BrownPelt is the het ship between Charlie Brown and Lucy Van Pelt in the Peanuts fandom.
Canon[]
Charlie Brown and Lucy Van Pelt are significant characters from Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts, with Charlie Brown's debut on October 3, 1950, and Lucy later debuting on March 3, 1952. Charlie Brown always has a critically negative opinion of Lucy, as she is always doing illogically mean things to him and Lucy's younger brother, Linus Van Pelt. He also hates how she always calls him rude, harsh, nasty and insulting names, such as "blockhead", "wishy-washy" and other things like that. He also, especially, hates the football gag that she always, constantly, pulls on him every year.
Lucy treats Charlie Brown worse than she does to anyone else. She frequently hurls insults like "dumb" and "weak" at Charlie Brown for her own amusement, despite said labels being inaccurate. She often remains stubbornly unaware of the pain she inflicts on him, even when it’s painfully obvious At times, she deliberately teases him to provoke a reaction. While her mistreatment is typically verbal, she occasionally resorts to physical antics, most famously with her illogical football prank. Lucy delivers harsh, cutting remarks effortlessly, typically with a blank expression, before casually resuming her activities. Whenever Charlie Brown stumbles or fails, Lucy is swift to highlight his shortcomings.
Though Lucy frequently taunts, and berates Charlie Brown, she harbors a genuine affection for him, and their authentic friendship shines through in the Peanuts strip. In a storyline where Linus and Lucy’s family temporarily relocate, both Lucy and Charlie Brown share a deeply emotional farewell, revealing their bond. Occasionally, Charlie Brown outsmarts Lucy in certain strips. For example, in one instance, she scolds him for placing his hands in their shared popcorn bowl after licking his fingers, only for the final panel to depict him walking away as she sits stunned, the popcorn bowl upended on her head.
However, some early strips have hinted that Lucy could've have an innocent crush on Charlie Brown. For example, in the October 5, 1957, strip, Lucy casually tells Charlie Brown she could someday be the mother of his children. Similarly, in the June 8, 1960, strip, she muses that if he became President of the United States, she’d be an ideal First Lady. In the 1969 special A Boy Named Charlie Brown, Lucy compliments Charlie Brown, saying he looks cute surrounded by dandelions, prompting him to retort that he doesn’t want to be seen as cute.
In The Peanuts Movie, Charlie Brown seeks Lucy’s advice in approaching the Little Red-Haired Girl. Lucy displays no signs of jealousy and offers her typical brand of heavy-handed suggestions. She does become angry, however, when Charlie Brown comment that he’s made nervous by the Red-Haired Girl’s “pretty face” whereas he seems to have no similar difficulty with Lucy.
