BlastVoid is the slash ship between Blast and Empty Void from the One Punch Man fandom.
Canon[]
Psychic Sisters Arc[]
Blast and "his partner" were first mentioned by Sitch.[1] He tells Sekingar, Zombieman, Flashy Flash, Sweet Mask and Genos about them and how Blast has been continuously fighting "God" for 20 years and he, his partner and many other collaborators were searching for those "Mysterious Cubes" that could turn humans into monsters. There is a panel where Blast is standing right next to his partner and pointing forward while his partner holds a map. The next panel is them standing with their collaborator and analyzing one of the Mysterious Cubes.
Ninjas Arc[]
The Heavenly Ninja Party tells Speed-o'-Sound Sonic their plans to assassinate Flashy Flash first with their leader "That Man's" help since he has finally awakened from his deep coma after he lost his battle against Blast 15 years ago. And then they plan to publicly execute Blast. Later, Saitama and Flashy Flash are surprised to discover Blast in one of the Hero Association's laboratories.[2]
Flashy Flash asks Blast for further information about this "God" entity, but Blast refuses since he doubts Flashy Flash's abilities to help him in any way when it comes to "God". This does not sit well with the S-Class speedster, who admits that after reminiscing about his upbringing in the "Ninja Village", he recalls seeing one of the Mysterious Cubes in a container while exploring the facility with his friend. At the time, they also discovered the "village" founder "That Man", who hardly resembled human and was sleeping in a recovery device. Flashy Flash then says that if "God" has also given "That Man" powers, then what he knows makes more sense. Because the "Ninja Village's" aim was to produce and ship first-class assassins, the youngsters were subjected to brutal training. He then posits that the "Village" may have been a front for "God" to create his minions. Flash then asks whether he is correct, but Blast responds that he sympathizes with him but cannot accept his assistance in the battle against this "God".
Blast then reveals that "That Man's" real name is "Empty Void" and that he is his partner. Flashy Flash is shocked to learn this. The number one hero confesses that during their search for the cubes, Empty Void fell under "God's" control. He goes on to say that if he and Empty Void hadn't failed, those youngsters would not have to have gone through the "Village’s" training. The number of assassination victims would likewise have been few. Blast admits feeling responsible for what happened with the "Village".
Flashy Flash then questions if Blast let his partner go despite becoming the enemy's pawn. Blast comments that he is being very harsh. He explains that Empty Void and he were once equal in power, but after attaining "God's" power, Empty Void gained a significant edge, however, Blast was able to inflict a serious wound that would have taken 15 years to heal. Flashy Flash is dissatisfied with Blast's decision to let his partner escape and accuses him of being soft towards the enemy regardless of the fact that he is his partner. He then resolves to learn more about the "God" on his own and instructs Blast to stay out of his way.
Saitama asks Blast what he plans to do about his partner, and he and Sitch then show them the Hero Association's experiments on the monsterized martial arts competition contestants. They're attempting to separate the monster cells from the human cells and convert them back into humans. Saitama then realizes that Blast wishes to restore his partner's human form. Flashy Flash is uncertain if the monsters still have humanity, and he wonders if Empty Void is the type of person who can be captured alive.
Suddenly, Blast senses Empty Void's imminent attack and presumably takes the entire reconstructed A-City turned into Hero Association HQ to another realm when Empty Void's gigantic slash attack barely misses them. He then teleports them back to Earth, where Flashy Flash, Saitama, Manako, Sitch, and Blast stand on top of the Hero Association headquarters building. They witness the enormous destruction that Empty Void has caused around them, but Blast appears to believe it is his way of greeting them. Flashy Flash was surprised to learn that this tremendous attack was one of Empty Void's techniques, but Blast casually confirms it. When Saitama asks if he believes he can defeat Empty Void, Blast responds that he will come up with something because he hasn't simply been messing around either.[3]
In a flashback, after Garou was defeated and lost his power, Empty Void seized that power. Blast attempted to stop Void, but he managed to escape. In the present day, Blast informs Flashy Flash that Void has grown stronger, having revived himself with Garou's power. Flash inquires if Void can move between dimensions like Blast, and Blast confirms this. He suspects Void has been hiding in another dimension, preparing for an offensive, and vows not to let him escape again.
Blast explains Empty Void's "Dimension Slash" technique which was granted by "God." Flash then receives a challenge letter from Speed-o'-Sound Sonic, and if "That Man" has control over Sonic, then Flash should go to the location mentioned in the letter and this would give Blast a chance to confront Empty Void. Blast confirms the Ninja hideout's address from Flash but advises against going together to avoid alerting Void. Instead, he gives Flash a device with a single button to alert him if Void appears.[4]
Later, after Flash and Sonic fail to handle Void, Blast appears and saves them both. He punches Void away from Flashy Flash and reveals that he had saved Sonic from being cut in half by hiding his upper body in another space using a gate, creating the illusion that Void had succeeded. Blast playfully mocks Void for falling for the trick. Surprised to see Blast, Void asks how he found them. Blast explains that he found the wording in Flash's letter suspicious, so he pretended to warp elsewhere and secretly followed Flashy Flash. Although he lost him halfway through in the fog and panicked, he managed to find them just in time when Void used his Dimension Slash technique.[5]
Fanon[]
A few One Punch Man fans began shipping Blast with Empty Void after a manga panel showed them together looking at a map. These shippers saw potential in their relationship, noting that Blast seemed to be wearing shades similar to those Empty Void had before becoming a Mysterious Being, though it's unconfirmed if they're the same. Online manga chapter 196 further fueled this ship, as it highlighted Blast's care for his (former) partner, delighting fans. Although this chapter was later retconned, it retained key points, such as revealing Empty Void's name and his relationship with Blast.
On AO3, the ship was initially tagged under Blast/"his partner" because fans were unsure if Empty Void and the Ninja Village leader, "That Man," were the same person. Eventually, fans learned that Blast's partner is also known as "That Man" and his real name is "Empty Void." While there isn't much fan content available online, shippers occasionally create fan art and posts about them. Some view their story as tragic due to past events that changed the ninja leader, while others refer to them as "toxic boyfriends" because of the strained relationship.
Before Empty Void's name was revealed, shippers and some other OPM fans often referred to him as "Blast's boyfriend" in conversations about the two.
