Charfalda is the het ship between Charlie Brown and Mafalda from the Peanuts and Mafalda fandoms.
Canon[]
Mafalda and Charlie Brown never met in person canonically, although Mafalda has been seen reading The Peanuts comics Multiple Times. And in the Official book of TODA MAFALDA there is an artwork where Mafalda is Surprised to see Charlie Brown with her own eyes.
Curiously, the creation of Mafalda is inspired by Charlie Brown. During the golden age of Peanuts, an Argentine brand called Mansfield Minera SA contacted the creator of Mafalda (Quino) to create some characters (Susanita, Miguelito too) similar to Charlie Brown that served to promote Argentine appliances. Although nothing more was ever heard from Mansfield, assuming the promotions were a failure. But Quino decided to take the characters he created for the promotions and gave him his own comics, personality, names and different charisma from Peanuts.
Even the creator of Peanuts (Charles M. Schulz) dedicated some good words to the Quino.[1]
Fanon[]
Many people often compare Mafalda and Charlie Brown due to many similarities in their comics such as:
- Having similar art styles.
- Teaching good manners.
- Talking about the problems of the society, in the case of Mafalda: the politicians, the wars, the corruption of the Argentine dictatorship in the 1976, and her very great obsession with the world being a better place.
- Marking multiple generations.
- Being very popular in their country of origin: Mafalda in Latin American countries like Argentina, and Charlie Brown in English-speaking countries like the United States.
Even with all these comparisons, the personality of Mafalda and Charlie Brown are completely opposite of each other. Mafalda's personality is very insightful, direct, rebellious, non-conformist and very passive most of the time. While Charlie Brown's personality is someone who is very shy, fearful, anxious, lacks confidence, and is quite depressed most of the time.
And according to some people, Mafalda could be a great emotional support for the lovable loser called Charlie Brown, helping him to deal with all of his problems and his bullies, especially Lucy.[2]
Apart from comparing both series, the fans of both series also made several fanarts of Mafalda and Charlie Brown doing crossovers together. In them, they get to know each other more, they talk very often, and walk and share moments together.
Both are national icons and their comics are very famous throughout the world, so it may be one of the main reasons why people ship them. However, fanfiction between them are rare, at least on the English side of the Mafalda fandom.
