Batanna is the het ship between Bruce Wayne and Zatanna Zatara from the DC Comics and DC Animated Universe fandoms.

Bruce and Zatanna have always had a close relationship that has bordered between pure flirtation and full romance. When Zee was offered a spot in the Justice League, Batman speaks on her behalf to the League and her over protective father.

A flashback in the Batman: the Animated Series shows that Bruce had met Zatanna when he asked her father to teach him escape tricks, as part of his training to become Gotham's protector. Zee would observe those lessons, as well as make time for Bruce between brakes and his off days. The two had become close during that time, before he learned what he came to them for and left. At some point during those days, Bruce had given Zatanna the nickname "Zanna" and was the only one who to call her that.
Years later Zatanna came to Gotham to perform a show that Bruce goes to see. To show his support and to see how she has been since he last saw her. The two were happy to see each other again, and while Bruce would have liked Zee to see the face he wore when they met, he finds himself showing her his Dark Knight side when she was framed for crimes she didn't commit. Wanting to see an innocent Zatanna be sent off to prison, Batman brakes her out of the transport vehicle and unwittingly made her a fugitive. Knowing that it would be pointless to talk her out of it, as he sets out to clear her name, Batman lets Zee tag a long and does his best to watch her back. After they found the real criminals, who were about to kill them, he ends up call Zee "Zanna" when he tells her to trust him. This got Zatanna to figure out who the Dark Knight is, and has no intention to tell anyone Bruce's secret. She tells Batman that she knows through the "goodbye letter" she left him, after she takes a turn on doing an vanishing act in him.
The two meet again in the Justice League series. Before and after Zee joins the League in Unlimited. The series also revealed that Zee and Bruce may had gotten a little closer since their encounter in the Batman: the Animated Series, until they drifted apart before the JL series but still remained friends and allies. Like he did when Wonder Woman was turned into a pig by a goddess and went to ask Zatanna if her magic would be able to undo the spell. The trust they have for one another was the other reason he went to her, as he had wanted to keep Diana's transformation on the down low. Despite Zee advising him to see Doctor Fate after her magic failed to undo the spell. Even though he tells Zatanna that he and Wonder Woman are friends, she reminded him that they were friends before becoming very close to one another.
DC Animated Movie Universe[]
The Justice League Dark film shows that Zatanna knows that Batman is Bruce Wayne and that he trusts her. Despite Batman being an none believer of magic and the supernatural, he turns to Zatanna knowing that she can guide him to John Constantine. Zatanna served as one of his guides into the world of magic, beside Constantine and Deadman. Who help the Dark Knight find the cause of the nightmare illustrations that the League had been looking into. Batman and Zee don't interact much in the film outside their JL Dark team, part from the scene where he went to talk to Zatanna after her magic show and left her a note with the bat symbol on it. Like Batman wanted Zee to know which side of him wanted to see her, before he entered her dressing room. Due to the good she has done with her magic during the case and in the final battle, Batman asks her to join the League. Knowing that they could use her again in the future. Zee liked that idea and asked John if he'll like to sign up as well.

Batanna is one of the main rival ships of both BatCat and BruTalia. Due to Zee being one of the few people that Bruce trusts and can let down his always alert guard with. As well as her being part of the Justice League side of his caps and cowl life, that Bruce has dedicated his life to since he put on the mask for the first time. The age gap between them in the Young Justice series and DC Super Hero Girls, however, doesn't have Batanna being supported in those fandoms. Even though some YJ fans have viewed Batman as a second father figure to Zee, when he promised her father that he would look after her in his place.
On AO3, Batanna is the fourth most written ship for Zatanna. The are currently there are 100 written works.
