- Aventurine – “A topaz? What is this doing here… Uhh…”
- Future Aventurine – “What, does her cornerstone wrench at your heart so?”
- Aventurine – “…I was merely curious why it was here.”
- Future Aventurine – “Maybe that winged guy put it here to taunt you. Just to make you realize your painstakingly arranged magic show is nothing but a death rattle.”
- — Aventurine and his future self conversing after stumbling upon Topaz’s cornerstone in All the Sad Tales
Avenpaz is the het ship between Aventurine and Topaz from the Honkai: Star Rail fandom.
Canon[]
Topaz and Aventurine are both high-ranking members of the Ten Stonehearts. As colleagues, they frequently collaborate on projects, with Topaz specializing in tracking down debtors and Aventurine focusing on collecting the debts. Despite their shared goals, their approaches to business are notably different. Topaz is known for her cautious and considerate methods, ensuring meticulous handling of each situation. Aventurine, on the other hand, embraces a "high-risk, high-reward" strategy, often relying on his remarkable luck in dangerous scenarios to secure deals.
Their dynamic is first showcased in the Lightcone, Trend of the Universal Market. In this, Aventurine is seen in the background, smiling at Topaz as they presumably prepare to embark on their next IPC project together. This shows a hint of their professional relationship and of the complementary nature of their skills —Topaz's prudence balanced by Aventurine's boldness.
1.4[]
Topaz and Aventurine's first verbal canon interaction occurs in Patch 1.4. Following a phone call where Topaz is demoted due to her actions on Jarilo-VI, Aventurine stays on the line with her. Once Aventurine turns off the voice changer, Topaz faintly smiles to herself, despite the slight annoyance in her voice, hinting at their relaxed camaraderie. Aventurine teases her about being her boss now.
During this conversation, Aventurine comments that Jarilo-VI was a high-risk, low-reward case and questions why she bothered to take it on. He then warns her that her kind heart can be more of a liability than an asset, showing his concern for her potentially reckless compassion. After some more banter, Aventurine asks Topaz to be his Project Manager for the department's next big deal — Penacony — demonstrating his trust in her abilities despite her recent "blunder." He refers to her as "old friend" at the end of the call.
Topaz, after some hesitation, informs Aventurine that she will get back to him later about her answer.
2.1[]
In Patch 2.1, it is revealed that Topaz accepted Aventurine's proposal to be his Project Manager for Penacony. The Trailblazer encounters her in the lobby of The Reverie, where Topaz mentions that Aventurine has "told her a lot about their happenings," indicating that they have been in regular contact during Aventurine's time in Penacony. Playfully, she asks the Trailblazer how it feels to be in business with Aventurine, acknowledging his eccentric and risky nature.
From Aventurine's perspective during the quest, it is revealed that he took Topaz's Cornerstone with him for his plan in Penacony. Dr. Ratio has noted that Cornerstones are "more important than their lives," implying that Topaz trusts Aventurine deeply. Later, as Aventurine approaches the stage of his "death," he comes across Topaz's Cornerstone. This discovery seems to distress him, and his future self taunts, "What, does her cornerstone wrench at your heart so?" Aventurine stiffly responds that he was merely curious why it was there, though he sounds pained. The illusion of the cornerstone fades away, as do the other memories he encounters.
After Aventurine 'dies' at the hand of the Emanator of Nihility, Acheron, Topaz is the first voice heard upon returning to reality. In a quiet tone, she says, "The light of the aventurine stone has... disappeared," and adds, "This only represents one outcome." This scene suggests that Topaz possesses a fragment of Aventurine's shattered Cornerstone, which he broke into pieces to hide from Sunday and protect his plan. Without a piece of his stone, it is unclear how Topaz knew that its light had gone out, as Aventurine had the stone with him and crushed what was left of it before the fight with the Astral Express members and Acheron. It is later confirmed that Topaz did indeed have the last fragment of the aventurine stone, as she offers it to restore his Cornerstone during Aventurine's trial for punishment.
2.2[]
In the 2.2 Trailblaze Mission, near the end of the quest, when everyone in Penacony is still within the Order's ideal 'Dream,' Aventurine and Topaz can be found conversing. Aventurine directs Topaz to explain the situation, saying, "Of course. Topaz, if you please." She responds confidently, "Sure, leave it to me."
