CaitJay is the friendship between Caitlyn Kiramman and Jayce Talis from the League of Legends fandom.
Canon[]
Jayce and Caitlyn are childhood friends. The first time we see them together in Arcane is when both of them were heading to Jayce's lab, since her parents were his patrons. Before Jayce realizes his lab has been robbed, him and Caitlyn are coming there together, as she helps him with carrying some tools. After the Council realizes that he has been experimenting with magic, and decides to warn him against ever being near them, Caitlyn's parents regard him as a "misfit". Because of this, they prohibit Caitlyn from hanging out with him.
However, after his trial, he comes to visit Caitlyn's house and sees her waiting at the gate under the rain. Saddened, Caitlyn explains her parents don't want her to hang out with him any more. So Jayce asks her what she is doing there then. Caitlyn smiles and replies that she is a misfit as well. And her mom suddenly interrupts their conversation, telling her to come inside.
During Act 2, after the time skip, Caitlyn and Jayce are shown to still have a friendly relationship. During Progress Day celebrations, Caitlyn, now an Enforcer, is guarding around the city when Jayce comes behind her, trying to surprise her. However, Caitlyn finds him before this and grabs him by the arm jokingly. They talk a bit about Caitlyn's family forcing her to stay with them and not letting her see the real world, and Jayce tells her he'll be giving a big speech soon, and they still share some friendly teasing.
After Jinx's attack on Progress Day, Caitlyn, who was supposed to be resting after getting injured, is deeply focused on her research on the whole "The Great Conspiracy". At that moment, Jayce enters her room with some flowers for her. But Cailtlyn pays him no mind, quickly tossing the flowers on the floor and focusing back on telling Jayce all about her research. Since Jayce recently became a Counselor, and it's concerned for Caitlyn's safety, he offers her to be the guardian of The House of Talis, to which Caitlyn quickly refuses, since she says she already has a job. Mad at him for this, she tells Jayce to get out of her room.
Their friendship doesn't end due to this, however, as Caitlyn uses Jayce's position as a Counselor to get Vi out of prison. And when the Sheriff asks Jayce about this, he lies and tells him that it's all under control, knowing full well that he didn't authorize any of that.
Fanon[]
CaitJay is not a popular friendship within Arcane fandom due to the lack of scenes between each other. Their friendship is appreciated in the fandom nonetheless. In the few scenes they're seen together, they act like brother and sister, teasing each other and hitting each other in a friendly manner, which fans made so many memes about. Many fans of this friendship headcanon Jayce to be a wingman for Caitlyn and Vi, her love interest in the show, and fanfictions often portray this in AUs.
On AO3, CaitJayce is the fourth most written ship for Jayce and the fifth most written for Caitlyn. There are currently 190+ written works.
