Okay, so we gonna talk about Bruno?

Brumilo is the family ship between Camilo Madrigal and Bruno Madrigal from the Encanto fandom.

Canon

Bruno and Camilo are uncle and nephew through Bruno's sister and Camilo's mother, Pepa. Although the two do not interact throughout the movie and their personalities contrast, Bruno and Camilo share several similarities. While Camilo is a master actor when shapeshifting into other people, Bruno wishes his power was acting. They both have a love of theatre but while Camilo prefers to have the spotlight on himself Bruno prefers to watch his rat friends perform.

The two also have a gift with enormous potential for social chaos. Bruno was never able to make his power fit in with society and instead comes of as creepy and difficult to understand. In contrast, Camilo uses his gift to entertain others and is in charge of welcoming people into the Casa Madrigal before Antonio's ceremony began. This is reflected in their dynamic with Pepa. Bruno tried to soothe Pepa with a joke but accidentally provoked her at her own wedding, whereas Camilo never plays pranks on Pepa and is exceedingly tender with her.

Even before moving into the walls of the house and leaving the family, Bruno had started keeping to himself due to his unwanted gift and had very little contact with his family. At the time that Bruno disappeared, Camilo was only five years old and because his uncle was reserved when he was still in the family, Camilo didn't really know anything about Bruno. Knowing very little about Bruno due to the fact that nobody liked to talk about him and that the family believed that he ruined his parents' wedding, the only thing Camilo had to be able to establish an idea of Bruno were the rumors that his relatives or the townspeople told him.

While it is unknown what Camilo thought of his long-lost uncle before and after he left, according to Jared Bush, being the only boy in family with magic in the Casa Madrigal for years wasn't easy for Camilo since he didn't have someone to turn to for advice, possibly indicating that Camilo wanted Bruno to be present in his life.

In the present, Camilo doesn't seem to have a high opinion of Bruno and enjoys dramatizing him as a creepy and evil monster, though given his prankster nature they are possibly not out of any truly malicious feeling towards him. Camilo is the only one of his siblings to not know or discover that his uncle Bruno was really hiding in the walls within Casa Madrigal for ten years. Using their gift; Dolores heard him regularly in all those years while Antonio, once he got his gift, was approached by the rats. Including his cousins, he is also the least informed about his uncle. Luisa, Dolores, and Isabela were old enough to at least know he is a good man, still calling him their uncle, showing him sympathy, and saying something positive about him. With the rats' intervention, Mirabel and Antonio, who respectively knew as much as and even less than Camilo, are able to meet and befriend their uncle and see his benevolent nature.

When he hears his parents sing about how they don't talk about Bruno in "We Don't Talk About Bruno", Camilo joins them after Dolores's verse. Having no real memories of his uncle not having seensince he was a small child, Camilo choose to dramatize Bruno as a boogeyman-like figure for fun. In his verses, characterizes Bruno as something of a cryptid; seven feet tall, rats riding on his back, capable of killing people by just saying their name, capable of seeing their dreams and feasting on their screams. During his part of the song, Camilo uses his power to turn into Bruno, depicting him as ghoulish version of himself with glowing green eyes, so that later it is the townspeople's turn to tell of the misfortunes that Bruno has brought with his gift.

During Mariano and Isabela's proposal dinner, he turns into Bruno again after hearing his sister whisper about Bruno's prophecy about Mirabel at the dinner table. Due to the shock of the news and it being combined with the thought of his tio was what caused Camilo to take his form.

During "All of You", Abuela Alma apologizes to the family for her mistakes and refines the miracle as simply themselves rather than the magic, also beckons a shy Bruno hiding behind the rubble of the Casa Madrigal to rejoin the family. While all the adults were absolutely overjoyed by Bruno's return and went to hug him, Camilo was the only person present confused by his sudden presence. Seeing Bruno for the first time in years, Camilo says that the family needs to talk about him to which Bruno agrees, which is the closest thing they had to one-on-one interaction in the movie. With Antonio needing to point out that the harmless-looking man is in fact Bruno, Camilo seems mildly disappointed. When Dolores bluntly tells him that she knew that Bruno never left, Camilo looks genuinely confused or upset by the secrecy.

The two then help their family and the town's people to rebuild their home. Once it was done and the Madrigals were getting ready to take a group photo of the reunited family, Casa Madrigal pushing them closer together caused Bruno and Camilo's faces to be placed closer to see one another. The look on Bruno's face subjects that he might have worried about possibly head butting him or was just checking to see who was being pushed into him. Since Casita was the one who sorting the placements for the photo.

• Bruno sees that the dying miracle has affected Camilo's shapeshifting ability, and knew that they were running out of time to save it.
• In the graphic novel, Bruno and Camilo are seen having a quiet conversation while working on the reconstruction of Casa Madrigal.
• In the book "Mystery in the Rainforest" it is shown that Camilo has changed his dramatization of Bruno to look more like the original.
• In "Mystery in the Rainforest", it is also the first time that Camilo refers to Bruno as Tío.
• In the book "Bruno's Other Gift", Bruno enjoys and praises Camilo's transformation as Abuela Alma.
• Also in "Bruno's Other Gift", Camilo tells Bruno that he also has acting talent after he saw the latter acting like Hernando.

People have connected that Camilo's depiction of Bruno isn't very far from the truth, as the movie does depict him using his powers as his eyes glowing a bright green. This led to theories that Bruno can't turn off his future vision, which in turn led to people thinking that something happened between Bruno and Camilo that made the latter scared of his own uncle. Those are usually very lighthearted, with Camilo catching his uncle in the house after he supposedly left, with him minding his own business raiding the fridge, only accidently to look at his nephew with glowing green eyes. This naturally scared Camilo for life, with Bruno often needing to flee the scene immediately to not get caught by one of the other Madrigals. This theory has been featured in a few aftermath fanfics, as Camilo and Bruno get to know one another probably, while calming Camilo's childhood trauma ghosts from when Bruno had accidentally scared him. Camilo being a prankster would also have him show Bruno his personal from of his tio as a scare joke, as that is the kind of thing that a prankster would do. Since Camilo had already took a short mocking form of his father, it wouldn't be far fetch if he were to do the same to Bruno.

Like with Mirabel, some people like to draw or write about Bruno spending time with Camilo as a child, before he left. The fanworks commonly have Bruno as a fun uncle to his nephew and nice. The idea has also been added to fanfics that take place after the film, as Bruno tells Camilo the times he spend playing with him and the other kids.

There's also the "Papa Bruno" AU, where one of the Madrigal grandkids, most commonly Mirabel and/or Camilo is Bruno's biological child instead of being his sisters' children. Though most people depict it as a full-on alternate timeline rather than being canon-compliant, even if Bruno had a wife to call their mother. Some work around this issue by saying that Bruno had gone into hiding before either could remember him, thus having Pepa and/or Julieta raise them as their own in his absence. People gravitate towards Camilo and Mirabel to be Bruno's children since all three of them have similar haircuts, a trait none of the other family members seem to share.

Even though Brumilo is mostly overshadowed by BruMira, people still feel drawn to them. Along with hoping that a future sequel film or follow-up TV series would give them one or two moments between the odd uncle and makeshiftng nephew. Like they did with Mirabel, Alma and Bruno's sisters. Another for this hope could possibly be due to people seeing both Camilo and Bruno as the ones who carried the comedy department in the film and felt that they should be credited for it.
