Canon[]
Season 2[]
First First Contact
At the top of the episode, Mariner bumps into Jennifer in one of the halls and drops some flasks she was carrying. Mariner makes a comment that what she is carrying is contraband and she's sure that Jennifer will report her to Ransom. Jennifer is annoyed at her and walks off, telling Mariner that she doesn't think of her at all. Mariner talks to herself after Jennifer walks off, saying that she bets Jennifer dreams of Mariner every night. Trying to hide the contraband as a door opens, Mariner sits against a wall to hear that her mother is getting a promotion and leaving the Cerritos.
After successfully removing all outer hull panels from the Cerritos to make it through a debris field after a planetoid exploded, Mariner and Jennifer stand on either side of the open deck and nod at each other. They work together to call out to Ransom where to avoid the debris. As the ship hits a large piece of debris, Mariner is launched out of the open panel, where Jennifer runs out and grabs her before she floats far enough away from the ship. As the tractor beam of the Cerritos is able to grab the Archimedes, Jennifer is seen holding Mariner by the waist in the main deck.
At the bar after Captain Freeman's successful first contact, Mariner joins Jennifer at the bar to thank her for saving her life. Jennifer apologizes for being so rude to Mariner over the past year, explaining it was because she was worried that Mariner already hated her. Mariner understands and says that she often ends up putting distance between herself and people that she likes. Jennifer asks if that means that Mariner likes her, and she jokingly deflects before grabbing Jennifer by the hand and pulling her to the table where Boimler, Rutherford, and Tendi are sitting. Jennifer congratulates Boimler for almost dying to help remove the final hull piece during the mission, and Mariner tells Boimler that Freeman noticed his banner. As he runs off to tell the captain that he made the banner, Jennifer tells Mariner that she likes Boimler, and Mariner agrees.
Season 3[]
Mining the Mind's Mines
On a mission to dispose of rocks that make people see their fantasies, Mariner hallucinates Jennifer in a bikini calling her "babe," telling her that she wants to go yell at Ransom. Boimler asks if Jennifer and Mariner are really at the "babe stage" in their relationship, which Mariner agrees, but disagrees to Boimler referring to them as "girlfriends," saying that she doesn't want to label it. The Jennifer hallucination, however, says that she wants to label their relationship and Mariner blushes, which Boimler and Rutherford make fun of. Mariner walks away as the Jennifer hallucination embraces Rutherford's hallucination and asks if Mariner wants to watch the warp core with them. Mariner, Boimler and Rutherford begin moving faster with the removal of the rocks, and the Jennifer hallucination cheers Mariner on as she dunks one rock in the containment vessel, asking to make out with her.
When Lieutenant Stevens knocks over the containment vessel, the rocks all break, releasing everyone's nightmares instead of fantasies. Mariner's Jennifer fantasy is picked up and torn in half by a Jennifer nightmare hallucination, a large wolf-like Andorian growling that she wants her and Mariner to be totally exclusive and grow old together. Mariner and Boimler run into a cave with the rest of the crew and Rutherford seals the mouth of the cave, where Boimler tells Mariner that she needs to go back to therapy. The rocks begin reading all memory and brain activity, meaning that the nightmares begin exhibiting strange random details from people's short-term memories. Boimler asks Mariner if Jennifer wears hats, to which Mariner says that Jennifer's antennae are too sensitive.
Hear All, Trust Nothing
The Cerritos docks briefly on Deep Space Nine for Captain Freeman to speak to Kira Nerys about contact with Karemma traders. Boimler, Rutherford, and Tendi are excited about touring the station while Mariner complains that they are just tourists and that she won't be joining them. Jennifer then pops up out of Mariner's bunk asking if Mariner staying on the Cerritos means that she's free for the day. Mariner sheepishly says that she thought Jennifer was still asleep and Boimler, Rutherford, and Tendi say hello to her. Jennifer asks if Mariner wants to come with her to hang out with her friends at a weekly group they do, which they call "salons." Mariner says that she should probably go give her friends a tour of DS9, but the three insist that they'll be fine and that Mariner should finally meet Jennifer's friends as their relationship gets more serious. When Jennifer walks away, Mariner expresses her concerns to the three about being worried about what kind of people Jennifer's friends will be, and if they'll like her, and what that will mean for their relationship. Boimler tells her that it'll be fine as long as she's not bossy with them like she is with Boimler, Rutherford, and Tendi. Mariner says she's not bossy and the three laugh before leaving to visit the station.
At the "salon," Mariner shows up late and still in uniform, visibly unsure and uncomfortable about the situation. Jennifer's friends instantly don't seem like Mariner's type, but Mariner stays quiet and watches on. As the group continues on, Mariner grows more and more uncomfortable and upset with Jennifer's friends and their ways of doing things, including making candles and doing circles to express their emotions and feelings through stories and dance. When Mariner refuses to engage in the sharing circle, one of Jennifer's friends gets upset at her refusal to engage and Mariner backs down instead of arguing. Karemma traders cause a full system shutdown on the station that transfers to the power going out on the Cerritos. With no power in the "salon," Jennifer's friends begin to panic and Mariner gets annoyed, but tries not to get too angry. Jennifer then asks why Mariner is refusing to get angry with her friends, to which Mariner says that she didn't want to ruin things with Jennifer's friends by being herself. Jennifer says that she invited Mariner just so that she would be contrarian and do something to anger and "destroy" her friends.
Mariner finally acts how she usually does, yelling over Jennifer's friends and stunning all of them with her phaser to quiet them down. When they're all stunned, Jennifer thanks her for finally being herself and scaring her friends for her. Then Jennifer suggests that they stun themselves with Mariner's phaser to even things. The two embrace and kiss as Mariner shoots them both and they land, cuddled up, on the main table, as power returns to the Cerritos.
As they share a drink at Quark's bar, Mariner tries to apologize about not meshing well with Jennifer's friends. Jennifer says that she's even happier with the current outcome, that her friends are scared of Mariner instead. They laugh about the situation as Mariner and Quark quip about her tab. Kira comes over to say hello to Mariner and then Kira and Quark start to argue while Mariner and Jennifer laugh.

When a reporter boards the Cerritos to follow Captain Freeman around as she conducts Second Contact with planets Ornara and Brekka as a soft launch of Freeman's proposed new "Project Swingby," the reporter tries to interview as many people of the Cerritos as possible to get a feel of the ship dynamics. Freeman is on edge about what the reporter may find about the ship, so she tries to keep everyone as orderly as possible. However, Mariner makes it her duty to speak to the reporter, which is then rumored to cause the reporter's negative final story. Jennifer breaks up with Mariner over it, before Freeman sends Mariner to a penal colony. However, Mariner turns out to be the only person who doesn't say something negative about the ship, but Jennifer and Mariner both seem uninterested in rekindling their relationship after Mariner returns.
