Amilith is the friendship between Lilith Clawthorne and Amity Blight from The Owl House fandom.

Canon[]

With Amity being groomed to join the Emperor's Coven, she became one of Lilith's students to give herself a boost and ends up becoming Lilith's top student. Amity also has an Emperor's Coven recruitment poster of Lilith in her room, to serve as a reminder of the coven her parents wants their daughter to join. Their relationship is mostly of teacher and student.

When Lilith discovered her sister's human student had challenged Amity to a witches duel and wanted to prove that she is a better teacher than Eda, while knowing that her younger sister is a cheater, Lilith secretly placed a power up glyph tag on the back of Amity's neck, without her knowledge. Knowing that she may not agree to the idea of cheating and was blinding from how she wanted to outdo her sister, while not taking into account on how it would affect Amity later on. When Amity discovered the reason of her magic boost, she ran out of the ring, with how the construction glyph was removed off of her in front of a large crowd and didn't know how to explain it, while Eda revealed her sister's cheating to everyone. Even though Eda cheated as well her student was aware of it in advance, Amity wasn't aware of her mentor's cheating and how Lilith's actions have made Amity appear as the cheater. Causing Amity to lose respect for her mentor.

Amity and Lilith in the timeskip, shown to be on good terms now

Amity's poster of Lilith is believed to have been taken down after her mentor left the Emperor's Coven and with Amity deciding that she doesn't want to join that coven at all. Once Lilith learned that Amity had become close to Luz she was happy for her, revealing that Lilith cares about her former student. By the time that Amity started to visit the Owl House to see Luz whenever she wanted, however, Lilith had left her sister's home to live with her mother. Keeping the two from crossing paths for the rest of the series. On their separate ends after drifting away from the Emperor's Coven, both Lilith and Amity started to loosen up and be more open than they were before. Since their strike proud images were for the people they wanted to please, but after the two started to think what they want from life and began to reconnect with their trouble seeking siblings.

When Amity looks at the puppets, she focuses on Lilith and says "Miss Lilith?". Even though Lilith's appearance had changed since they last saw each other, Amity was still able to recognize her former mentor.

Some point during the four years time skip, Amity and Lilith appear to have made up and are on good terms with one another again. With how an older Amity is seeing hugging Lilith and is helping her with the library expansion project. The two are also revealed to have developed a more open and affectionate relationship over the years.

Amity is interested in Lilith's knowledge about the Boiling Isles' history. [1]

Behind the Scenes[]

“Honestly, Amity and Lilith are not that close. At least I never thought of them that way. Neither of them, from my POV, know what it's like to be particularly close with a parent (in Amity's case) or a child/student (in Lilith's case). They're each a tool to attain each other's goals, they are both extremely pragmatic characters... At least Lilith thinks of herself that way, haha. After Covention I imagine Amity lost a lot of respect for Lilith that day. Amity being tricked into cheating?! Nightmare!”
— Dana Terrace on Amity and Lilith's relationship during Season 1[2]

Fanon[]

This friendship started in season one when "Convention" featured Amity as Lilith's Luz. With Amity working hard to get herself in the Emperor's Coven, like Lilith before her, and had a recruitment poster of Lilith in her room. Along with how both Amity and Lilith were first viewed as villains of the series, before their love for Luz and Eda changed them. The two not interacting for the rest of the series, however, was what got people to drift away from this friendship. Since Lilith being confirmed to be an aromantic and has no interest in dating is what has fans steering clear of Lilith ships that are of a romantic nature. Just as Amity being confirmed to be a lesbian has them not featuring her in any het related ships. The big age gap between them is another strong reason why people prefer to ship them as friends than lovers.

Some of the earlier fanworks of the two had featured Lilith as a mother-like figure to Amity, with how Eda was one to Luz. Which might be why some people like to portray Amity and Lilith as Luz and Eda in Role Swap AU's. After Amity's actual mother was revealed and how much kinder Lilith has become in the second season, it has people thinking that Lilith would be a much better mother to Amity than Odalia was. Despite Lilith's cheating stunt through an unknowing Amity, Lilith tries to make up for her mistakes while Odalia only cares about herself. Most people like to picture Lilith and Amity confine within each other when it comes to the trouble they have with their mothers, or trade hair dye tips. As those are two of the things that they have in common with each other. People featuring Lilith as Amity's second mother is believed to be one of the reasons why a small group have shipped Lilith with Alador Blight.

Fans of the TOH friendship were glad that season three showed them to have patched things up in the credits. Even though they wish that Amity and Lilith were given other moments between each other in the series. With how "Convection" was the only episode they interacted with each other in canon, and how the aftermath of Lilith's cheating actions behind Amity's back caused the young witch to lose respect for her mentor. Along with people wanting to see the two mend their mentor/mentee relationship on screen, like how the series had shown Amity reconnect with her father and Lilith with her sister.

Some thought in "Lost in Language" it was possible that Amity was referring to Lilith when she stated: "Called my teacher mom again." Since the energy Lilith displayed while getting people to join the Emperor's Coven in "Convention," was a little similar to the energy Odalia Blight showcased in "Escaping Expulsion." However, Dana has confirmed she wasn't referring to Lilith.[2] On AO3, the friendship has 188+ gen fanfics. Some of these fics, as well as a few fan comics, Amity reunites with Lilith at the Owl House, before or after Lilith left and runs into Amity during one of her visits.
