Berniegard is the femslash ship between Bernadetta and Edelgard from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Edelagrd and Bernadetta are both students at Garreg Mach Monaster's Officers Academy and members of the Black Eagles house. Edelgard first describes Bernadetta as somewhat eccentric but nonetheless a gentle soul. She is aware of Bernadetta's tendency to shut herself in her room and reassures Byleth that she will make sure Bernadetta at least attends class.
In their support conversations Bernadetta begins to shadow Edelgard, though she is immediately noticed. When Edelgard asks why she is being followed Bernadetta first panics, fearing harm, but is reassured by Edelgard that no harm will come to her. Bernadetta comes to explain that she considers Edelgard to be fearless and she looks up to her as an example to follow, however she finds Edelgard too intimidating to interact with directly with. Edelgard once again tries to reassure Bernadetta that not even she is truly fearless, admitting that she fears the ocean at night in part due to the fact that she cannot swim. Bernadetta admits she's surprised Edelgard cannot swim though she tone is slightly too jovial and causes Edelgard to lash out in irritation.
Later Edelgard praises Bernadetta's attempts to get over her fear of her, though she reprimands how quick Bernadetta jumps to conclusion and believes the worst of herself to the point of not listening when others try to tell her otherwise. Bernadetta remains quite, trying to actually listen as Edelgard, much to Edelgard's surprise. Afterward Bernadetta asks if she can finally scream once Edelgard is finished speaking. Edelgard allows it however Bernadetta finds she is no longer upset and can't remember why she wanted scream in the first place.
During the War Phase Edelgard and Bernadetta take to gardening together. They share some of their insecurities, with Bernadetta admitting she like flowers as they don't talk, get angry or hit her and Edelgard agreeing that they are sweet and can be trusted on sight. Bernadetta fumbles slightly in trying compliment Edelgard by comparing her to how sweet flowers are, but goes on to say she's not as scared of Edelgard or nobles in general any more thanks to them becoming friends. Edelgard then thanks Bernadetta as she feels that before meeting her she was more prone to anger but has grown past this thanks to her. They return to gardening while admiring a flower that is about to bloom.
In their paired ending, Bernadetta tried to withdraw from politics and remain in her family's territory, however Edelgard demanded that she come to Enbar and counsel her in governing Fódlan so that she would not become too detached, which Bernadetta accepted.
Fanon[]
Berniegard is a less common ship in the Three Houses fandom though still generally liked even by those who have other preferred ships for the two. Many fans enjoy how the two balance each other and help each other grow, with Bernadetta become less of a fearful recluse and Edelgard becoming less prone to anger. This is further reinforced by the Crimson Flower route being the only route Edelgard survives and the only time Bernadetta will leave her room during the War Phase. However, there are part of the fandom that enjoy Bernadetta being with the hegemon form of Edelgard seen only in the Azure Moon route. This is partly thanks to the form looking like a carnivorous plant, which is Berniegard's favourite type of plant.
They are often shipped alongside the other popular Black Eagle ships such as Doropetra, Ferdibert and Casphardt. On AO3 it is the most written for ship for Bernadetta.