2.3[]
In the 2.3 Trailblaze Mission, when Topaz is aboard the Radiant Feldspar with her superior, Jade, to hold negotiations for the future of Penacony, Topaz angrily mentions Aventurine's 'death,' saying, "One of our P45 executives was attacked and nearly killed in the Dreamscape." After this encounter with Oti, Jade offhandedly mentions to Topaz, "Aventurine initiated this case, and you were his project partner." Confirming they have been working on the Penacony project together since their call in 1.4, where he asked her to join him. Then, Jade points out that the Penacony project is too bland for Topaz, and Topaz replies that she wouldn't have joined if it hadn't been for Aventurine asking for her to do so.
Jade: "Well, that's obvious, but what I truly wanted to know is: This project is obviously too bland for your taste, isn't it?"
Topaz: "That's true. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for Aventurine."
Jade: "But despite that, you trust him. You even entrusted him with a Cornerstone, something as precious as life itself, to finish this gamble."
Checking Out Adventure Quest[]
After the 2.3 Trailblaze Mission, an Adventure quest is available titled Checking Out where Aventurine and Topaz are encountered together. They are seen playfully bantering about the stock market as well as their IPC business and previous projects together, and notably, they are familiar with each other and their methods of work to do so. She notes that he has few people working under him; he claims that results matter more, and that is just her excuse for 'failure.' It continues on with her claiming he's trying to 'trick' her, and reminds him that her success rate is still higher than his, even after Penacony. He responds that he never expected the kind-hearted Director Topaz to resort to distorting concepts like that, knowing her compassionate heart is a liability, he then tells her look deep into your heart, will you? and teases her about how difficult his projects are. As a quip, she explains how he once sent her an analysis on the Epsilon stock exchange market, assuring her it was a promising investment, only for it to completely fail the next day; he defends himself by saying it wasn't intentional, and that it was one of her old friends that he got the source from. Then the conversation goes into his endless "luck" and she teases him about his flexible standards, calling him "Director Aventurine ~ "
Jade then interrupts, and though she and the Trailblazer are there, Aventurine and Topaz continue their banter. She tells him if he wants to talk like that in public, he needs to mind where he is and who is around, to which he echoes the same to her. When Topaz goes to check out of her hotel room, Aventurine cuts in, saying he should go first because he arrived first. She teases him about having made a full recovery from his slash of Nihility, joking that "it's a pity ~ " and he replies that arguing with her is part of his rehab, calling her "Director Topaz ~ "
Jade Character Story IV[]
"As I anticipated, Opal chose you to handle the Penacony case, but it seems... you've found a new ally."
In Jade's Character Story IV, Aventurine and Topaz visit Jade to make a deal for her Cornerstone for their mission on Penacony. Aventurine, accompanied by his Project Manager and ally, Topaz, states the purpose of their visit. Jade then asks what they will offer in return. They respond by proposing an exchange of their Cornerstones for hers, in addition with Aventurine's life.
"Our Cornerstones," the young lady replied.
Aventurine and Topaz then place their Cornerstones on the scale, opposite of a miniature scale model of Penacony. After Jade adds hers to accept their offer ( of what is essentially their lives ) the scale tips completely. Paired together, the aventurine and topaz Cornerstones prove sufficient to negotiate for the jade one.
"Each of us has our own beginnings and endings." The topaz stone was placed on the other end of the scale. ( ... ) The aventurine stone followed.
Myriad Celestia Trailer: Stoneheart's Oath Ring: Both Ends of the Scale[]
After Penacony, it is shown in a video that Topaz defends Aventurine first when his punishment is being discussed for breaking his Cornerstone, which all the Stonehearts swore to value as highly as their lives. She is also the first vote to keep him in the Stonehearts.
Sugilite: "Death? This kind of unnecessary extravagance was just for yourself, wasn't it?"
Topaz: "Sugilite, please don't ignore the facts and just assume things."
Fanon[]
Avenpaz is Aventurine's most popular het ship, and Topaz's most popular ship overall.
