Candford is the het ship between Candace Flynn and Buford Van Stomm in the Phineas and Ferb fandom.

Canon

Overview

Candace and Buford generally don't interact that much or have that strong of a relationship but they do know each other pretty well. They are on somewhat antagonistic terms with Candace viewing Buford as one of the cohorts to her pestilent little brothers and Buford just seeing Candace as the melodramatic buzzkill, who's always trying to spoil his fun. Usually, when they're together, they're competing against each other in some kind of menial fight. Candace has also regarded Buford as being smelly and gross, really just avoiding ever going near him. However, they have also exhibited friendly moments with each other, where Buford will do nice things to help Candace out, whenever she's in need. He usually does things like this out of the kindness of his own heart and doesn't expect anything in return, although he would welcome gratitude if she had any. Buford has strongly hinted a number of times that he actually has a bit of a precocious crush on Candace, outright stating a few times that he is very much in love with her. He hasn't acted on this really, probably since he's aware of the age difference and also Candace's relationship with Jeremy but that doesn't stop him from having mild feelings for her.

Season 1

LAWN GNOME BEACH PARTY OF TERROR

Candace witnessed the surfing competition between Phineas and Buford and saw how Buford tried (and failed) to cheat. During her recap to Linda, Candace described Buford's actions as "wily" and was actually glad to see him lose.

S'WINTER

Candace needed a lift to the top of S'winter mountain and managed to get help from Buford. Buford would serve as a reindeer and use a harness pull Candace up the mountain on a sled. After making it to the top, Candace thanked Buford by giving him a treat as the reward for his hard work.

GREECE LIGHTNING

Candace got caught in Buford's chariot during the chariot race and started screaming for her life. Annoyed, Buford picked her up and threw her off, demanding that she get her own chariot.

GOT GAME?

Buford faced off against Candace in The F-Games with himself being on The Boys Team and Candace being on The Girls Team. However, the war was mostly between Buford and Isabella, with Buford not really paying too much mind to Candace. However, he did laugh when the watermelon destroyed her helmet.

Season 2

CHEZ PLATYPUS

Buford refused to let Candace and Jeremy enter Chez Platypus because they didn't have reservations. Candace screamed and yelled at Buford, demanding he let her and her date in but he wouldn't budge. Buford also kind of mocked Candace by letting in other couples, many of which were complete strangers, while Candace stood out in the yard, stomping with rage and making a fool of herself in front of Jeremy. After the restaurant was acquired by Phil and taken away, Buford served as the waiter for Candace and Jeremy on their less glamorous date in the empty backyard.

LET'S TAKE A QUIZ

Candace tried to get on the game show, "Let's Take a Quiz", where Buford and Baljeet were already occupying the two spaces. She told one of them to get off the stage and Buford threw Baljeet off the stage, . The two of them could very competitive and tried to upstage each other in the guessing game, even though Candace had absolutely no idea how the game worked.

THE BULLY CODE

Candace nearly died on Phineas and Ferb's fawlty obstacle course but Buford saved her, catching her in his arms. Buford stated that in accordance with "The Bully Code", Candace was indebted to him and needed to work as his personal butler. Candace scoffed at this concept in disgust and left him high and dry. Buford was mad at Candace for not conforming to his made-up rules, believing his personal views to be universal law.

PHINEAS AND FERB CHRISTMAS VACATION

When delivering presents to everyone in Danville, Candace saw that Buford was still labeled as "naughty" despite his efforts to redeem himself at the last minute.

THE LEMONADE STAND

Candace broke up with Stacy and looked through her phone for other friends she could hang out with instead. When scrolling through her contacts, she was shocked and disgusted to find Buford Van Stomm, wondering how he even got in her contacts. Later on, she went to one of the locations for Phineas and Ferb's lemonade restaurants, where Buford was working as a bartender. Buford noticed that Candace was upset about losing her best friend and told her a story of a time when a similar thing happened to him. He brought up the tale of losing his pet goldfish, Biff in the ocean (from the events of "Voyage to the Bottom of Buford"), hoping that this story would make her feel better, as she'd realize she's in the same boat as him. Candace would eventually get an idea on how to make things up to Stacy and run off in the middle of Buford's story, angering him.

WIZARD OF ODD

Buford and Baljeet gave Candace a fright when they showed up at her window, while washing the house. Buford told Candace that in a metaphysical sense, he doesn't want anything from life. Although Candace would disregard this as something she doesn't care about, she would end up remembering this later on. Buford asked Candace if she wanted to help him and Baljeet clean the house and she declined, demanding them to get out of her sight. Candace took a nap later and had a dream, where Buford was incorporated into her dream as a Ligerbear. Buford's desire for nothing was manifested into her dream as the Ligerbear sang a whole song about how he wanted nothing, which Candace could not have cared any less about. Buford would join Candace, however, on the rest of her journey to Bustopolis and help her fight off Doofenwarlock's flying squirrels.

