

AkuKai has a small amount of popularity in the Kingdom Hearts fandom. Kairi is shipped with nearly every member of Organization XIII and Axel is no exception. This ship was mainly based around the fact that Axel attempted to befriend Kairi on the beach and prevent the organization from capturing her. The fact that he felt sorry for taking her by force also showed signs that he had a heart which many fans liked. It grew in popularity when the two shared most of their scenes together in Kingdom Hearts III. However, it pales in comparison to the popularity of ships like SoKai for Kairi and LeaIsa for Axel/Lea. AkuKai is more commonly written as a platonic pairing than a romantic one.
