Captain N Reunion is the friendship between Pit, Mega Man, and Simon Belmont from the Super Smash Bros. fandom.
Canon[]
Captain N: The Game Master[]
Simon, Mega Man and "Kid Icarus" are all main characters in this show. They are parts of the "N Team", a group of heroes from different games across "Videoland", which is a setting where seemingly all video games playable on the latest Nintendo console coexist. Upon the arrival of protagonist Kevin Keene, a kid transported to Videoland from the real world, none of them have any faith in Kevin, who is prophesied to become the legendary Captain N one day. But after Princess Lana, another original character based on various video game princesses, is captured by Mother Brain, the four of them put their differences aside to save her and become friends.
Simon, Mega Man and Kid Icarus all seem dislike each other, frequently arguing with and annoying each other. However Kid Icarus seems to have a lot of faith in Mega Man, as he claims that he trusts Kevin if Mega Man trusts him. He also seems to have a unique relationship with Simon, calling him "Simonius" and being able to work with him when the two of them are separated from the group.
All three of them are also have unique quirks given to them in the series, which look extremely inaccurate to the modern eye. Simon's only common trait with his video game counterpart is his blonde hair and whip, he otherwise resembles a 1920's adventurer with a mullet and has a vain "wannabe-casanova" personality. Pit is referred to as "Kid Icarus" and has the verbal tic of adding "-icus" to random nouns. Mega Man is the farthest from the original: for some reason, the Blue Bomber is colored green, has a raspy voice and often adds the prefix "Mega" to random words.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
Pit is established to be a fan of the Mega Man series, alongside Palutena and Viridi. He also recognizes Simon in Palutena's Guidance and is very happy to see him. When Palutena asks how Pit knows him, he merely mentions that they "hit the scene" around the same time.
Fanon[]
Making Captain N jokes was sometimes cited as one of the main reasons why people were hyped for Simon's inclusion in Ultimate, long before he was actually confirmed. However, many expected a modern design to make it in, rather than a classic one.
Though many depicted Simon as being somewhat awkward around Pit and Mega Man, others love the idea of him wholeheartedly embracing them, calling them "his friends". Many also have them comment on how accurate their portrayals are, both to mock the original cartoon and to appreciate that now there's a crossover involving them that does them justice. It's a general headcanon that the Smash cast remember their non-canon appearances as something of a hazy dream. A number of artists also include Link and Zelda to comment on the times where they had crossovers with Captain N.
Some have taken it full circle and recreated Team N in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: In addition to the Trio, they also have Palutena in pink alternate costume stand in for Princess Lana, the Duck Hunt Dog in his "Dalmatian" alt stand in for Kevin's dog Duke and a Mii Fighter based on Kevin himself. Some go even further and argue that the fan-created stand-ins are the actual Kevin, Lana, and Duke as Spirits. Others point out that Kevin could actually be in Smash already; his most iconic weapon is the NES Zapper, which is also the weapon of the off-screen hunter for Duck Hunt, who appears in the Duck Hunt reveal trailer as the hand holding the Zapper.
