Axelsa is the het ship between Axel and Elsa from the Kingdom Hearts fandom.
Canon[]
Although Elsa does get added to the Kingdom Hearts universe as one of the new Seven Hearts in Kingdom Hearts III, she and Lea haven't crossed paths. He spends most of the game training to be a Keyblade wielder before re-joining the rest of his allies for the final battle in the Keyblade Graveyard. Elsa only ever interacts with Sora, Donald, and Goofy in the "Arendelle" world. She is currently unaware of the existence of other worlds, or her role from the pure light in her heart.
However, with the promise of Kingdom Hearts IV, and the over-growing popularity of the Frozen franchise, many fans have hope that Elsa and her world will return in the next installment. This means it is possible, and perhaps even likely, that Elsa and Lea will cross paths in the future. As the Kingdom Hearts universe is always expanding with new games outside of the mainline series as well, it is possible that Elsa and Lea could meet in a mobile or spin-off game.
Axel and Elsa are both seen as "misunderstood" characters in their respective canons, viewed by many to be a villain but having a heart of gold beneath it. Elsa is raised to fear her own powers, and when she accidentally unleashes an eternal blizzard on Arendelle many see her as a villain. In the end, her sister sacrifices herself to save Elsa. Axel, on the other hand, is raised to take pride in his powers, and is taught to use them to achieve his goals. He is seen as a villain by Sora, but it is shown through the events of 358/2 Days that Axel is merely misunderstood, and wants to leave the Organization. In the end, he sacrifices himself to save Sora, in honour of his friend Roxas.
Fanon[]
This ship originally started out as a crossover ship, as Axelsa was created long before Kingdom Hearts III had Frozen be added to the ever growing Kingdom Hearts universe. That is why Axelsa is considered a Kingdom Hearts ship, as well as a cross ship. The same with RiElsa, as it too was a cross ship before KHIII turned it into a Kingdom Hearts ship. Despite the fact that Elsa hasn't met Lea or Riku, there is potential for this to occur in an upcoming game.
Most of the ship's support comes those who feel drawn to "Fire x Ice" couples. Lea's "Axel" persona is mostly featured in the ship, even though some have argued that Lea and Axel have been shown to be the same person rather than two separate people. The Frozen II sequel and Kingdom Hearts IV being confirmed has given some AxElsa fans hope that the KH media might have the two meet in canon. With Elsa being confirmed to be one of the new Seven Hearts and with Lea being one of the Guardians of Light. That is why some of the most resent fanart on the ship has Lea in his casual KH3 clothes and Elsa in one of her Frozen 2 outfits.
Because KH fans prefer to ship the Kingdom Hearts characters with each other, rather than with any of the Disney, Final Fantasy or The World Ends with You cameo characters that have appeared in the series with them, these kind of KH ships aren't very common in the fandom. Even though KH characters like Sora and members of the Wayfinder Trio have been featured in ships like these before. Axelsa is the first known ship to add Axel to this group of ships, that is mostly made out of Sorariel, VenMick, Aquarella and a few others like them.