Aventurine's first ever ship was established with his earliest ship fic being posted under the Aventurine/Topaz tag on AO3 in October 2023. This also marked the rise of Avenpaz as Topaz's most prominent ship, as she had very few fics at the time. The initial fics were inspired by the phone call in update 1.4 following Topaz's demotion and their shared Lightcone. Their ship began with this interaction, and around this time, Avenpaz fan art also started to emerge. The ship gained significant popularity after update 2.1, which revealed more hints of the close bond between the two characters.
As for their relationship, most shippers see them as coworkers with benefits, due to the teasing nature of Aventurine with her, and Topaz's reluctant attitude but willingness to accompany him for his work. This also comes from her small smile when she hears it is his voice on the phone call after her demotion. They also possess paired BattlePass icons, depicting them practicing their shooting together, which fans see as them being close and often training to improve their trust and confidence in each other.
It is also acknowledged by most Avenpaz shippers that Aventurine feels deeper feelings for Topaz, as expressed by his apparent heartache at seeing her Cornerstone in the 2.1 story quest. Many also see them as caring and supportive of each other, as both of their voicelines imply they have worked with each other for a while and earned each other's trust, enough that they can rely on one another. This is also encouraged by the fact that Aventurine was the only one to stay on the call after her demotion in 1.4, and seemed to worry about her kindness being a liability that could ruin her. Added onto the fact that he trusted her enough to then ask her to be his Project Manager for Penacony, despite her "failure" on Jarilo-VI.
Some also see them as potentially tragic, as Aventurine is willing to throw his life away, to "risk it all," while Topaz is the more cautious and concerned type, not wanting him to gamble his life. Their clashing personalities lean into the enemies-to-lovers, trope, with their care and affection for each other usually being hidden, and their feelings in denial. Some also see them as softer, only able to relax and be comfortable around one another due to their similar situations in the Company.
Another notable connection is their pasts, with both of them having grown up on planets that were miserable to live on. Terrible circumstances led them to being recruited into the IPC, with Aventurine seeking to escape from his death sentence after killing his former master, and Topaz wanting to get off of the polluted and sick planet that was her homeworld. This is often seen as a bonding relation between the two, as they were essentially forced into their positions as Stonehearts by fate, with Aventurine using his endless "luck" to do so, and Topaz rising quickly in the ranks with her kind and compassionate approach to the IPC's usually heartless dealings.
Topaz and Aventurine share a comfortable camaraderie, bantering easily even in the presence of the Trailblazer and their superior. Their competitive spirits complement each other, with both displaying strong ambition in their own unique ways. Topaz is adept at handling Aventurine's teasing comments, often responding with her own witty retorts. This dynamic reveals their extensive collaboration and the intimate understanding they've developed over time.
Despite their evident closeness, both Topaz and Aventurine are in denial about the depth of their bond. When Aventurine is teased with the line, "Does her Cornerstone wrench at your heart so?" he quickly dismisses it, trying to downplay his feelings. Similarly, Topaz brushes off Jade's observations about how much she trusts Aventurine, despite having entrusted him with a Cornerstone —something as precious as life itself. Their interactions reveal a strong connection that both are reluctant to fully acknowledge, masking their true feelings behind a façade of casual banter and competitive spirit. This denial mirrors their behavior, as they consistently deflect any serious implications about their relationship, maintaining a veneer of professionalism and rivalry while deeply valuing each other's presence and support. In many ways, they are mirrors to each other, reflecting the same ambition, competitive nature, and underlying vulnerability.
In the Stonehearts, it is uncommon for two individuals to consistently collaborate, as their competitive nature often leads them to pursue solo endeavors, and most do not want or need an ally. However, Topaz and Aventurine defy this norm. Despite their fiercely independent spirits, they repeatedly choose to work together, forming a unique and effective partnership. Their collaboration is marked by a deep mutual trust and an ability to complement each other's strengths, making their teamwork exceptional; how they handled the Penacony project over the long-term is an example of this, with Topaz giving him her Cornerstone and trusting him to succeed, and Aventurine honoring her trust and not only winning Penacony, but living despite the odds against him, and knowing she could handle the aftermath of it in his place.
Topaz often tries to keep a straight face with Aventurine, but she frequently succumbs to his teasing and banter, usually ending up smiling during their interactions. This dynamic is evident in the 1.4 phone call, where she smiles after he turns off the voice changer to ask how she is and to request her as his project partner. It is also seen in the 2.3 Checking Out adventure quest, where a conversation about their past work experiences causes her to shift from pouting to smiling. These moments reveal that she is quite fond of him and finds it difficult to stay upset with him for long.
