Aurora is a character from the Sleeping Beauty fandom.
Character[]
Aurora is the titular "sleeping beauty". As an infant, she was cursed to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die. Three kind fairies take pity on her, and take her to a cottage in the woods to raise as their own. On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, Aurora meets a handsome stranger in the forest. She falls quickly in love, but is told by the fairies that she must return to the castle to be wed to a Prince. When Aurora eventually does prick her finger, she falls into a deep sleep. Prince Phillip, the boy from the forest, rides to her rescue and kisses her awake.
What sets Aurora apart from other Disney princesses is that she embodies the "fairytale princess" the most, even when dressed in plain peasant clothes, she still acts like a princess is expected to act. This leads to Prince Phillip falling for her without either of them knowing that they are already arranged to be married anyway.

Trivia[]
- In the Perrault version of the Sleeping Beauty fairytale, "Aurora" was the name given to the daughter of the titular princess. When Piotr Tchaikovsky adapted the fairytale into a ballet, he gave the name "Aurora" to the titular princess instead. However, when it came to Disney adapting the story, they had two possible names for her to choose from: Aurora and "Briar Rose" after the Brothers Grimm version of the same name. So they chose a compromise: "Aurora" is her real name, "Briar Rose" (or just "Rose") is what the fairies call her to hide her from Maleficent.
- Once Upon A Time would play with this for a bit, Aurora remains Aurora, but the name "Briar Rose" is given to her mother, who was given the proper name "Queen Leah" in the Disney movie. This implies that Leah/Briar Rose is the original Sleeping Beauty, naming her daughter Aurora like in the Perrault version.
