Chabataka is the het ship between Kiyotaka Ishimaru and Tenko Chabashira from the Danganronpa fandom.
Canon[]
Kiyotaka is a character in Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc, and Tenko is a character from Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. As such, the characters do not share a "canon" and do not interact. Additionally, both of the characters are canonically deceased. As they come from different games in the franchise, they would be considered a crossover ship, or a cross-game ship. In the world of Danganronpa V3, Kiyotaka is a fictional character so he and Tenko could never truly meet.
In the non-canonical Ultimate Talent Development Plan they share one interaction. In it, Tenko keeps watch at the school festival's entrance, and encounters Kiyotaka. Tenko confronts him about having ulterior motives, which Kiyotaka denies, citing his membership of the public morals committee. Tenko begins to get flustered, and states that she believes he doesn't have any poor motives, but also refuses to accept him because he is male. Kiyotaka breaks down and cries about how it is impossible for him to change that. When Tenko suggests he work to become a girl instead, Kiyotaka breaks down even further.
They interact again in the non-canonical Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp, seemingly following up from their UTDP interaction. This time, Tenko seems to be more sympathetic to Kiyotaka. When he tells her that people can't change how their born, Tenko agrees. However, she follows this up by telling Kiyotaka that he should learn Neo-Aikido to become a better male. She says that she needs to work on the difference between degenerate males, and the males that she can recruit. Kiyotaka, however, is not persuaded and does not join her.
Both characters have very strict moral codes imposed on them from someone they look up to. For Kiyotaka, it is his motivation to restore his family's name after his grandfather's scandal, sacrificing hobbies in his pursuit of redemption. Tenko meanwhile has no such tragedy, instead taking her aikido master's joke about hating men too seriously, and building her life around it. Even though Tenko is very much a misandrist at surface level, she is willing to accept men as good people, as shown with how she treats Shuichi Saihara in game. She promotes expressionism, which parallels Kiyotaka's belief in effort.
Fanon[]
Due to several factors, such as Tenko's distrust in men, and the fact that originate from different games, this is not widely shipped. Chabataka is controversial due to both characters being commonly read as "gay-coded", with two other ships, Ishimondo and Tenmiko, remaining much more popular. People who do ship this believe that Kiyotaka's rule-abiding nature could shift Tenko's misandrist view of men, and possibly allow them to become good friends or more.
There are currently 3 works for this ship on AO3.