A call in gambling means to match the bet of another player, so when Aventurine bet his life, Topaz effectively did the same by entrusting her cornerstone to him. In 2.1, when Aventurine was in a difficult situation, he had a hallucination and saw the topaz cornerstone. This symbolized that because Aventurine had risked his life, Topaz was also risking hers, which contributed to his suffering.
By offering their Cornerstones, as shown in Jade's Character Story IV, Aventurine and Topaz essentially bet their lives together. This act showed the deep trust and reliance they have on one another. Their willingness to risk such important parts of themselves, despite their different methods of dealing with work. It emphasizes their commitment to their mission and to each other, showing just how well they pair together.
It is shown in the Myriad Celestia Trailer: Stoneheart's Oath Ring: Both Ends of the Scale video that Topaz is willing to quickly come to Aventurine's defense, even when the odds are stacked against him. Fans also appreciate the fact that she voted first to keep him in the Stonehearts, which shows how much she cares for him and also respects his work methods, despite them not perfectly aligning with her own, because in spite of him throwing himself into such a dangerous gamble, he still succeeded in the end.
As of August 2024, it is currently Honkai: Star Rail's highest rated het ship on Lofter and the 11th highest rated ship overall, with 3.15 million browses and 5000+ followers.

- There is a chance at the start of battle for either of them to say similar lines. Aventurine's is; "High stakes, high reward" and Topaz's is "Low risk, high reward."
- Aventurine has an Eidolon called Stag Hunt Game, which is a game theory concept that describes a situation where two individuals can either collaborate for a risky mutual benefit or act independently for personal gain, but lower payoff. Fans of the ship believe his E6 is actually a reference to his relationship with Topaz. There are currently two cases of the game showing this:
- Before their endeavor on Penacony, when both of them offered their Cornerstones to gain Jade's in order to secure their plan for their project.
- In the Checking Out adventure quest when Aventurine mentions the stock market and how he was hoping Topaz would pitch in so they could win and profit together.
- Also, Topaz's real name, Jelena, is a Slavic name that comes from the Slavic word "jelen" ( or "jeleń" in Polish specifically ) which means deer, or stag.
- Topaz has an Eidolon called Seize the Big and Free the Small, which also loosely follows the same concept of Stag Hunt Game.
- A character's E6 is also implied to be them in their most vulnerable state, so Aventurine's Stag Hunt Game referencing Topaz could be seen as him being his most true self only with her.
- In an animation created by Hoyoverse, Aventurine can be seen waking up with three cat-cakes in his bedroom. This matches with Topaz's Lightcone picture, where she can be seen playing with three cat-like creatures. It shows that they both enjoy owning pets.

- In the Dreampeek call, Topaz has also mentioned having three Vonwacq baby lizards to feed.
- Topaz has a sticker referencing Aventurine's follow-up attack animation where she is snapping her fingers as he does; Aventurine has a sticker holding out a glass, like Topaz does as a pose in her character trailer video.
- Aventurine and Topaz are both shown to be skilled in identical coin tricks, as they flip and twirl their coins in the same manner.
- In the 2.1 story quest, when Sunday opens the box where Topaz's Cornerstone is meant to be and shows that it is missing - Aventurine visibly panics, and an anxious heartbeat sound can be heard. He is then relaxed and reassured after he sees that her stone is safe and intact once Sunday reveals it.
- Honkai: Star Rail held an official collaboration with China Citic Bank for debit cards based on Aventurine and Topaz.
- This is the promotional video for it posted on 08/08/2024.
- They are sitting on a custom sofa together.
- They have matching slot machine borders in one of the promotional images.
- In the video, they are said to be teaching a money management class together. So far, we have only heard of Topaz teaching classes. This would be Aventurine's noted first time teaching a class, and it is with her.
- They both shared advices on how to save money, with Aventurine giving unrealistic advices to 'save billions of credits every year' and Topaz giving actually useful advice to 'not spend money on necessary items' like SoulGlad.
- This is the promotional video for it posted on 08/08/2024.
