Bombtilda is the het ship between Bomb and Matilda from the Angry Birds fandom.
Canon[]
Bomb and Matilda are among the first five birds to be introduced in the original Angry Birds game from 2009. Both birds have an ability related to explosions. Bomb can denotate at will to destroy structures, while Matilda lays an explosive egg midair that explodes when dropped. The final level of the "Poached Eggs" episode has Bomb and Matilda together to destroy King Pig's castle.
Angry Birds Toons[]
In this series, Bomb is excitable, energetic, and oftentimes emotional. His eponymous power manifests through his strong emotions. This often causes trouble for the birds around him but serves as a powerful attack against the pigs. In contrast, Matilda, is motherly and sensitive, and does not resort to violent conflicts. Despite this, she has a hidden temper when provoked, or in scenarios such as the eggs or her garden being in danger. Sometimes, Bomb's recklessness causes trouble for Matilda, such as in the episode "Shrub It In" where Bomb's explosions destroy Matilda's shrub. Nonetheless, both of them work together along with Red and the rest of the flock to protect their eggs from the Bad Piggies.
In the episode "Clash of Corns," Bomb tries to eat a corn cob from a plant Matilda is raising, much to her objection. Bomb comes up with numerous attempts to eat the corn, such as pretending to have chicken pox, and sneaking on it at night, only for all his plans to fail. The next morning, Matilda, armed with a helmet and carrying a potato gun, shoots at Bomb who is pretending to be a bee. A guilt-ridden Matilda offers the corn to Bomb, trembling in fear. Bomb is overexcited, causing him to explode. The corn transforms into popcorn raining from the sky. The episode ends with Bomb kissing Matilda on the cheek as they eat the falling popcorn.
Fanon[]
Possibly one of the earliest and biggest het ships in the franchise, fans have paired Bomb and Matilda, not only due to their explosive capabilities, but also their colors complementing each other (Bomb's black and Matilda's white). Ever since The Angry Birds Movie and its sequel introduced a relationship-turned-marriage between Matilda and Terence, fans were divided by this pairing, citing that Bomb and Matilda have a more fitting romantic relationship. Despite this, many fanfictions and fanart pieces continue to explore this ship.