Season 3

MONSTER FROM THE ID

Candace needed Phineas, Ferb, and Baljeet to transport themselves inside of her mind so they could help her retrieve a memory of Jeremy's lost gift. Without telling anyone, Buford transported himself into Candace's mind and noted that she was really messed up, upon witnessing her waterfalls of anxiety. Candace nagged him to get out of her mind, especially if he was going to be eating a sandwich, tracking crumbs all over her head. Buford refused to get out since it was a free country and later gave Isabella and The Fireside Girls a tour of Candace's mind. At the end of the episode, Buford was the only person who didn't leave Candace's head, due to him falling in love with her id and going on a date with her.

DOOFAPUS

Buford has a life-sized mold of Candace, which really creeped her out. However, nobody else thought that this was weird since Buford has life-sized molds of all his friends. This implies that Buford considers Candace a friend. Buford also used this mold to turn a liquefied Candace back into her normal self.

Season 4

BULLY BUST

Candace was awoken early in the morning from the noises of Buford tying his shoes with his new TUFF SHOO LAYSIZ in the backyard. Candace rummaged downstairs to ask Buford why he was over so early and Buford sang her an entire musical number about how Van Stomms always show up early, as is family tradition. Candace told Buford that she needed to get some extra sleep so that she could bust her brothers today and Buford insisted that she needed a hobby, especially since busting her brothers is such an easy task. Candace retorted that busting her brothers was not easy and challenged him to try busting them, himself. Buford took her up on that challenge and took many extra precautions to make sure Phineas and Ferb's tooth-themed rollercoaster did not disappear before Linda got back home by dead-bolting it to the ground and cementing it in place. Buford later went to ride the rollercoaster himself but Candace pulled him aside and told him that he wasn't even close to protecting this device from disappearing. She listed off several things that could make the tooth rollercoaster disappear, such as airplanes flying by and snagging it, shrinking down and getting lost, turning into ice and melting, or turning into a giant Ducky Momo and flying away. Buford had to go out of his way to protect the tooth rollercoaster even more. Candace ended up being pretty impressed with just how much work Buford was doing, even going as far as to spray it with space harpy-repellent. However, Buford did not account for green laser beams from the sky. A bunch of laser beams would zap the ride but Buford blocked them all by throwing conveniently placed objects at them. Every single laser would made the object float all the way into outer space. He eventually ran out of those and had to sacrifice himself, but when he floated up into the skies, his TUFF SHOO LAYSIZ got caught on the machine and pulled it up into the skies. Buford untied his shoes and the tooth rollercoaster just fell into the desert, disappearing once again. When Buford returned, Candace was mad at him for failing his task and Buford tried to explain his mishap in the form of another song, which annoyed Candace instantly and had her storming off in defeat.

KNOT MY PROBLEM

Buford watched Candace consume an entire knotted-ball of licorice in absolute astonishment. He was so awestruck, that he let it slip that he was in love with her. Baljeet questioned this and Buford redacted his statement, pretending he didn't say anything. Buford would later come up to Candace and help her open a safe that Jeremy gave her, by busting it against his forehead and breaking it open.

Movies

ACROSS THE SECOND DIMENSION

Although Buford and Candace didn't have too much strong interactions in this movie, their second dimension counterparts did. 2nd Dimension Buford watched 2nd Dimenson Candace fight off a horde of evil robots in awe. He noted that he was so in love with her, similar to how 1st Dimension Buford did in "Knot My Problem".

CANDACE AGAINST THE UNIVERSE

Buford helped the rest of the backyard gang go to Feebla-oot to save Candace. Buford let it slip that he finds Candace enchanting. He'd immediately backtrack and say that he really finds her terrifying, though it's not likely he truly believed that.

Fanon

Candford is a rarepair that mostly exists due to Buford's semi-recurring gag of being in love with Candace. They both have a shared rivalry with Phineas and Ferb, with Buford bullying them and Candace trying to bust them. Besides rivaling ships, the main thing argument against this ship is the age difference, even though that didn't stop Ferbnessa shippers. Many can justify this ship by having fanfictions about them take place in the future, when they're adults. That way the age gap won't matter so much. It has 2 stories on AO3. The biggest rival ships to this are Bujeet and Canderemy.