- In an illustration that Hoyoverse posted on their Twitter, Topaz can be seen reacting to a video of Aventurine dancing to "White Night." She says, "A-Aventurine? Is this a part of the plan too?" This is in reference to their collaborative effort on the Penacony project.
- Hoyoverse released a Valentine's movie poster titled "Gemstone Lover," featuring Aventurine and a mysterious red-haired woman in the background. Avenpaz shippers see that this imagery strongly hints at a reference to Topaz. The plot revolves around Aventurine losing his memories and embarking on a quest to find his lost lover.
- Several clues in the poster support this theory:
- The woman's design incorporates elements found on Topaz's attire, including specific patterns and details, and her red hair and gold accents resembles the red streaks and gold accessories in Topaz's hair/clothes.
- The woman is depicted on a King card. In Hoyoverse's media, Topaz is often portrayed as the Queen on cards, such as on Bilibili video No.398, suggesting a connection.
- The poster features the inscription "RVII," translating to R-52 in medical terms, which denotes unspecified pain. This correlates with "future" Aventurine's line about Topaz's cornerstone during the 2.1 quest, where Aventurine's confused emotions were implicated as his "heart was ripped and his lungs were broken."
- Several clues in the poster support this theory:
- In Boothill's character trailer, Aventurine and Topaz can be seen across from each other before Boothill breaks in.
- In Aventurine’s character trailer, there is a scene where he opens a box to reveal a diamond that is a very similar color to Topaz’s Cornerstone. Topaz also features diamond motifs on her attire and Skill icon, as does Aventurine in his Ultimate icon.
- In a promotional video for Jiaoqiu, there is a scene featuring Aventurine and Topaz eating hotpot alone together:
- According to Jade, they can argue with each other without any reason, thus seeked help from Jiaoqiu to calm them down.
- Their dialogue is essentially lifted from the Checking Out questline, beginning with Topaz ranting to Aventurine about how the stock market crashed on the second day of their investment.
- Jade occasionally interrupts them to ask what they want to order, as Jiaoqiu's advice suggested that a good hotpot might help resolve their argument.
- Amidst all the chaos, they only managed to agree on one thing: ordering rice for the hotpot.
- They seem to be ordering food for themselves and each other, with Topaz ordering 3 live rainbow abalones for presumably herself, Numby and Aventurine, and Aventurine answering Jade for both himself and Topaz when she asked if they both eat leopard coral groupers.
- Jade occasionally interrupts them to ask what they want to order, as Jiaoqiu's advice suggested that a good hotpot might help resolve their argument.
- Aboard the Radiant Feldspar, after entering the space Jade had used as her pawnshop, the player can try "inviting their friends from the IPC!" which then calls Aventurine and Topaz, who both coincidentally happen to be in a meeting together, and their phones set on Do Not Disturb. Neither of them answer, and the calls are immediately ended.
- They are both featured in the web event Lady Bonajade Handbook as the Trailblazer's third and fourth customer, presumably called in by Jade to teach the Trailblazer to bargain.
- Jade mentions that the Trailblazer is 'just as fun as the kids described them to be', implying that most information about the Trailblazer was shared by Topaz and Aventurine, as both of them had dealt with the Trailblazer in person.
- There are numerous official Hoyoverse Bilibili videos where Aventurine and Topaz are shown together, such as; No.378, No.396, No.398, No.508, No.520, No.712 and a promotional video during Aventurine’s banner (No.371).
- In a post by Hoyoverse, Aventurine and Topaz can be seen in the background, posing in the same positions as they do in the Lightcone they are both featured in, Trend of the Universal Market.
- There is a magazine issue about the IPC, featuring Topaz and Aventurine's emotes paired together.
- In one of Jade's texts to the Trailblazer, she mentions that both Aventurine's and Topaz's definitions of happiness have changed over time, and now differ from what they used to be, but on "what makes a child happy?" their opinions are the same on the matter.
- A gift that Topaz once received - an extremely high quality sapphire, matches identically to the colors of Aventurine's earring when he says, "take me away," in Hoyoverse's White Night music video.
- In the Myriad Celestia Trailer: Stoneheart's Oath Ring: Both Ends of the Scale video by Hoyoverse, Topaz is shown to vote first to keep Aventurine from punishment after destroying his Cornerstone in Penacony. She defends him without hesitation.
