C Team is the poly ship between Junpei Tenmyouji, Akane Kurashiki, and Carlos from the Zero Escape fandom.
Canon[]
Akane and Junpei have been friends since they were children. They attended the same elementary school, but Akane moved away with her family when the pair were twelve. They reunite nine years later, when they are both "kidnapped" and forced to play the Nonary Game. It is eventually revealed that Akane is the mastermind behind the game, and that she has set everything into motion in a bid to save her younger self from dying within the game's incinerator. Akane and her brother escape from the game and Junpei and the other participants get into a van to try and follow them. However, they lose their trail.
Junpei refuses to let Akane go, and he decides to become a private detective. He spends the next year searching for any trace of Akane, which eventually leads him to the Mars Mission Test Site simulation. Carlos is another participant in the simulation, and this is where he first meets Junpei and Akane. After a few days, the Mars Mission simulation is co-opted by Zero II. All of the participants are put into a Decision Game, paired up in small groups. Junpei, Akane, and Carlos make up "C-Team".
Since Junpei is still angry and hurt by Akane's actions, the two can sometimes devolve into arguing with each other during the game. As such, Carlos plays the role of mediator between them.
Due to the branching nature of the Zero Escape games, a variety of situations can occur between the three characters. In one timeline, Carlos and Akane awaken to find that Junpei has been murdered and dismembered. Akane accuses Carlos, and Carlos tries to defend himself. The timeline can branch even further from there, with Carlos either killing himself from guilt or killing Akane in self-defense.
In another timeline, Carlos and Junpei work together, sacrificing their lives so that Akane can learn the passwords that they need to escape. Akane then jumps to a timeline in which Carlos and Junpei are still alive, and shares this information with them.
In the game's true ending, everyone escapes. Carlos becomes a close friend, almost like a brother, to Akane and Junpei. The three of them team up to try and stop the future Sigma and Phi have seen from unfolding.
Fanon[]
C Team is a popular pairing in the Zero Escape fandom. With Junepei being the fandom's most popular ship, many saw no issue with adding a third character into the relationship.
However, since ZTD is a bit of a divisive game and is strongly disliked by some fans there are those who refuse to give Carlos or this pairing any thought.
There are currently over 60 works for this ship on AO3. It is the fifth most popular ship in the fandom.
