Ambrollins is the slash ship between Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins from the World Wrestling Entertainment fandom.
Canon[]
Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose first met in 2011 while signed to FCW, WWE's developmental territory at the time. They feuded over Seth's FCW 15 Championship, their first and second matches ending in draws. Their final match ended 3-2 in Seth's favor after going into overtime.
In 2012, Seth and Dean debuted on the main roster alongside Roman Reigns, where they were known as The Shield. They were originally heels, but eventually turned on their employer CM Punk to become babyfaces. However, there were signs of tension in the group after Dean started behaving erratically. While they never came to blows, Seth eventually walked out on him during a tag match.
The week after, the Shield hosted a summit to discuss their growing issues. Dean hit Seth several times, but a full-on fight did not occur. They continued to coexist, the tension remaining.
Eventually, Seth turned on the Shield to join The Authority. He attacked Dean and Roman with a steel chair, hitting the latter once and the former seven times. Dean was stunned by the betrayal and did not get a chance to fight back.
While Roman focused on the Authority, Dean and Seth launched into a highly personal feud that would last two years. Dean played several pranks during this time, such as dumping ice water on Seth's head and planting a slime bomb in his briefcase. Despite this, he remained very angry at Seth during their promos and swore to ruin his life.
Eventually, the two men had a match at Summerslam, one of WWE's pay-per-views. Dean grew very emotional during the match, shouting in Seth's face that he loved him and eventually kissing him on the forehead. Seth won the match, and the week after, he slammed Dean's head into a pile of cinderblocks. After he recovered, the two men had another match at Hell In A Cell, which ended in Seth's favor and seemingly ended the feud.
Six months later, Seth won the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania and Dean got an opportunity to face him. After losing, he stole the belt and ran away with it, kicking off their second feud. Following several promos and weekly matches, the two men faced off at Money In The Bank. Seth won at the end of a very bitter match, putting things to rest again.
When Seth returned from a November knee injury, he entered a feud with Roman Reigns. He won the WWE Championship again at MITB, only for Dean to cash in a few minutes later. At the end of a very long night that saw all three Shield members as champion, the Lunatic Fringe was finally victorious.
The two launched into their third feud, although things were more humorous than vicious. Dean saw Seth as a minor annoyance, while the Architect really wanted “his” title back. There was a notable moment during this feud where Dean groped Seth walking up the ramp. The whole thing went unnoticed, and the feud ended with a Shield triple threat match. Dean retained and was drafted to Smackdown, separating him and Seth.
During Survivor Series 2016, the Shield had a brief reunion to powerbomb AJ Styles, Dean’s rival at the time. They would stay apart until 2017, when the Lunatic Fringe came back to Raw with the Intercontinental Championship.
Aside from a brief promo and match for the title, Seth and Dean didn’t really have any screen time. Two months later, however, Dean was attacked backstage by his rival The Miz. Seth came to his aid, which he didn’t appreciate. The newly babyface Architect was attacked later that night in retaliation and Dean returned the favor.
A few weeks later, Seth offered to be in Dean’s corner against the Miz. He refused, citing their history and the Architect’s untrustworthiness. Seth eventually apologized, reaching an emotional breaking point. They nearly got into yet another fight, but came together when the Miz attacked.
Eventually, Dean and Seth transitioned into a feud with Sheamus and Cesaro. Dean flipped out when they attacked Seth, beating back the Bar. The four men had a match at Summerslam for the Raw Tag Team Championship, which Dean and Seth won. Their reign lasted for several months and a Shield reunion occurred. After trying to get the titles back in December, Dean injured his elbow.
Nine months later, Dean returned to assist Seth in his feud with Dolph Ziggler. They won the feud and reunited with Roman once again. Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, and Braun Strowman attempted to plant seeds of doubt in Dean’s mind. While there was some tension, the Shield got through the feud in one piece.
Roman was forced to take some time off after his leukemia returned. Seth and Dean won the Raw Tag Team Championship again, then the Lunatic Fringe turned heel and attacked. Seth did not fight back for the first few weeks, simply begging his friend to calm down. But when he didn’t come to his senses, they got into a few brawls and fought over the Intercontinental Championship. Dean won their match in December, kissing Seth on the head again and ending the feud.
In January 2019, it was announced Dean would be leaving WWE in April. He slowly began to turn face again, Seth eventually referring to them as "wrestling soulmates". They had a final reunion with Roman, and Dean wished Seth good luck at Wrestlemania. The Shield won their final match and gave the Lunatic Fringe two send-offs. Seth told his friend he loved him during the second one, and they shared an emotional hug.
After leaving WWE, Dean released a promo on Twitter. Seth retweeted it with a fist bump emoji. The Kingslayer later said he was confident they’d see Dean in WWE again.
Fanon[]
Ambrollins is one of the most popular modern WWE ships. After Seth's betrayal, several news sights compared the storyline to that of ex-lovers. The two men received heat in 2017 for hugging after a match, which supposedly wasn't "in-character".
During a Reddit AMA, Seth was asked who he'd FMK between Dean, Roman, and Kurt Angle. He said he'd screw Dean, noting he'd probably have some stories. He also referred to the Lunatic Fringe as his wrestling soulmate long before he did on Raw.
Because he is not active on social media, Dean has not made any comments for or against the ship.
On AO3, Ambrollins is the most written ship for both Dean and Seth. It is also the most popular ship within the WWE tag.
