- Only through eternity are you closest to the heavenly principles.
- — Raiden Shogun in "Judgement of Euthymia" trailer.
AsmoEi is the femslash ship between the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles and Raiden Ei from the Genshin Impact fandom.
Canon[]
The two have never interacted. They are both gods of Teyvat. However, the Sustainer, datamined to be named Asmoday, appears to be a god of Celestia. Ei is the Electro Archon and God of Eternity, and is supposed to be connected to Celestia due to her gnosis. However, she stopped using her Gnosis long before the events of the game and thus severed ties with Celestia. One thing of note is that they have similar views of godly superiority over mankind; Asmoday looks down on mankind for being arrogant, and Ei went to extreme measures despite what her people thought, because she believed she knew what was best for her people.
Ei's pursuit of eternity has also been connected to Asmoday's domain, the Heavenly Principles. At the end of the Liyue Archon quest, Zhongli explains Ei's reasoning for her actions, quoting: "Seven ideals for seven gods, and of these, Eternity is nearest unto the Heavenly Principles." Similarly, in the Raiden Shogun's character demo, she states: "Only through Eternity are you closest to the Heavenly Principles."
Both gods also seem to be present around the fall of Khaenri'ah. It is heavily implied that Asmoday is the one to have destroyed Khaenri'ah, because of the presence of cubes there. Ei arrived in the aftermath and witnessed the death of the sister there. It is unknown if Asmoday or Ei saw each other at this time. This event is what caused Ei to shape her belief of eternity, that Inazuma must be unchanging so it doesn't get destroyed like Khaenri'ah was. Yae Miko calls out that Ei doesn't truly care about the Heavenly Principles, just about protecting Inazuma.
- “But I saw a nation stride forward, and lose everything to the Heavenly Principles.”
- — Ei, Promise of a People's Dream
Fanon[]
AsmoEi is a rarepair in the fandom. Its main appeal is that they are seen as the Genshin version of Honkai's Kiamei. The Unknown God (Asmoday) bears a striking resemblance to Kiana Kaslana as the Herrscher of the Void, who comes from another HoYoverse game, Honkai Impact 3rd:
- The two also share the same Chinese and Japanese voice actresses.
- They both have the four-pointed symbol from the portal that the unknown god uses.
- The connection between the unknown god and Kiana Kaslana was hinted during a program held on March 18, 2020, for the second Closed Beta Test of Genshin Impact.[1] The program was hosted by Wei Liu and combat designer Aquaria.[2]
Raiden Ei is also a clear counterpart to Raiden Mei from Houkai Gakuen 2 and Honkai Impact 3rd, both of which are HoYoverse games, as the two share a plethora of connections:
- The two harness the power of lightning (Electro).
- Raiden Shogun's real name, "Raiden Ei" is similar to Raiden Mei's name.
- They are both voiced by Juhuahua in Chinese and Miyuki Sawashiro in Japanese.
- They are very similar in appearance, with both having long purple hair and purple eyes.
- Raiden Mei is the 3rd Herrscher (Herrscher of Thunder) while the Raiden Shogun is the third among the Seven Archons to appear.
- In one of the Online Honkai Mangas, There is a chapter called "The Wrath of Baal," where it shows Mei's first appearance as the Herrscher of Thunder.
The Raiden Shogun shares a similar appearance as well as her Chinese and Japanese voice actresses with Acheron from Honkai: Star Rail, also another HoYoverse game featuring a version of Raiden Mei.
Theories[]
The ship was at its most popular before the release of Inazuma, where Raiden Ei's lore was unknown. Some theorized that Baal knew Asmoday and her current actions are an effort to reunite with her. People like to play with the idea that the two feel an inexplicable connection to one another, because Kiana and Mei are destined for each other no matter what universe. Alternatively, since Asmoday has an antagonistic role in the story, some portray them as enemies, or an evil power couple.
After the release of Inazuma's Archon Quest, the theorized connection to Ei and Asmoday changed. This theory stipulates that Asmoday, or Celestia in general, is similar to the Honkai, which destroys civilizations once they advance too much, which is the reason why Ei wanted to maintain eternity and stop change in Inazuma.
Other[]
The release of Inazuma also brought the rise of EiSara and EiMiko as Ei's most popular ships, so AsmoEi decreased in popularity. Asmoday also started getting shipped with Raiden Makoto since the two plausibly could have met in Khaenri'ah. This ship allowed people to fulfill their want for an alternate universe Kiamei while still being able to align with canon lore and ship EiMiko alongside it.

Trivia[]
- The Herrscher of the Void and the Raiden Shogun have the same ability of walking through the air by making circular platforms below their feet. Asmoday displayed a similar ability as well, though her platform was less solid.
- The Herrscher of the Void's has many lines about inflicting judgement (most notably her ult), and the Raiden Shogun's character demo is named "Judgment of Euthymia."
