ears ago. Before becoming a member of the Seven Deadly Sins, Ban, then known as "Bandit Ban", wanted to gain immortality, so he climbed the gigantic tree in the Fairy King's Forest where the Fountain of Youth was located. After climbing to the top, Elaine, the holy guardian of the fountain, tried to stop his quest by throwing him off the tree with her magic, as she believed that he was like all other humans and had malicious feelings. However, Ban continued to survive each fall and persistently climbed back up the tree to get the Fountain while Elaine continually stopped him, with both of their actions angering the other. He then unsheathed his three-section staff and prepared to fight her, which she did as well. Seemingly attacking her, Ban then manipulated his weapon to instead grab the cup containing the fountain's water, surprising Elaine. Before he could drink from it, she immediately pinned him down with the tree branches. Elaine then explains to him that without the spring, the forest would die, and as soon as he gave up, Elaine realized his lack of malicious feelings by reading his mind and frees him. After this, Elaine asks who he is and what his reason for wanting immortality was, to which he informs her of his name and also the reason why he wanted immortality: although his life had not been very good, he felt that if he lived long enough, something good could finally happen to him. She then asks him what if he achieved eternal life and nothing good happened to him, since she had been protecting the spring for seven hundred years in her brother's place and nothing good had happened to her in all that time. Upon hearing this, Ban is surprised and says that it must have been "boring as hell", angering her. Seeing Elaine's explosive reaction, Ban states that she was "too much for him" and climbs down from the tree, seemingly leaving. As he then proceeds to leave the forest, she is seen dejectedly expressing her wish that he had stayed there longer. However, to her surprise, he soon returns and says that he had come down to retrieve his Ale collection book, which he had dropped when he was thrown from the tree by Elaine, and proceeds to show it to her, who gladly listens to him.

Over the next seven days, the two become close, with Elaine starting to develop feelings for Ban and vice versa. Some time later, when Elaine is seemingly alone, she declares her wish that it had been her that Ban had gone to steal instead of the fountain. However, to her embarrassment, he overhears her and questions her if she really wants him to do that. He then taunts her by saying that he will do it, with her telling him not to make fun of her. He then tells her that he is serious, as he does not get along well with people and she is the only one who listens to what he has to say. This makes her quite happy and flattered, but she declines his offer, explaining that she has to protect the fountain, leading him to then offer to find her brother and bring him back, which will relieve her of her duties and allow her to leave the forest. Upon hearing this, she hugs him emotionally, which surprises him.

At that moment, their conversation was interrupted by the attack of a demon from the Demon Clan who began burning the Fairy King's Forest with his purgatory fire. Ban instructs Elaine to take the cup from the spring and escape, and then uses his three-section staff to remove the demon's heart, which, however, fails to kill him. She then tries to stop him and inform him that demons have more than one heart. The demon then fatally wounds Ban and Elaine, leaving them on the brink of death. In desperation, Elaine asks Ban to drink the spring water so he can heal himself, but he refuses, telling her to drink it because she must live and he did not even have the strength to drink the water due to his injury. Elaine then sacrifices herself for him and makes him drink the spring water through a kiss, saving him and making him immortal. When his injuries healed due to his newly acquired ability, he angrily and quickly killed the demon. After Ban defeats the demon, a dying Elaine gives him an Almoca Seed, which is the last seed in the forest, and asks him to plant it somewhere. Ban is heartbroken, asking her to hold on, so she tells him that she was very happy when he said he would steal it and asks him to tell her that again. Ban then tries to declare again that he will definitely "make her his", but is cut off by her death.

Fanon[]

Banlaine is one of the most popular ships in the Seven Deadly Sins fandom. Shippers tend to really appreciate their eternal, faithful, and enduring love. Others in the fandom may not be too keen on the couple's perspective because Elaine looks like a child (despite being over 1000 years old) or because they prefer Ban with Jericho.
