Due to their differing classes (Katsuki in 1-A. Togaru in 1-B), Togaru and Katsuki do not interact commonly, especially with the lack of screen-time for the students of Togaru’s class, and for the fact that Katsuki is usually seen with Eijiro (and to a lesser degree, Denki) when 1-B does make an appearance, or simply, is not an area to come across him, much less interact with him.
Katsuki and Togaru are placed on opposing teams for their Battle Trials, with the respective members of Kyoka, Rikido and Hanta on Katsuki’s team, and Tokage, Bondo and Yosetsu on Togaru’s. Mid-fight, Togaru jumps out of hiding towards an unsuspecting Kyoka to attack her with his blades. Before he can get her, Katsuki notices him, and thinks to himself that “nobody beats him (me) when it comes to speed.”
He kicks Kyoka to push her to safety, and uses an explosion to push Togaru back. As the smoke clears, Togaru gives him an incredulous look, and it’s seen that he blocked the most of Katsuki’s explosion with the defense provided by his blades. At this, Katsuki says “Blocked my blast, huh. I guess bugs (Togaru’s quirk gives him the likeness of a bug) do have quick reflexes!” Katsuki detonates another, stronger explosion at Togaru, who then takes this as an opportunity to retreat, realizing that it’s not smart to attempt to take Katsuki on directly. Later, Katsuki is shown as he performs a move of his, dubbed ‘Explode-A-Pult’, which smashes Togaru into a nearby wall, and allows his teammates to ‘capture’ him. The match ends with the victory of Katsuki’s team after Tokage is defeated.
Katsuki and Togaru look incredibly different, being that Togaru looks like a literal insect, but their personalities are just the same, in brief reflection. Both are notably volatile, or angry people by nature, and often voice as such. Such similar personalities allow for a sort of connection, or understanding of each other, given the shared sense of emotions. Enjoyers of the pairing like to consider the two helping one another work through, or simply cope with their rage through this.
Another trait, as fans just seem to be this way, is undeniably the height difference between the boys. What can be inferred to be the outcome of the physical mutations from his quirk have Togaru standing 17 centimeters (about 6.7 inches) above Katsuki, who reaches no more, no less than the height of a typical boy of his age.
- Katsuki and Togaru are both noted to be oriented towards attack in their fighting styles.