- They also share matching outfits in a panel, where Aventurine is shown wearing gold rather than his normal green, which goes with Topaz's outfit.
- It is confirmed in this trailer that Topaz had been holding on to the broken fragment of the aventurine stone, waiting to restore it once the time came to do so.
- During the scene in the trailer when all the Stonehearts are ascending toward the throne, Topaz can be spotted glancing back at Aventurine, and he can also be seen looking in her direction. It could alternatively be taken as Topaz is waiting for Aventurine to catch up to her.
- In the scene where all the Cornerstones are showed off together, the aventurine and topaz stones are beside one another.
- The aventurine and topaz stone share the same faceted, oval cutting. In real life, aventurine is unsuitable to be cut in such a way due to their translucent to opaque nature, as opposed to topaz, which is more suitable due to their more transparent nature.
- Topaz's CN voiceline about Aventurine joining the team, "哎?这次跟你一起行动…也好,就当互相有个照应吧 ," can be translated as: “Huh? Are we working together again…. That’s fine. It’s good to have someone to take care of each other.” The term “照应” carries the meanings of both “to cooperate” and “to take care of," a term that implies affection.
- During the 1.4 call following Topaz's demotion, Aventurine inquired about her attitude by saying "what do you say?" in the English text. However, in the Chinese text, he used the idiom "非你莫属," which translates to "no one but you" in a declarative tone, about asking her to be his Project Manager for Penacony. So to him, it could be "no one but her," to manage the project on his behalf.
- The original Chinese text in 2.1 for Aventurine's famous line, "What, does her cornerstone wrench at your heart so?" is "怎么,她的基石就这么让你撕心裂肺?" The phrase corresponding to the English "heartwrench" is "撕心裂肺" - a saying in Chinese used to describe extreme emotional pain and agony and literally translates to "to rip the heart and break the lungs". It is a saying commonly used in context of heartbreak.
- Aventurine's CN line in the Checking Out quest to Topaz; “哎哟~只看数量不论质量,没想到咱们人美心善的托帕总监也学会偷换概念了。摸着良心说,我接手的项目都是什么难度,你可是比谁都心知肚明吧?", translates to "Oh~ Just focusing on the numbers and not the quality, I didn't expect that our beautiful and kind hearted Topaz learnt how to sneakily change the concepts. Speak with your conscience now, wouldn't you understand better than anyone else how difficult the projects that I take on are?"
- Beautiful is in every other language, as well.
- The beautiful was missing in the English text until patch 2.4, when it was finally added in.
- Also during this quest, in the original CN text Jade says "…These two children, they have a really good relationship." ("…这两个孩子,感情还真好呢。") when talking about Aventurine and Topaz. The word used for relationship, "感情", can mean relationship, but it also has another layer of closeness since it is also related to emotions. “关系”, which is purely about relationship, could have been used instead. “感情” can be used in either in a platonic or romantic context, but it ultimately has the relationship conveyed as 'closer'.
- The beautiful was missing in the English text until patch 2.4, when it was finally added in.
- Beautiful is in every other language, as well.
- The Chinese version of Jade's fourth story differs slightly from the English version. (Note: The first text is not a mistranslation but it is due to the usage of 'you' as both a singular and plural pronoun in the English language.)
- "What do you need to collect bad debts owed by Penacony?" "Your Cornerstone." the young man replied, meeting her gaze. "Well, this is the first time anyone has asked for such a thing. What price will you pay in return?" she asked, a smile playing on her lips. "Our Cornerstones." the young lady replied.
- 「为了收回匹诺康尼的坏债,你们需要什么?」 「你的基石。」少年看向她的眼睛。 「第一次有人提出这样的要求,那你们愿意付出什么?」她微笑道。 「我们的基石。」少女说。
- "What do you guys need to collect the bad debts of Penacony?" "Your Cornerstone." the young man looked into her eyes. "This is the first time anyone has requested for such a thing. Then, what will you guys pay?" she smiled. "Our Cornerstones." said the young lady.
- "Now, let's trade them for the future of Penacony."
- 「现在,用它们去换取匹诺康尼的明天吧。」
- "Now, use them to trade for Penacony's tomorrow."
