When Nightwing and Robin detected an unknown impulse making its way into the cave of Mount Justice, they head to its location with Beast Boy. There, the three see a young Speedster coming out of a large capsule-like device. Liking the way they called him the source of the "impulse," Bart Allen decides to use it as his hero name. Not knowing who this kid is and that they can't let him run around the base until they get answers, the three try to catch him. Nightwing finally being the only one able to catch and restrain Impulse. Once awake, he gives Bart a drink of water, while advising him not to reveal too much of the future, in case he does turns out to be genuine. After taking a sip Bart realized that Nightwing was obtaining an DNA sample and spits into the glass, to help him out. Knowing that it was such a Dick Grayson move, from what he was told about Nightwing from his home timeline, and accidentally reveals Dick's civilian name to Garfield. Bart says that secret identities aren't used in the future, but does know it was his excitement of meeting past heroes that made him forget to be careful. After Bart got out of his restraints and speed his way out of the cave, Dick reveals to Tim that he had placed a tracker in the water he gave Bart. Knowing that a normal tracker placed on his body would fall off, from the super enhanced speed he is able to run at. Nightwing then gives Wally West and Barry Allen a call, so they can have a heads up on Bart.

BartDick is a rarepair in the DC fandom, and the Young Justice fandom. This is due to their limited interactions across all versions, as well as the two being part of two different hero generations in both the show and comic. This makes it harder for fans to ship the two, as well as them having far more popular ships within their generation. The two are also shipped more often with their generations speedster and Robin.
Most of the fans do come from the TV series. With some just liking the idea of the two's more opposing natures being together. Some fans depict Bart as having an early crush on Dick when he's first figuring out his sexuality.
On AO3, there are currently 15+ written works.
