Bakerstasia is the het ship between Anastasia Tremaine and the Baker from the Cinderella fandom.
Canon[]
Anastasia heads into the village with her sister, Drizella, and their mother to look for new gowns. While walking, she smells fresh bread being made in the bakery. Anastasia follows the delicious scent, wandering into the bakery and accidentally bumping into the Baker. Their eyes meet, and the Baker smiles kindly at her. Anastasia, embarrassed, tries to smile back. She tells him that everything smells good, and he offers her a loaf of fresh bread. Anastasia takes it, but before she can take a bite her mother storms into the shop and knocks the bread from her hands. She reminds Anastasia that the Baker is beneath her, and forbids Anastasia from ever speaking to him again. Anastasia reluctantly agrees, and follows her mother out of the shop.
Unknown to her, Cinderella has been watching everything unfold through the bakery window. Seeing that her step-sister is in love, and wanting her to experience happiness too, Cinderella uses her animal friends to concoct a plan for the two to meet again. The birds steal Anastasia's hat, while the mice infiltrate the bakery and get the Baker's attention. Anastasia chases the birds back towards the bakery, where she again bumps into the Baker. Before she can say anything, a nearby horse is startled and kicks her. Anastasia is sent flying into the bakery, landing in a large mess of flour, eggs, and bread. The Baker rushes to help her, but Anastaisa is embarrassed and runs off crying.
Cinderella follows her, and finds her crying by a small fountain. Cinderella tries to encourage her, telling Anastasia that it was only an accident. Anastasia remarks that Cinderella could never understand what she's going through, because Cinderella is beautiful and she is not. Cinderella says that Anastasia just needs a little help, and offers to bring her back to the castle. Cinderella helps Anastasia with her hair and makeup, then loans her a dress to wear. She teaches Anastasia about the importance of being kind, and being herself. They agree to meet the next day in the village to walk to the bakery together.
The next morning, Anastasia prepares to meet the Baker. She listens to her music box, and fantasizes about the two of them together. She is so infatuated that she is even seen spinning around her room with Lucifer, imagining that the cat is the Baker. Seeking an excuse to head back into town, Anastasia throws all of their bread out the kitchen window and says that she needs to go and buy some more. This tips off both her mother and Drizella, who can tell that Anastasia is acting unusually.
In the village, the Baker buys a heart-shaped garland of flowers for Anastasia. Once she arrives, she does the same thing for him. Anastasia waits for Cinderella in their agreed upon place, near the bakery. However, while she stands there she watches the Baker speak with a young woman. He shows off the flowers he bought for Anastasia, but Anastasia misunderstands and believes that the flowers are for the Baker's friend. Heartbroken, Anastasia runs off crying. The Baker watches Anastasia run off and tries to follow her, but loses track of her. Feeling defeated, he stops by a fountain in the middle of a square. A goat approaches him, and tries to eat the flower garland. The Baker fights back, but in the end is only left with a single crushed flower.
That is when he hears sobs coming from the other side of the fountain. The Baker approaches, and discovers Anastasia there. He offers her a smile, but Anastasia again tries to run away. The Baker stops her, grabbing her hand and offering up the single crushed flower. Anastasia is touched, and finally realizes that the Baker feels the same way about her. She puts the flower in her hair, but before the two can do anything more Anastasia's mother storms in. She commands Anastasia to leave the Baker and to come home immediately. For the first time in her life, Anastasia stands up to her mother. She calls the Baker "sweet", and he calls her "wonderful", and they declare their intentions to attend the upcoming ball together. Her mother is shocked, and storms off with Drizella, who seems to look on with wonderment and jealousy at Anastasia's newfound happiness.
At the ball, Anastasia approaches Cinderella and thanks her, saying that she never dreamed she could feel so happy.
Fanon[]
Bakerstasia is a beloved relationship in the general Disney fandom. While the direct-to-video sequels are often disliked, or even downright hated, pretty much everyone agrees that Anastasia's redemption arc is one of the best things to come out of any Disney direct-to-video sequel. While Cinderella II is generally disliked, with only a 13% on Rotten Tomatoes, even critics tend to agree that the story between Anastasia and the Baker is a standout.
Some fans were disappointed to see that Cinderella III ignored the relationship between Anastasia and the Baker, either being set before they met or implying that they were no longer together. A small cameo of the Baker during the end credits was appreciated, but wasn't enough for some fans who hoped to see their relationship expanded upon in the final film in the franchise.
There are currently over 30 works for this pairing on AO3, and 4 works on FFN tagged with this ship. It is the most popular ship for both Anastasia and the Baker.
