I... Like you... Ms. Angel.
—Sarah to Asmodeus

AsmoSarah is the femslash ship between Asmodeus and Sarah from the Make the Exorcist Fall in Love fandom.

Canon[]

Way before the present timeline, Asmodeus, demon lord of lust, progressively falls in love with a human girl named Sarah after having saved her. Even if the demon didn't put much thought into that simple act, the two soon become attached and slowly develop feelings for each other along their many meetings, until one day the time comes for the human to fulfill her filial duty.

Part 4[]

Turbulence[]

AsmodeusRemembers

Asmodeus as Aria remembers Sarah.

Asmodeus, disguised as a famous idol named Aria, is on her way to reclaim her dignity as the demon lord of lust by winning over the exorcist Mr. Priest. However, just as she manages to get close to him again to better make him fall, healing the traumas that she herself had caused, she's struck by a feeling of déjà vu, seeing in Mr. Priest's innocent soul the image of Sarah.

Second At-Bat[]

Sarah&AsmodeusVoice

Asmodeus likes to sing for Sarah.

During the day Mr. Priest accompanies her according to the rotation established with Imuri and Asmodeus thinks of Sarah again through flashbacks. First, there is a past vision of Sarah listening passionately to Asmodeus' singing, reputed to be magnificent, motivating the demon to persevere in pleasing her even if it means burning her throat. Second, she recalls her past mistakes regarding how her relationship with the human girl ended, mentioning that she intends to abuse Mr. Priest as proof of her past love.

Asmodeus[]

SarahConfession

Sarah's love confession.

Just as Asmodeus finally reveals her true nature to Mr. Priest, a flashback occurs through which her relationship with Sarah is explored according to the demon's perspective.

During ancient times, Sarah is at first a young girl whom she saves without really giving it much importance. Despite this, Sarah and she nevertheless continue to see each other on repeated occasions, and on these the human girl asks the demon she affectionately nicknames "Ms. Angel" to sing for her, gradually falling in love with the latter until finally confessing it and asking to marry her. Even though Asmodeus seems shaken by her statement, the latter replies that it is impossible for two women to marry and disappoints Sarah.

But on her side, after Sarah's departure for the day, Asmodeus is confronted with the flaws of her own life philosophy linked to the sin of lust when she recalls the human's confession. She hesitates to abuse and corrupt her like she usually does, however, without her being actively aware of it, her affection for Sarah is far too great to commit such an atrocity and she immediately categorically refuses to go to such an extreme, while still being deeply troubled by such an unusual behavior from her.

SarahStruggle

Sarah accepts to follow her duty.

After that first hesitation, several years pass without further development, and then one day Sarah gets her first period, the event prompting her parents to seek a suitor so she can fulfill her filial duties as an adult woman. The very night of the announcement, Sarah desperately confesses the news to Asmodeus while saying she unfortunately won't be able to marry the demon anymore now. Asmodeus, taking pity on her, retorts that there are other things to do than bear children or raise them and tries to convince Sarah that she shouldn't go with it if she doesn't want to, but without success however. Indeed, Sarah, even in despair, still doubts that she will find greater happiness by disobeying her duties as a woman, and asks Asmodeus in the same spirit if disobeying God has allowed the demon lord to achieve happiness. The latter being unable to give her a positive answer, the human woman confirms that she's the same and that she cannot disobey her own father.

SaraasuKiss

Sarah and Asmodeus almost kiss.

Despite this, seeking comfort in each other's presence, the two women then hesitate and embrace before they soon find themselves on the verge of kissing. An impossible thing given that at the last moment Asmodeus decides to seemlingly respect Sarah's choice and interrupts the latter as she's about to approach her lips, the two refraining their shared feelings for one last time before Sarah can marry the suitor her parents designated for her.

AsmodeusKills

Asmodeus kills Sarah's violent husband.

However, the wedding night in question goes horribly wrong and soon Sarah, on the verge of being sexually abused by the man she has just married, seems to inadvertently bite him when, between her tears, her feelings for Asmodeus return. And just as the man is preparing to retaliate by beating her, Asmodeus herself, who can no longer bear such violence against the object of her affection, decides to intervene by killing the rapist. Still, just as she's about to inflict the same fate to Sarah's parents who arrive in her rampage, Sarah begs her to stop, arguing that if the demon continues the young woman will have nowhere to live left. Asmodeus, torn by such a statement, decides to withdraw for the moment.

SarahStruggle2

Their relationship collapses.

Following this, Asmodeus unfortunately continues to kill all of Sarah's husbands, seven in total, to the point that the human becomes feared and avoided by all who approach her. Desperate about her condition, Sarah loses her temper and finally rages in tears against Asmodeus, shouting that she never needed her help and asking the demon why she's acting like this... Asmodeus, suffocated by the same question, answers nothing.

