Currently, both Kimi and Ollie are competing in Formula 1, in their rookie season, with Kimi driving for Mercedes and Ollie driving for Haas. Prior to Formula 1, they were teammates in Formula 2, driving for Prema Racing during the 2024 season. Prior to the 2024 F2 season they have had minimal interaction, except for sharing a podium in 2022 F4 in Monza. However, both have competed with Prema Racing in other junior formulas, Kimi in F4 and FRECA and Ollie in F3. Kimi is Italian, while Ollie is British and moved to Italy at the age of 16 to join the Ferrari Driver Academy. They are each others closest friend on the grid.
2024 Formula 2 Season[]
Kimi and Ollie became teammates in the 2024 Formula 2 season, being Kimi's rookie season and Ollie's second season. Together they achieved 5th in the Team Championship standings and individually Kimi achieved 6th and Ollie 12th in the Driver Championship standings. Ollie missed out on three of these races since he was substituting as a reserve driver for Ferrari and Haas. The two of them were often paired up in 2024 Prema Challenge videos as teammates, and during their time at Prema, they liked pulling pranks on their staff members. On one instance they took the credit card of Ollie's trainer and brought a bunch of junk online, and also stole the ID card of Ollie's coach so he could not go back home. Ollie likes taking photos of Kimi and posting them on his Instagram dumps.
2025 Formula 1 Season[]
The two are in different teams, with Kimi driving for Mercedes and Ollie driving for Haas. They are often seen chatting to each other before the race, and are included official Formula 1 content together along with fellow rookies Isack Hadjar, Gabriel Bortoleto and Jack Doohan. The two are often posted together on official accounts, and they like taking photos of each other on camera. They were interviewed together for an ESPN rookie video in Bahrain.

Bearnelli are a relatively new ship, gaining popularity during the 2024 season because of their chemistry in Prema videos, and their adorable friendship. In the F1 fandom they are often compared to Sewis and Lestappen because they are rivals in different teams, and Loscar because of their rough starts in their rookie seasons. They are both seen in the fandom as babies on the grid during the 2025 season due to their rookie status, and are often "adopted" by older drivers in fan content. Bearnelli is the main pairing for both Kimi and Ollie. On AO3 they have over 300+ works.
