- Tree – “Black Hole, you're our only flying contestant. You have to fly in there and pull Puffball out!”
- Black Hole – “If you say so.”
- — Gardening Zero
Astrobiology is the slash ship between Tree and Black Hole from the Battle for Dream Island fandom.
Canon[]
BFB[]
Tree tells Black Hole to do 'the thing", which is sucking up the top halves of the jawbreakers.
Tree asks Black Hole if he can spin their swing, but Black Hole says that he can't push anything, but he can pull like there's no tomorrow. Remote says he's wrong as there is a tomorrow, to which Black Hole replies that he can literally slow down time so that there is no tomorrow. Tree says not to do that and to just do their 'pully-attracty' stuff.
Tree gets mad at Pen for trying to use Black Hole to win the challenge. Tree reads a book on what to do if you have a problem, which said to ask Black Hole. Tree asks Black Hole if he can draw, and Black Hole says he can't, but can form an accretion disk.
When Tree, Bottle, Pillow and Pen are blocking the forks, Tree says that Black Hole can suck them up.
When Black Hole says "And that's how you prevent death! Simple as that.", Tree is reminded to recover Pie for the challenge.
Black Hole tells his team he's disappointed in all of them, including Tree, for going to the spikes of the Evil Canyon, where they could easily die, along with how none of them seemed to care that Pillow 'died'.
Tree says that if Pillow was killed, they should go recover her, and Black Hole agrees.
Tree asks Black Hole if he thinks they're wasting their time as they could be leaving already, and Black Hole says they can just take their time while pointing out how happy Remote is, which annoys Tree, because he said he would rather be in the sun than in The Fourest.
The Power of Two (TPOT)[]
When Tree says that they just took Pen into their team, Black Hole says that he remembers that. When Remote, Fanny, Marker, and Tree got up on the roof, Remote grabbed Tree to call out to Black Hole, but they forget that Black Hole has a bad hearing. Tree said not to worry because he had a megaphone with him through which he could call out to Black Hole, but unsuccessfully drops it right into him. This made Tree angry with words that it would have been better if the megaphone landed next to Black Hole instead of in him and he would have paid attention then. Instead of the megaphone, Tree drops Remote’s battery right next to Black Hole, who paid attention and realized from Tree's gestures that he should fly up.
Tree looks at Black Hole angrily when he sucks up all their blocks.
After Pen stops Black Hole from sucking up his team's blocks, the first thing Black Hole wants to do is tell them about what happened, but Tree interrupts saying that Teardrop ruined their stack.
After Teardrop killed almost everyone on Death P.A.C.T. Again and Black Hole accidentally killed Teardrop, Black Hole frantically tells Tree that they need to recover everyone. Tree tries to ask what happened, but Black Hole just said there was no time. Tree shrugged and went to go recover everyone with Black Hole.
When Black Hole said they'd hoped Pillow would stop killing, Tree questions how he kept the optimism the whole time, which indicates that he lost hope that Pillow would stop.
Tree tells his team that they should steal more blocks, and Black Hole asks why. Tree replies saying they don't have very many, and Black Hole says they have enough, they don't need to be the tallest, they just need to make sure they aren't the shortest. Tree tells him that's an efficient way of looking at it, and Black Hole says it's the normal way of looking at it, because it's a fact, to which Tree gives a slightly annoyed look.
Due to all the deaths caused by Two's blocks, Tree said they might forfeit the challenge on purpose to focus on preventing death, and Black Hole and Marker agree.
When Tree was bouncing on the landing pad they made, Black Hole tells him to stop and that he's treating it like some sort of amusement park attraction.
When Marker faints onto the landing pad, Tree turns to Black Hole and says that they'll consider that as Marker's save a death prevention.
Tree tells Black Hole to pull Puffball out of their castle since he's their only flying contestant. Black Hole isn't able to get very close and decides to stop as he could've killed Puffball. Tree says that Black Hole is right and questions how they could've lost sight of their main mission, preventing death.
Black Hole says that a contestant life is more important than a plant life and says they're gonna have to kill their plant to save Ice Cube, and Tree agrees.
Tree says that Gelatin's Steakhouse looks pretty run-down, and Black Hole said that Gelatin moving on to other chains left that one slightly abandoned.
Black Hole asked Tree if he'd found anything to revive the fish, to which Tree responds by saying nothing in terms of a revival machine.
Tree is about to respond to what Lightning was going to say, however he was interrupted by Black Hole.
As Tree is getting dragged away by Fanny and Pillow, he tells Black Hole to suck him up. Black Hole points out that he would die anyway if he sucked Tree up, and Tree says to stop when he's about to suck him up and to get him away from 'these murderers' (Fanny and Pillow). Black Hole is unsure on whether to do it or not, but in the end he decides to do it and accidentally kills Tree by sucking up his head.
