Berkunea is the het ship between Berkut and Rinea from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia[]
In Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, Berkut is heir apparent to the throne of the Rigelian Empire. Shortly before the events of the game proper, he meets Rinea, the daughter of a lesser Rigelian noble, at a ball and is immediately stricken by her. Distraught that she is alone, he tells her that as an invited guest, she has the right to carry herself as anyone else, despite what other people think of her. When he asks Rinea if she likes dancing, she replies that she loves to dance, especially in a flower garden behind her manor where birds gather. The two agree to have the next dance.
They are seen dancing once more when they are first seen in the game at a ballroom in Zofia Castle. Shortly after, Berkut proclaims that he will one day rule the entire continent of Valentia and offers to make Rinea his empress. She is speechless by the offer. Later, she tries to help Berkut calm down when he twice loses battle to Alm and is mocked by the Duma Faithful.
At the beginning of the final chapter, when Berkut learns the truth about Alm, he finds himself wallowing in despair at an altar for the evil god Duma with nothing to do but plead to the gods. Rinea comes down to see him and tells him that Alm will show him mercy and that even if Berkut were a swineherd, she would still love him. Berkut takes this as a slight and indirectly sacrifices Rinea to Duma so he can have power. This catches the attention of Berkut's comrade Fernand, who is mortally wounded by a corrupted version of Rinea's essence. Alm's forces defeat Berkut and the witch Rinea, freeing them from the curse of Duma. Shortly before he dies of his wounds, Berkut regains his senses and apologizes to both Rinea's spirit and Alm for what he had become. The couple then happily set off into the afterlife.
Fire Emblem Heroes[]
Berkut's "Prideful Prince" bio states that he is "First in line to the Rigelian throne. Prideful, but loves Rinea with all his heart."
Power's Den[]
In the second "Fallen Heroes" event, Berkut (Purgatorial Prince) is searching for Rinea and he demands that Commander Anna summon her right then and there, and becomes infuriated when Anna states that specific Heroes cannot be summoned at will. Her witch form appears in his special and standard portrait, as well as his special animation. His accessory that can be earned during the event is the flower Rinea wears in her hair, in both charred and uncharred varieties.
Till Song's End[]
Special versions of both Berkut (Debonair Noble) and Rinea (Reminiscent Belle) appear as playable units in the thirty-first Tempest Trials in the beginning and ending where they attend a ball and vow to each other always,
Fanon[]
Fans have gravitated towards this pairing due to its ultimately tragic nature and often wish what could have been under different circumstances.
It is also common to imagine Marianne von Edmund from Fire Emblem: Three Houses as their daughter due to her resemblance to Rinea and her affinity for horses and birds, both animals also associated with Berkut and Rinea respectively. She also is strong with lances like Berkut.
