AmeYu is the Slash ship between Ameri and Fujikura Yuma from the manga Well, Shall I Murder Instead of You? (じゃあ、君の代わりに殺そうか？).
Canon[]
Ameri and Yuma are known to be classmates. They first meet in Chapter 1, when Yuma is being harassed by Nishino’s group, one of them throws a shoe at his head, prompting Ameri to intervene. Ameri retaliates by throwing the shoe out the window and promising Yuma that he will protect him from now on. Yuma is initially timid and wary of his strange new friend, but after discovering that Ameri shares the same hobby of writing broadcast, the two begin to bond. However, beneath Ameri’s friendliness lies a bloody and complicated secret he keeps hidden. Ameri seriously injured one of the boys in Nishino’s group and secretly kidnapped Nishino himself, imprisoning and torturing him in the basement of his mountain house. Much like with the broadcast, Ameri did not hesitate to share this horrifying act with Yuma, effectively making him an accomplice. By binding Yuma to his crime, Ameri turned the poor little boy’s life upside down. Yuma believed he had been saved from despair, only to be dragged from one form of suffering into another. Most of the challenges they face thereafter revolve around Nishino’s situation and Ameri’s past - later revealed under his real name, Kirimine Mao.
Ameri (Mao) spent his childhood constantly searching for his missing twin brother. During one of his frantic attempts to find him, little Mao accidentally encountered Yuma playing at the park, and even though they were not brothers nor related by blood, Mao insistently regarded Yuma as “a cute little brother”. Because of Yuma’s gentle nature, he quickly befriended Mao, and the two children shared a brief but precious time together. Mao protected Yuma from bullies and made him a promise - he would “come to save Yuma” whenever Yuma needed him. However, their happiness was short-lived. Mao had to move away soon after due to conflict between his mother and her lover. It was not the first time he had been forced to wander despite still being just a child. Even after growing up, Ameri never forgot Yuma, he preserved the memory of their bond and continued longing to reunite with Yuma, even if under a different identity. As long as he could protect Yuma and stay by his side, that was enough. As of now, the main storyline of the manga has concluded in Chapter 82.5, although three additional extra chapters are planned to be released up until around February 2026, barring any changes.

Fanon[]
AmeYuu began gaining popularity among fans from the early chapters, as the author immediately presented the two with a bonded dynamic that steadily deepens over time. The author initially leads readers to believe that Ameri arrives as Yuma’s savior, when in truth, the opposite proves to be the case. Their desire to be understood and comforted by one another is strong (especially on Yuma’s side), but their contrasting personalities and emotional wounds make reconciliation and emotional healing difficult. This struggle is intensified by Ameri’s absence from school, which limits their time together. Yet despite these barriers, they remain each other’s destination. In terms of characterization, Ameri is framed with “dominant boyfriend” traits controlling, possessive and intense while Yuma is timid and passive. This combination is enticing and engaging for many readers. The manga also provides several intimate interactions between them, such as cheek touching, hand holding, hugging,... These tender exchanges between two male characters captivate readers, who enjoy interpreting them through a romantic lens.

Trivia[]
- According to the interview between RealSound Book and author (the scriptwriter), the original concept for the story included the two main characters becoming a romantic couple, but this idea was later discarded because the author felt it would take the narrative "too far".
