Amphiseidon is the het ship between Amphitrite and Poseidon from Greek Mythology.
Canon[]
Amphitrite was either one of the Nereids or Oceanids, both of which reside in Poseidon's domain of the sea. According to Bryzantine scholar Eusthatius, Poseidon first saw her dancing with her sisters at Naxos, she was said to be the most beautiful of all. He immediately fell for her and, in Ancient Greek tradition, decided to abduct her so she could be his. But Amphitrite resisted his advances, she desired to remain a virgin. So she fled to the Atlas mountains, some versions instead have her seek shelter with the titan Atlas. Poseidon knew better than to chase after her, he instead called out to the creatures of the sea to seek her out. A dolphin found her and persuaded her into accepting Poseidon as her husband, when Amphitrite willingly returned, Poseidon thanked the dolphin by immortalizing it as a constellation. All later versions give them the epithet of being the husband or wife of the other. According to Homer, Amphitrite was not married to Poseidon by the time of the Trojan War. In comparison to her sister-in-law Hera, Amphitrite showed no hostility towards Poseidon's concubines or their children, one anecdote of Theseus visiting Poseidon (who is often considered to be one of Theseus' fathers), Amphitrite greets him cordially by putting her wedding wreath on him.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians[]
Amphitrite is introduced in the last book of the first series The Last Olympian, where she meets Poseidon's son Percy for the first time while holding a council with Poseidon and the cyclopses to discuss strategies in the on-going war. Poseidon introduces Percy to her, but Amphitrite doesn't look at him when excusing herself, claiming she's needed in battle. Whilst excusing herself, she refers to her husband as "my lord". Seeing Percy feel guilty about making his stepmother uncomfortable, Poseidon pardons her behaviour.
However, the later companion novel Percy Jackson's Greek Gods clarifies that Amphitrite genuinely holds no hostility towards Poseidon's children with his concubines, showing that she acts genuinely nice to Percy after the war ended.
Fanon[]
Seeing as it is a canon couple in mythology, modern retellings are often in support of Poseidon's marriage to Amphitrite. It is Amphitrite's most notable and reocurring ship and often one of Poseidon's most popular ships as well.
Amphitrite is rarely given much characterization beyond her role as Poseidon's wife. Though many think of their marriage as one of the happier ones in the pantheon. Based on her general neutrality towards Poseidon's affairs, some even joke that they have an open relationship, even shipping Amphitrite with one of Poseidon's lovers in a throuple.
