Barrfie is the friendship between Yuffie Kisaragi and Barret Wallace in the Final Fantasy fandom.

Yuffie first learns about Barret when she arrives in Midgar to work with Avalanche HQ. She sees Barret and Tifa Lockhart outside of Seventh Heaven, and is instantly impressed by them. She wants to speak with them, but is discouraged from doing so by Sonon and Nayo. Later, Yuffie and Sonon wonder if they would have had more success if they'd teamed up with Barret's sect of Avalanche rather than Avalanche HQ.

Yuffie first meets Barret officially in Under Junon. Cloud Strife and the rest of his party help to save Yuffie from the Terror of the Deep, and she is wary of them until she recognizes Barret and Tifa. Knowing that they're members of Avalanche, she quickly changes her tune and wants to join up with Cloud's party. They agree to discuss things in the morning, and the party head back to their accommodations. When talking with Barret that night, the best dialogue option is to tell him that Yuffie probably wants his autograph.

In Costa del Sol, Yuffie makes another appearance. She helps Cloud and his party win in their fight against Hojo. This impresses Barret, who believes that he was unable to do anything helpful at all. The next morning, Yuffie officially joins the party. Barret is seemingly put off by her attitude, as she is an independent spirit. The two get into a humourous argument on the climb up Mt. Corel, with Yuffie calling Barret a "tyrant" for trying to put her in her place.

When the group finally reaches Corel, Barret is not welcomed with open arms to his old hometown. While the rest of the party is shown to be uncomfortable with the villagers' treatment of Barret, Yuffie is the only one to step in and stand up for him. Barret tells Yuffie that he's all right, but she refuses to accept that. She encourages Barret to stand up for himself, but he instead puts on his sunglasses and takes the villagers' verbal abuse.

Fanon

Barrfie is a rarepair in the Final Fantasy VII fandom. Despite both characters being members of Cloud's party, very little fan content exists for them. This is partially because the relationship is almost strictly seen as platonic, and romantic ships are much more popular. The two also do not have very many solid interactions in the original game, so the relationship between the two of them has only recently become interesting to fans.

Some fans see Barret as a father figure or an older brother figure to Yuffie. Others see him more as a reluctant babysitter, who has much less affection for Yuffie. Some fans enjoy playing with the idea of Marlene, Barret's daughter, growing up to act like Yuffie one day, as he is often shown to be exasperated with Yuffie's actions.
