Azurrin is the non-binary ship between Corrin and Azura from the Fire Emblem fandom.

Canon[]

While contemplating their current predicament about their family at a lake in Hoshido, Corrin hears someone singing a "beautiful song" nearby. Turning towards the voice, they see a blue-haired girl walking along the shore doing the singing. The girl eventually notices Corrin watching her. Corrin apologizes for interrupting, stating that the song she was singing captivated them. The girl introduces herself as Azura, and reveals she's in the opposite situation as Corrin: while Corrin was born as Hoshido royalty but kidnapped and raised in Nohr, she was a Nohrian princess but taken by Hoshidan forces and raised among them. However, Azura notes that, despite technically being a prisoner, she had been treated very nicely in Hoshido and has been welcomed by the people, especially the royal family. The two discuss Corrin being torn between two families and what they should do about it.

A few days later, Corrin and Azura find themselves at a festival celebrating the former's return home as three of Corrin's blood siblings - Hinoka, Takumi, and Sakura - give them a tour of the city. During the tour, a merchant offers some roasted potatoes to Corrin and their "lady friend" - which Corrin accepts and gives to Azura, both finding the potatoes delicious. Reaching the main plaza, Corrin expresses their joy at how lively Hoshido is with Azura stating that she's glad they see it that way. This joy is interrupted when Takumi makes his distrust of Corrin apparent, and when Azura tries to cut in, his ire turns to her by saying she hadn't "earned the right" to call him by his name. Corrin defends Azura by noting she had been in Hoshido for as long as they've been in Nohr, and that should be enough for her to be family. Sakura manages to break up the argument just as Mikoto - Queen of Hoshido and Corrin's birth mother - arrives for her speech.

The speech is interrupted when a cloaked individual takes Corrin's sword Ganglari - a "gift" to them from Nohr's king Garon - and detonates it, causing significant damage in the plaza and impaling Mikoto with its shards. As Mikoto dies in Corrin's arms, their grief causes them to turn into a massive feral dragon as soldiers similar to the cloaked individual arrive. Azura joins in defending Corrin from the soldiers as they subconsciously help their elder blood brother - Ryoma - defeat the apparent leader of the forces, with Azura specifically warning them that some of the soldiers are using anti-dragon weaponry. Following the battle, Corrin is still raging in the plaza when Azura starts singing the song from the lake in an effort to calm them down, only to get knocked down and pinned by Corrin. Azura pleads with Corrin that, if they want to kill her, then they should do it as themselves. This finally calms Corrin down enough to return to human form.

Azura tries to comfort Corrin after the experience, saying that it wasn't their fault they nearly killed her, but rather their draconic blood. She and the nearby Ryoma express surprise at being able to see a dragon up-close, but this is interrupted when Corrin remembers the state of the town - devastated and devoid of life. As Ryoma consoles Corrin about it, Takumi lashes out at both Corrin (for killing his mother) and Azura (for being an interloper like Corrin), and won't cease despite Azura's ardent defense until Mikoto's retained - Yukimura - arrives and explains everything. After the explanation, news arrives that a Nohrian army is at the border, with Ryoma and their siblings moving to intercept them. Before Corrin can go with them, Azura warns that getting into another fight unprepared would awaken their dragon side again and gives them a Dragonstone to control it. The two eventually make their way to the border to confront the Nohr army - and for Corrin to decide which family to follow.

Should Corrin choose to join their Hoshidan family, Azura will join them the following chapter. The group ventures to find Ryoma and Takumi, and later defeat King Garon; however, Azura sacrifices herself to weaken Garon's true form. In her dying breath, she asks Corrin to smile one last time for her before she vanishes. This causes Corrin to cry. The end shows Corrin conversing with Azura's spirit before they are interrupted by Ryoma.

Fanon[]

Azura and Corrin is one of the most popular ships in Fates. The pairing is only possible in canon if Corrin is male, though female Corrin x Azura is quite popular as well.

There is some discourse surrounding the pairing as in the Revelation route of the Fates it is eventually revealed that Azura's mother, Arete, was a sister of Mikoto, making Azura and Corrin cousins. This has caused some in the fandom to be uncomfortable with the pairing. However, the official art-book states that Arete and Mikoto are "sisters in spirit" and shows no relation between them on a family tree, though it does state they are both descendants of Cadros. This has only lead to further confusion over Azura and Corrin's possible relation. This also goes for their children.

Trivia[]

  • In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Azura appears as a Spirit and is one such that can be fought in a Spirit Battle, where she's represented by the female Corrin and the stage and music seem to represent her and Corrin's first meeting.
    • In the game's "World of Light" story mode, Azura's Spirit Battle must be beat in order to recruit Corrin.
