Carlogram is the slash ship between Major Monogram and Carl Karl from the Phineas and Ferb fandom.
Canon[]
Overview[]
Major Francis Monogram and Carl Karl are co-workers at O.W.C.A., with Carl working as Monogram's unpaid intern. Carl works at O.W.C.A. because he thinks that it would look really good on his resume when he applies for a good college after summer ends. For his job, Carl helps Francis with briefing Perry on what Doofenshmirtz is up to. Major Monogram gives Perry the information on a screen and Carl works as the cameraman and does technical stuff to make some graphics show up on screen. Carl will also show up on screen, himself and interject during Monogram's briefings. As the series progressed, Carl would be more involved with Monogram's work to the point where he basically became the man's sidekick.
Season 1[]
In "It's About Time!", Major Monogram was frozen thanks to Doofenshmirtz's Freezeinator and he could not give Perry his mission for the day. Carl had to awkwardly come in and introduce himself to Perry, telling him that Monogram had been stuck like this all day, accidentally tipping him over in the process. Carl told Perry that if Monogram could talk he would probably tell him that Doofenshmirtz was up to no good and that he needed him to go and put a stop to it.
In "Unfair Science Fair: Redux", Doofenshmirtz and Perry went shopping together, where they ran into Francis and Carl at the same store. Francis was pushing the cart and Carl was in the seat like a little baby. This was incredibly awkward for the both of them and they all just left and went their separate ways.
Season 2[]
In "Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation!", Major Monogram and Carl got gifts for each other for Christmas. Carl got Monogram a framed photo of them happily standing together and Monogram got Carl a framed photo of himself looking sternly at the camera. Monogram's photo wasn't even explicitly autographed to him, it just said "To whom it may concern, Merry Xmas. - Major Monogram".
In "Undercover Carl", Major Monogram assigned Car to go out and thwart Phineas and Ferb's alleged plans to help Doofenshmirtz destroy the Tri-State Area. Carl went in disguise as a kid and played with Phineas and Ferb to use their Anti-Gravity Fun Launcher. At the end of the day, Monogram would discover that this was a false alarm and came to the backyard in disguise as a father, bringing Carl back home for taco Tuesday and none of the Backyard Gang was any the wiser.
In "Hip Hip Parade!", Major Monogram forgot to get Carl a gift for "Passive-Aggressive Relationship Day". Monogram was sorry about forgetting but Carl told him, "No, no, it's okay. You probably weren't gunna get me anything anyway."
Season 3[]
In "Excaliferb", Monogram was home sick and Carl came on down to his house to keep him company by reading him a medieval story about some boys who went seeking a sword in a battle against an evil king. Monogram ended up liking the story so much that he asked Carl to come back to his house tomorrow and do this again. Carl declined saying that they kind of have to work tomorrow, much to Monogram's disappointment.
In "Minor Monogram", Francis told Carl that he was "like the son he never had", because he was so unlike the son he did have, Monty Monogram. However, Monogram would soon be disappointed with his son for wanting to pursue a career in fighting evil for O.W.C.A. instead of acrobatics, like Francis wanted for him. Carl volunteered to become an acrobat in place of Monty so that he could get some fatherly approval from Major Monogram. Major Monogram obliged with this and started swinging around from a trapeze and throwing Carl around like this was some kind of a circus.
In "Where's Perry?", Carl got zapped with Doofenshmirtz's Ultimate Evil-Inator, which, as the name implies, turned him evil. As a villain, Carl would rebel against Major Monogram and trap him in a cage. Carl told Monogram that he's sick of being abused by him and now plans to seize control over O.W.C.A. for himself and take over the tri-state area by stealing Doofenshmirtz's inators and using them for himself. Since none of Doof's inators were of any use, Carl just takes the robot versions of The Flynn-Fletcher Family from O.W.C.A. to go down to Tanzania and destroy Perry the Platypus. As Carl left, he referred to Monogram as "Monograndpa", which Doofenshmirtz thought was pretty funny. Major Monogram broke out of jail with the help of Doofenshmirtz and they took Monogram's private jet down to Tanzania to stop Carl. In Africa, Doofenshmirtz rebuilds his Ultimate Evil-Inator to reverse Carl's villainy and uses the mustache of Monogram's robot clone to complete it. After Carl returns to normal, Major Monogram apologizes to him for taking him for granted and promotes him to the status of "paid intern", although he specifies that this is just a title and he's still not getting paid.
Season 4[]
In "Thanks But No Thanks", Carl asks Monty to convince Major Monogram to disown him and adopt him as his son instead. After some reasonable prying from Monty, Carl revealed that what he really wanted was for Major Monogram to thank him for all the hard work he does, which he never does. Monty took Carl and Francis out for a little date at Alfonso's fancy restaurant, where Francis completely averted thanking Carl for anything but still thanked Monty, Alfonso, and even the bathroom attendant, which just made Carl feel even more snubbed. Finally, Carl saved Francis' life by tackling him when he was about to get crushed by a giant grand piano and all Francis did was yell at Carl for not saving the food as well. Monty finally just called his dad out for this, telling him that he needs to thank Carl. Francis finally thanked Carl and Carl was so overjoyed with this gratitude, that he fainted.
In "Father's Day", Carl gave Major Monogram a present for Father's Day.
In "Last Day of Summer", Major Monogram had to prepare for Carl leaving for college and get accustomed to briefing Perry about Doofenshmirtz without Carl using the graphics. Major Monogram struggled to pull up a bunch of printed-out photos and drawings for visual assistance by pulling a bunch of ropes. Francis would eventually just break down crying since he couldn't survive without Carl. On the bright side, this at least meant that Carl finally got his credit for working at O.W.C.A. and was going to college.
Milo Murphy's Law[]
Even though Carl had gone off to college for the fall, he would apparently take some time to return to O.W.C.A. during the winter, as he would be seen working with Major Monogram once again in such episodes as "The Ticking Clock", "Sick Day", and "The Dog Who Knew Too Much".
Fanon[]
Some fans ship Carl with Monogram because they detect some ho-yay subtext between their conversations. The humorous banter and old-married-cpuple-style arguments they have is quite charming. Carl's constant corrections of what Monogram says tend to irritate Monogram, which is kind of funny. Monogram also tends to be kind of mean to Carl, putting him down a lot and denying him, which is also kind of funny. Also, since Monogram and Carl are rarely seen with any other characters, mostly just being two faces on a screen during some very self-confined scenes, there's not a lot of other people they interact with, making it difficult for other ships involving them to exist.
One of the main issues that detractors take with this ship is the age difference. Although Carl is estimated to be at least 18-19 years old, with him being a high school graduate during the events of the series, some fans just aren't ready to accept a May-December romance of this vast of a distance.
Alternatives to this ship can range from friend ships to family ships. The family ships generally have Monogram adopting Carl as a son and being his official dad. The family ship is especially common among shippers, who have taken notice the semi-running gag of Carl treating Monogram like his dad, as seen in episodes like "Unfair Science Fair: Redux", "The Beak", "Undercover Carl", "Minor Monogram", "Thanks But No Thanks", and "Father's Day". This ship is often paired with Major Monogram's real son, Monty Monogram, who can shift up the dynamic in an interesting way.
Rival ships include but are not limited to; Montarl and Doofogram.
Carlogram has 4 works on AO3.