DoomedSaraasu

God intervenes; Sarah is wedded and Asmodeus is deeply injured.

In the end, God finally decides to intervene by sending the archangel Raphael to help a man chosen by God marry Sarah, before pursuing, chaining and seriously injuring Asmodeus until she's definitely ripped away from Sarah. As the latter's story reaches its resolution, Sarah gives a final, thoughtful farewell to Asmodeus as her new husband embraces her.

But for the demon, nothing seems over yet. While reforging her body into a monstrous and chimeric appearance, she wallows in her regrets to the point of wondering if she shouldn't have imposed herself on Sarah, as if to address the initial doubts she had, wondering if she had given to this idea, Sarah could have been hers.

If only I had forced myself on you... Would you have then become mine?

Emphasized again and again over the millennia, this phrase persists in Asmodeus's ideology until she finally sees in Mr. Priest's soul the image of Sarah, until she sees in him a way to have an answer to the question she's been asking herself for so long. To want to prove that in some way the rapist is not the only one taking pleasure from rape, as the victim is supposedly secretly begging for it to happen in her opinion.

AsmodeusUnderstands

Asmodeus understands what she wanted to see.

Omnipotent[]

But despite her manipulations, Mr. Priest repeatedly beats her once she reveals her intentions, eventually crushing her to the ground and strangling her. In that fateful moment, Asmodeus sees in the rapist that she is a reflection of the men who once tried to abuse Sarah. And as Mr. Priest as the image of Sarah rebels against her, she realizes that the question she'd been asking herself all along, the thing she really wanted to see, was something else entirely.

Sarah&Asmodeus(large)

Actually, she just wanted proof that Sarah wouldn't have accepted her forcing herself on her, she wanted to see her rebel against all those who had tried to abuse the young human, the demon herself included. To have the confirmation that never the young woman could have been hers like that.

Sunset[]

As the fight against Mr. Priest drags on until her complete annihilation, Asmodeus sees in the exorcist's relationship with Imuri a faint hope of what might have been possible between Sarah and her. If Imuri is able to be united in love with him, perhaps she could have too after all.

And on this last glimpse of light, she returns to hell and decides to put an end to her regrets, her heart broken, before finally saying goodbye to Sarah.

Bible[]

Their relationship is embedded within the Book of Tobit, also known as the Book of Tobias. A story considered as being part of the canon of the Ancient Testament by the Catholic church and written mainly in Greek between the 3rd and early 2nd century BC, though the events described in its content appear to be situated between the 9th and the 7th century BC.

The book describes the travel of Tobias, son of Tobit, as his father, overwhelmed by leukomas that are making him blind and praying to God to end his life (3:6), sends him to recover money deposited with a certain Gabael (4:1-2,20).

Raphael

Raphael neutralizes Asmodeus, from Jan Steen's "The Wedding of Tobias and Sarah" (1660)

Sarah, as mentioned in this story, is on her side pursued by the wicked demon Asmodeus who has fallen in love with her and kills her husband every night before they can have intercourse with her. Out of despair and falsely accused by the family's servant to kill them on her own, Sarah thinks of killing herself by hanging at first, before rather praying to God to end her life for fear of making her father Raguel sad (3:7-15). As her prayer, accompanied by that of Tobit, also reaches the heavens, God decides to finally send the powerful archangel Raphael to answer both (3:16-17).

Raphael, disguised as a human, then helps Tobit's son cross Media to bring him to Sarah at Ecbatana (5:4-17), where he confirms Tobias' right to marry her and gives him valuable advice on how to rid her of the demon possessing her (6:11-18). Following his advice, Tobias puts fish liver on the embers intended for incense and the odor drives Asmodeus away. Raphael, for his part, pursues and chains the latter hand and foot even to Egypt (8:1-3).

After successfuly having had intercourse with Sarah, Tobias, accompanied by her, comes back to his father's side after a final stop in Gabael's house (9:1-6), and then cures the leukoma of the older man thanks to another advice from Raphael (10:7-11). The father praises God for this miracle and soon Sarah and Tobias have an official wedding ceremony with the latter's family (11:17-18). It is said at the end of the story that after his mother's death, Tobias comes back with Sarah in Ecbatana where he lives until reaching the age of 117 years (14:12-15).

Fanon[]

AsmoSarah is a rather discreet ship in the fandom but is still appreciated by a few accounts on Twitter/AO3. Despite being way less popular than Danverge and Priestmuri, it indeed remains the third most written ship on AO3 for now.

Trivia[]

  • The artwork Aria commissioned from Imuri for her concert seems to be an interpretation of her own past relationship with Sarah.
