Batman Zero Year Duke Thomas

Batman and Duke meeting for the first time.

Duke first met Batman as a kid when he was fishing and finds himself being attacked by criminals. Once Batman beat those criminals up, he gives Duke back his fish. Unknown to the two, their paths were set to cross again when the Thomas family found Batman in a comma and took him in. Around the time Gotham was under the control of the Riddler, and Duke was working on a riddle that the Riddler himself couldn't be able to solve, for the promise of freeing Gotham from him. Once Bruce woke up Duke filled him on what has been happening when he was asleep, before Bruce leave the Thomases he asks Duke to come with him, seeing potential in the young lad, but Duke turned him down. He wanted to work on the riddle as his part of freeing Gotham from Riddler, while Batman goes to face him in the way he knows how. When Joker returned and decided to force Batman to relive his family's murder, by using Duke and his parents. In the end Batman was only able to save Duke, while his parents vanished and believed to have been killed beside the rest of Joker's other victims. Batman placed Duke in the care of a Pennyworth, who then sends Duke to Lesley.

After Duke came to a Batman-less Gotham it began a series of events that led to Duke becoming part of the Batfamily. With Duke leading a group of youths who based themselves on the Robin legacy, to watch over Gotham in Batman's absence, and figuring out that Alfred was the Nest's leader. As Duke tells Alfred that he and his friends want to do more for Gotham. Some time after Batman returns, he has Duke meet him at his new base where he offers him the chance to join him. Becoming the Batfamily's most powerful ally, from being discovered to be a metahuman in the metal series, who goes by Signal.

When Duke's life as a vigilante was beginning, Bruce invites Duke to live in the manor with him and the rest of his family. The first chapter is of Duke moving in and gets welcomed by Bruce, who then leaves Duke with Alfred and Damian to show him around, until Bruce later finds Duke on his own in the garden. Bruce tells him that while Damian was joking about the purpose of the Dinosaur in the Batcave, he wasn't kidding about the security booby traps he has placed in the garden. Although they were off Bruce still advices Duke to be careful, before giving Duke a proper welcome to his new home. As Duke not only becomes part of Bruce's life, but also becomes a member of his family. Treating Duke like he is one of his wards.

Batwheels[]

Unlike the mainstream universe when Duke started out as a vigilante, the kids cartoon has a young Duke serving as Batman's Robin. Giving Duke his own set of wheels, like he and Batgirl does. Although Batman trusts Robin to drive his Red Bird car on his own, he does have Robin serve as a a co-driver when they are only using the Batmobile.

Because Duke is mostly limited to the comics and is one of the Batfamily's less known members, this friendship doesn't have that many supports. The Wayne Family Adventures web comics having Duke move in the manor and becomes excepted by the Young Bats as one of their own, some like to view Bruce as a father figure to Duke. With Duke's loving step father suffering from the affects of Joker toxion beside his mother, while his birth father was a villain who wanted Duke to join him.

Although Batwheels is the first animation to feature the two together, as a classic Batman and Robin duo, the limited interactions between them in the kids cartoon hasn't done much to boost support. With the show mostly being of their living vehicles than their human drivers.
