Balloj is the slash ship between Balloon and OJ from the Inanimate Insanity fandom.
Canon[]
OJ and Balloon are both contestants in seasons 1 and 3, however only Balloon competes in season 2. They first met in "The Crappy Cliff".
Season 1[]
In episode 1, "The Crappy Cliff", Balloon invites OJ over onto his team, in which he obliges.
In episode 4, "One Shot Wonder", Balloon complains about how Marshmallow popped him in the previous episode. The conversation ends off with OJ, Balloon and Bomb forming an alliance, even if they don't understand whats happening.
In episode 7, "Sugar Rush", when Team Chickenleg is up for elimination, Balloon calls for his alliance after both Salt and Pepper vote for him, but OJ and Bomb decide to both vote him as well, resulting in Balloon's elimination from the show. After Balloon's elimination, OJ expresses relief that his former alliance-member is gone.
Season 2[]
In episode 1, "Breaking The Ice", OJ interacts with Balloon twice. Balloon can be seen near the window using spray-paint to make an offensive drawing of OJ on the Hotel's wall. OJ scolds him and Balloon runs out, leaving the can of spray-paint behind. A minute or two later in the episode, Balloon shows back up at Hotel OJ's doorstep, OJ reminds Balloon that he is not allowed inside of the hotel, hinting that he has told Balloon many times to stay out. Balloon gets irritated but is interrupted by OJ slamming the door on him.
In episode 7, "Everything's A-OJ", Balloon asks Salt, Pepper, Paper and Bomb if they think OJ will allow him into the hotel. OJ responds from afar with a "No, I won't!"
Season 2: Episode 9[]
In episode 9, "Rain On Your Charade", Balloon talks to Suitcase, mentioning how he once thought he needed OJ and his other former competitors approval. The scene cuts off to a flashback with Balloon pacing around the front of the hotel with a note sheet that he's reciting the words to. OJ steps out and asks Balloon how long he would stay out, and when Balloon tries to recite the words on his note again, OJ takes it from his hand and reads it himself.
The note can be revealed to say a few things, including crossed out greetings and "nicknames" Balloon chose not to use, one of which being Bae, which is often used as a slang term of endearment. Other things like doodles and random sentences can also be shown.
OJ sighs and lets Balloon into Hotel OJ after reading the note. Balloon admits that he was playing a character, "The Winner", and that he didn't mean any harm. He asks OJ to start over, in which OJ admits that Inanimate Insanity does put pressure on contestants, and that he was also taking on a role of some sort.
Balloon admits soon after OJ's done speaking that he wants to be friends with the other former-members of Inanimate Insanity, and that it "has to be them". OJ lets Balloon know that he needs to give other people a chance, and that he has an opportunity basically right in his grasp. OJ then offers Balloon an umbrella and shuts him out of the hotel right after. That's when the flashback ends.
Inanimate Insanity Invitational[]
In episode 1, "Stranded In Paradise", when OJ, Balloon and other "fan favorites" are riding a boat to Paradise, OJ is noticed stressing over his duties at Hotel OJ, and Balloon nudges him. OJ admits that he is stressed about his vacation, in which the two engage in a passive-aggressive conversation. Their talk is interrupted by the boat suddenly steering towards an island, resulting in a shipwreck.
Inanimate Comics[]
In "Letters", Balloon is featured giving letters to all the other residents of Hotel OJ. Balloon apologizes for his past actions in the letter, and the others all make amends with him. OJ can be seen listening to Balloon talk about musical interests in one panel, and inviting him over to take a picture with the other members of Team Chickenleg in another few panels.
Moments[]
- In III 19, "You Can't Do This Forever", OJ votes for Balloon to win Inanimate Insanity Invitational
- Also in III 19, OJ and Balloon have a picture taken of them side-hugging while OJ gives Balloon a smile and a thumbs up
- In "Complaints", when OJ returns to the complaints stand, he mentions having to help Balloon get out of his locked room.
Fanon[]
Balloj is a mildly popular ship in the Inanimate Insanity fandom. It doesn't gain a lot of attention, but there are fanfictions, artworks, a few edits of it and other things.
Balloj currently has under 10 works on both AO3 and Wattpad.
