America (Comics)[]
America realizes she needs a break because she went through a break up, is overwhelmed by her tasks as a superhero and has school responsibilities on top of all of that. So she ends up on vacation at Kate's house. America tells Kate that in addition to the whole thing with Madrimar, there is another thing that confuses her in her life, a girl from her past has suddenly started writing her private love letters. Kate replies that it is most likely because she has made it more than clear that she is single on her social media. But America still doubts because she wonders why she appears just at this moment.
America shows the messages to Kate, which basically is Magdalena (the girl in question) flirting to the fullest while she asks América to come visit her because she needs help for some unrevealed reason and also warns her not to use portals to do the trip. America and Kate then decide that they are going to take a trip together because they are having fun for a while and having a good time together. So they get in the car and start driving towards the place where Magdalena lives. Along the way, it's revealed that the relationship between America and Magdalena goes back a long way. They met when they were 11 years old and from then on they grew up together. In fact, Magdalena was the first person America kissed.
After driving for a while, the two of them end up seeing Magdalena approaching the car on her motorcycle to deliver some flowers to America. The moment gets violently interrupted when a group of cyborgs attack them. So America and Kate give it their all fighting against the cyborgs. Once the imminent danger passes, Kate leaves America and Magdalena alone, so they can share an intimate talk. As the two of them go away, Kate is left in the car, thinking about love "between women," in awe of her friend's love with another girl.
- I am literally intrigued and in awe of both of them. If this is what it's like to date other women, then I applaud all the women dating women right now because this is incredible. Motorcycle courtship chase? Check. Missiles and explosions? Yup. And now "we're just flying together in the sky, heading to a giant heart." I swear, if they come back married I'm going to be so jealous. Always the bride's best archer, never the archer bride.
- —Kate's monologue after seeing America and Magdalena together.
In order to not get bored, Kate starts looking at things in the car and reading , but as she starts walking, she realizes that Magdalena is one of the bad guys. So Kate rushes out to tell America but it's too late, because she and Magdalena kiss and while America is distracted, Magdalena injects her with some strange substance. Kate is unable to save America on time and she gets kidnapped. So Kate decides to rescue America, and just as she was about to get in her car to rush to America, Madrimar shows up and asks her for a ride because she also wants to rescue America. So the two join forces this time to get to her.
Meanwhile, America was kidnapped and forced to fight Magdalena, who was forced to fight America because they kidnapped her father as well and threatened Magdalena with his life. Kate and Madrimar manage to get to where they have Magdalena's father trapped and rescue him to later appear via the portal and help America control the situation. When they have it more or less clear, America asks Kate to get Magdalena and her father out of there because she and Madrimar have a bad guy to kill and she needs to know that her ex is safe to concentrate 100 percent in the fight.
As America and Madrimar talk, Kate talks in private with Magdalena, because she still needs her to clarify why she betrayed America instead of asking her for help with her problem. Magdalena replies that she didn't know half of the plan and that she was clear that her ex could solve it because she is a hero for a reason. And then, when Kate asks Magdalena if she "loves, loves" America, Magdalena replies "in my own way," as she says "but you love her too, don't you?"
- She's the Thelma to my Louise, minus the driving off a cliff part.
- —Kate about America.
After America gets to accept Magdalena's apology and says goodbye to her, she goes to tightly hug Kate. America says goodbye with tears in her eyes and all the love in the world. Kate asks America to enjoy her newly found grandmother's love, while she will be in charge of analyzing every detail of her grandmother for her. And they both go their own ways with the promise to meet again in the future to catch up.
