The Jungle Book (1967)[]

While he was bonding with the "man-cub" Mowgli since Bagheera abandoned him after the boy refused to follow him to the man village, Baloo was suddenly assaulted by a group of monkeys kidnapping Mowgli by carrying him through the trees. When Baloo calls for Bagheera for help and explains what happened, Bagheera guesses that the monkeys are the followers of "Mad King Louie". Deducing that Mowgli was most likely taken to the ancient ruins where Louie reigns, Bagheera and Baloo make their way there.

Arriving, Baloo is enraged at them taking Mowgli and would've attacked the monkeys right away. However, since the music the monkeys are partying to is so infectious, Baloo forgets all about his rage and can't help but dance along. Bagheera realizes that Baloo will be of no help during this mission and thinks he should just sneak in and take Mowgli back undetected. Baloo meanwhile agrees to work on a distraction, though Bagheera has no reason to take him seriously while he's still entranced by the music.

When it comes to Bagheera managing to disguise himself as a statue, he almost gets within reach of Mowgli and the monkeys are too occupied in partying with King Louie to notice. But just as it seems that they could get away, Baloo storms the ruins using grass and coconut halves to disguise himself as an orangutan and knocks Bagheera in the face with the gate. When King Louie and his followers fall for Baloo's disguise, they don't question the new, apparently female orangutan and instead are more than happy to have Baloo join their little party. King Louie even accepts a dance with Baloo, though eventually, the disguise falls apart and the monkeys realize that they've been tricked. Baloo and Bagheera waste no time and chase each other while trying to snatch Mowgli away from the other party. However, when most of Louie's palace gets destroyed in the chase, Baloo and Louie take the place of supporters, with Baloo managing to slip away to leave Louie to hold the entire weight of his palace's remains on his own. But Baloo goes the extra mile and starts tickling the mad king to have him loosen his grip on the stone slap he's holding up, the monkeys try to chase Baloo away to help, only to destroy the last supporter by accident. With King Louie looking around himself to find his kingdom in even more ruined state, Baloo and Bagheera manage to escape with Mowgli in tow.

In this continuity, Baloo and Louie start out as friends and the narrative implies that they have been friends for years. Louie is owner Louie's Place, which is a resort/bar on otherwise deserted islands where pilots regularly meet to take a break from work, Baloo himself is a pilot and regular. It is established that Baloo had been the very first customer of Louie's Place and they share a nostalgia for the beginnings of their career.

Balouie is a rarepair in both fandoms, King Louie in general is rarely given attention in shipping circles. Though some have have argued that there is enough fuel in their interactions in The Jungle Book and their friendship in the TaleSpin series.
