DANCING QUEEN
Ray is waiting in the car for the other Legends, when The Smell all pile into the van as the cops arise. The lead singer tells him to drive, and he quickly gets the car going. Once they end up back at their place, the lead singer that the suit can't fool them. He's a punk, since he drove on the wrong side of the road the whole time, something Ray didn't even realize. She gives him a handshake, and the band all pile out. He tells Sara where he is, but she tells him that he will be the one sticking with the band.
He knocks on the door, and the lead singer opens it. She asks if they left something in the van, and Ray says that he was wondering if he could hang with them, trying to pass himself off as punk. The lead says she didn't catch his name, and he says it's "Ray...ge". She says she'd like to see him rayge, and introduces herself as Charlie before inviting him in. The band them convinces him to help with stealing one of the Queen's dogs, which they're all amazed when he (with the help of Sara) are able to do it.
As they see the story on TV, Charlie tells him to get to the table. He sits, and she says it will only hurt for a minute. Ray is confused, and they explain that after their first prank, they get a tattoo. Ray is hesitant, but Charlie decides to explain it to them. To them the tattoo's are a statement, that sometimes you have to do bad things for good reasons and asks if he's in. Ray goes for it, and Charlie tells him that the corgi was just for a laugh, and they plan to make the queen hand over her jewels. Ray asks how and Charlie says to leave it to her. Saying she'll work her own magic and gives him a wink.
After checking in with Mick, Ray returns to The Smell, only for them to confront him about a past mission where he had to disguise himself as a disco star. Charlie tells them all to shut it, and that they can't judge Ray for his past given all of theirs. She doesn't care about his past, just who he wants to be now. She then takes Ray aside and gives him a mixtape of punk music. He thanks her for saving him and she says the others can really be the punk police sometimes. He admits that his name is actually just Ray, and she says she likes it. She asks what happened to his old crew, and he basically tells it without all the details. He asks how long she was in lock up and she says it was long enough to know she's not going back. He asks why and she says people got scared, turning to law and order for a justification. He says that it seems a lot for mischief and she says she wasn't locked up for that. She asks if he can handle the truth and he says to try him. She then shapeshifts into several people. She's amazed he's not freaked out and he admits he finds it astonishing. He asks how she chooses who she wants to be, and she says she chose her current face from a model whose smile she liked. Ray says it much be hard to change and she says that's why she holds tight to her beliefs or she'd lose herself. He says she's cool and she says that she wished the humans who threw her away saw her that way. Instead all they saw was magic and panicked. He says he's sorry and she says that he's one of the good ones.
Ray then calls the Legends and says they're dealing with a shapeshifter, and suggests he just convince Charlie not to do the act so that she doesn't go back to hell. John says that shapeshifters are manipulators who cause terror, but Ray says she's not doing any of that. She's not hurting anyone. Mick says they'll work it out and ends the call. They then come to the hideout and Ray sees them. He then asks Charlie if he trust her, and she says yeah. He tells her they have to leave, since his friends don't trust his judgement. Charlie asks who he really is, and Ray admits that he was sent there to send her back to hell. She grabs a bottle ready to knock him out, but Ray promises that he won't send her back. He then takes his suit and puts it on, intending to defend her against the Legends.
Ray then attacks the Legends, only for it to be revealed to actually be Charlie who stole Ray's suit. He asks her not to hurt them, but Charlie's not taking the chance. Ray voice disassembles the suit and Charlie returns to herself. Sara then has Zari hold her against the wall, but Ray says that they don't have to send her back. Sara says that she tried to kill them, and Ray says any of them would have done the same in her situation. John then opens a portal to hell, and Charlie transforms to look like Amaya to convince them not to.
Charlie is then taken to the ship and placed in the holding cell. Ray says they can't keep her locked in there forever, and after an argument, they're still not sure what to do. Ray and Mick then come down and watch her, Charlie yelling that they should stop staring and pour her a drink. Ray comments that Charlie's nothing like Amaya and Mick agrees, but he does like her.

Atomshifter is a rarepair within the Legends fandom. There was some initial interest in the ship, but it died down after their first episode. Mostly due to their lack of interactions. As well as Ray being given his own love interest during season 4. On AO3, there is currently one written work.