Black Hole asks Fanny to bring Tree back, but for unknown reasons he won't come out of the Recovery Center, which makes Black Hole worry about him and even appeals to Two, but even so to no avail. As it later turns out, Tree was on Goiky Canal the whole time and Black Hole immediately reacts and flies to him to find out what happened. Golf Ball starts beating up Tree and Black Hole tells her that even if it's not death, he'd rather his friend not get beat up either. At the threats that Tree is going to be killed, Black Hole tried to hide the fact that he is worried about it, but no one is buying it and Black Hole asks the others to help him save Tree. Tree asks Black Hole about whether they could chop him down and return him to his former body, to which Black Hole replies that he has a duty to prevent deaths no matter the cost.
Tree, huger than last time, notices a zombified Rubber Spatula and Onigiri coming to the spot where he's rooted, which is also where the team took refuge from the infection. A frightened Tree tells Black Hole to stop them, specifically to suck them up, but the latter is reluctant to do so as they're "undead."
When Marker suggests that they simply move Tree, Black Hole tells him that the idea is ludicrous due to Tree's large size, to which Tree looks down at himself with a despondent look.
Black Hole comes up with the idea to gather some form of protection as the zombies get closer to Tree. Black Hole goes to Cloudy's collection, which is also where he encounters The S!. He explains to Bottle that he needs the stash specifically to protect Tree, and that if he doesn't take it, he would die.
Blak Hole uses the entirety of Cloudy's collection to save Tree, first by shooing the zombified objects away and then dropping them to create a barrier, to which the zombified Rubber Spatula and Onigiri avoid easily. Although Tree thinks that they're doomed now, Black Hole assures him that climbing the huge tower would take a long time for the infected.
When Tree is hit by a giant, zombified Snowball twice, Tree tells Black Hole to stop it as Black Hole does not hesitate to use his gravitational pull for Snowball to hit a burning Gelatin's Steakhouse instead. Black Hole tells Tree that they're safe for now, to which Tree smiles in response. Black Hole chuckles with glee as he mentions to Tree that they're lucky that they caused no death or danger.
In TPOT 12, despite the team swap, the two remained together on a same group alongside Fanny and Marker. When Tree is trapped on glue by other team after being caught throwing Eraser inside his team's pothole, he mentions that at least Black Hole and Marker were heading off to collect something giant for their pit.
In TPOT 13, Black Hole and Fanny explain to Tree and Marker that Death P.A.C.T. Yet Again’s focus has adjusted—preventing death when possible but prioritizing keeping teammates alive.
In TPOT 14, Death P.A.C.T. Yet Again are seen facing an unfamiliar plant, and when this one slams Tree into the ground, the impact creates deep cracks beneath them, and Black Hole, realizing the imminent danger, swiftly gathers everyone to safety just as the ground collapses, taking the plant with it. In the chaos, Black Hole ends up losing Tree, and the flag is also lost. Near the end, a massive tussle begins between teams, and after Pencil kills Marker, Tree immediately intervenes to slap her quickly multiple times and let her be absorbed afterwards inside Black Hole.
In TPOT 16, during the start of the challenge, Tree is rushing with Marker and Black Hole to a hiding place, but this latter stays behind much to Tree's worry. However, Black Hole explains him that he was going to look for the crack on the sky as long as he could, while reassuring to not worry about him. Tree smiles as he continues on his way with the team.
In TPOT 19, after the next challenge is announced (a "battle royale", where contestants must fight to be the last one standing and he first two teams to lose all their members will be put up for elimination), Fanny, Marker, and Tree approach Black Hole, who is still focused on containing the massive crack in the sky. Tree takes out a megaphone from the lounge to ask if he's coming with them, but Black Hole replies that the crack is more important.
Fanon[]
Astrobiology is a popular ship in the Battle for Dream Island fandom. It's popular because out of everyone on Death P.A.C.T/Again, these two are the most focused on preventing death. The ship also gains a following from how close the two have been throughout the series 5th season, The Power of Two. It's the most popular ship for both Black Hole and Tree. There are however rivals close in popularity like Blackmote (Black Hole x Remote) and Treemote (Tree x Remote). More rivalry ships include Tren (Tree x Pen), BlackPen (Black Hole x Pen), FanTree (Fanny x Tree) and Trarker (Tree x Marker).
Like with the rest of Object Show's ships, some fan arts depict them in humanized forms, either giving them resemblances of their inanimate counterparts, or outright only giving them human bodies. In terms of physical contact, most fans prefer to defy the laws of physics and somehow manage to pair the two together, without having Tree absorbed inside Black Hole's dark matter. However, it's more usual to see Black Hole and Tree depicted in their object forms while respecting the physics, but still share affection through words.
Astrobiology remains as the most written ship for both characters on AO3, having 150 works created as of August 2025, the pairing being placed 6th overall the rest of Battle for Dream Island ships.
